The Green Crystal was a crucial plot device in the two part episode "Green No More" and was responsible for the end of Tommy Oliver's tenure as the Mighty Morphin Green Ranger.
History[]
The Green Crystal was retrieved by Goldar under orders by Lord Zedd who used it as his final and most successful attempt to steal Tommy's powers once and for all. Zedd decided to use it after he saw five punk teens (Justin, Zane, Bobby, Tina and Kristen) harassing a kid named Stewart as well as Tommy, Billy, and Zack and decided to make them his Dark Rangers to attack and destroy the Power Rangers. To do this, he decided to use the Green Crystal to take Tommy's powers to some personal use and use it to corrupt and empower the teens.
Shortly after the Rangers were defeated in a Zord battle by the TurbanShell monster, Zedd kidnapped Tommy and teleported him into a wheat field that was in the Otherworld. Turbanshell confronted him there and, with Tommy's weakening powers, he was easily able to absorb his remaining powers into his shell. Zedd held up the Green Crystal which absorbed his remaining powers and began his next steps. With the Green Crystal fully charged, Zