Hatchasaurus was a bird/dinosaur/mountain themed monster who served as the main antagonist of the episode "Birds of a Feather" as well as the main antagonist of the second part of the three part episode "The Ninja Encounter".
History
The Hatchasaurus is initially within an egg and Goldar mentions that this monster once defeated the Dragonzord though he does not leave the Rangers any chances.
A few days later, the Hatchasaurus hatches and attacks the countryside near the Angel Grove Power Plant which he swiftly attacks. Hatchasaurus possesses a magical speaking computer heart called Cardiatron who is able to re-assemble and enhance the monster after every time that he is destroyed. He encounters the Rangers but is quickly overpowered by the Dragonzord, taken down by the combined firepower of the Sabertooth Tiger, Triceratops, and Pterodactyl Dinozords, and is destroyed by the Tyrannosaurus Dinozord's mist breath which makes him face-plant and explode.
However, Cardiatron brings him back so they form the Megazord. Hatchasaurus easily wipes the floor with the Megazord and the Dragonzord had been rendered useless by Rita. Eventually however, Jason breaks into the monster via his mouth and activates his Dragon Shield, playing the Dragon Dagger which allows the Dragonzord to break free with a boost of energy. Now free from Rita's spell, the Dragonzord takes down the monster with a strike to the chest with its tail at which point Jason and Cardiatron are thrown clear.
With their comrade safe, the others summon the Power Sword and again destroy the monster with an energized slash, this time by vaporization. However, he is again resurrected into his third and most powerful form and beats them senseless. Unfortunately for Hatchasaurus, and despite Cardiatron's attempts to destroy him, Jason is unfazed by all attacks used on him and he uses the Power Sword and Dragon Dagger to destroy Cardiatron. With the monster now crippled and with no way to reform, Jason calls for Titanus and they form the Ultrazord which finishes off Hatchasaurus who is knocked flat on his back and explodes whilst blue lightning spews from him. TV STORY-Birds of a Feather
Around a year later, Hatchasaurus is resurrected by Terror Blossom to distract the Power Rangers whilst he plants seeds to bud into new versions of himself. This time around, he possesses the capability to speak and is initially human sized instead of being giant by default. Like the first time, the Rangers have to destroy Cardiatron, before they could destroy the monster completely. Tommy demands to know where Terror Blossom is but he refuses to answer and summons Putties which are quickly defeated and Tommy takes him down with a spinning jump kick to the gut. Deciding to stop playing around, Lord Zedd throws a Growth Bomb which Hatchasaurus catches and declares that he shall change the game they are playing before using it and enlarging.
He decides that today is a good day to demolish Angel Grove which forces the Power Rangers to summon the Thunder Megazord and White Tigerzord. Despite what he just said, Hatchasaurus emerges from underground in the countryside only to be taken down by a punch from the White Tigerzord and destroyed by the Thunder Megazord's mist attack. Lord Zedd laments the defeat although it has distracted the Power Rangers but Cardiatron has survived the destruction of Hatchasaurus and quickly starts to reassemble the monster.
Zordon tells the Power Rangers to destroy Cardiatron to prevent Hatchasaurus from returning but Zedd realizes that it is still alive and blasts it with his lightning, allowing the heart to reassemble the monster much faster so the Rangers are forced to deploy in the Zords again. The second time around, Hatchasaurus is revived in the city itself, apparently in his ultimate form, and starts smashing buildings,
The Thunder Megazord and White Tigerzord soon arrive with the former advancing first but he bashes it back with his shell only to be punched to the ground. However, he easily recovers as the Thunder Megazord advances and generates large bullet spewing warts which surprises the Thunder Megazord enough to stop advancing and Hatchasaurus then bombards it with energy bullets. When the White Tigerzord tries to get involved, it too is knocked around by the blasts and both Megazords soon go down. They very quickly recover so Hatchasaurus fires more blasts only for the Thunder Megazord to march straight through the explosions so Hatchasaurus charges. To defend itself, the Thunder Megazord draws its Thunder Saber but Hatchasaurus was unimpressed and blasted the weapon out of its hands.
After Goldar prevents Rocky, Aisha and Adam from escaping after Aisha picked their padlock, the Power Rangers regroup and strategize again. As Hatchasaurus charges to finish them off, the Thunder Megazord tears the Thunder Saber out of the ground and energizes it. They then energy slash him which Hatchasaurus survives but apparently destroys Cardiatron inside of Hatchasaurus. He is enraged and charges, now back in his third form, but the slash has weakened him enough to be taken out once and for all by a single White Tiger Thunderbolt As happened the first time, Hatchasaurus is knocked flat on his back and explodes whilst blue lightning spews from him. Although he never returned to fight the Rangers again, Hatchasaurus is later seen in the Shadow World and was amongst those who attacked Queen Bansheera after Diabolico pushed her in. TV STORY-The Fate of Lightspeed
Personality
The Hatchasaurus was a highly headstrong and arrogant monster with a insatiable thirst for destruction. The Hatchasaurus was initially a mindless and feral monsters who spoke only in groans and roars. After being resurrected, the Hatchasaurus could talk and was much more intelligent and cunning although he was ruthless and became mindlessly angry once Cardiatron was destroyed again. The Hatchasaurus was above all highly faithful to both Rita and Zedd.
Forms
Powers and Abilities
Powers
- Power: The Hatchasaurus was the most powerful monster of all Season 1, being able to literally pick up and throw the Megazord like it was nothing, hold its own against the Dragonzord, survive multiple finishing moves and always come back, get increasingly stronger with each defeat, could adapt to the Rangers strategies and requiring the strongest formation they had up to that point to defeat it. Even the Thunderzords in Season 2 were unable to defeat him without extensive effort on their part. However, later monsters like Nimrod, Goldgoyle, and Tankenstein surpassed him in terms of pure power.
- Horn Blasts: The reformed Hatchasaurus could fire yellow lightning from his horns strong enough to knock back the original Megazord and force the Thunder Megazord to lose its Thunder Saber.
- Shoulder Volcano Summoning: After being resurrected, the Hatchasaurus could summon wart like protrusions from his arms in a swirl of green energy which could then fire a barrage of sparks with enough power to take down the Thunder Megazord and White Tigerzord with a single volley.
- Z-Putty Summoning: When resurrected by the Terror Blossom, the Hatchasaurus was able to summon a batch of Z-Putties to aid him in distracting the Power Rangers from finding the monster.
Abilities
- Strength: The Hatchasaurus possessed enormous physical strength, being able to lift the Megazord clean off of its feet and into the air and smash a building or pieces with just two swings of his his bare hands.
- Durability: The Hatchasaurus was able to take the Sabertooth Tiger and Triceratops Dinozords' tail blasts and the Pterodactyl Dinozord's lightning and only be knocked down momentarily. The Hatchasaurus' most impressive display of durability however was him being able to survive the Thunder Megazord's energized Thunder Saber (although this did severely weaken him and seemed to destroy Cardiatron).
- Stamina: The Hatchasaurus had superhuman stamina, being able to hold off both the Dragonzord and original Megazord and later the Thunder Megazord and White Tigerzord for long periods of time without fatigue.
- Speed: The Hatchasaurus possessed impressive speed, being able to ram his shell into the Megazord with incredible speed whilst also giving it enough power to knock back the formation.
- Agility: The Hatchasaurus also possessed superhuman agility, being able to spin around and slam both the original and Thunder Megazords with his shell easily, each on separate occasions.
- Burrowing: The Hatchasaurus emerged from the ground with relative ease both when hatching and later when confronted by the Megazord and Thunder Megazord.
Weaknesses
- Finishers: Despite his reformative abilities, the Hatchasaurus was able to easily be dispatched by finishing attacks though he would still reform.
- Cardiatron: The Hatchasaurus was completely reliant upon his mechanical heart to reform him. Without it, he could easily be dispatched.
Arsenal
- Claws: Although lacking in conventional weapons, the Hatchasaurus had massive hands with each finger possessing razor sharp claws to maul his enemies with.
- Beak: Being based upon a bird, the Hatchasaurus had a large yellow beak that he used to brutally peck the Megazord in the neck whilst he pinned it down.
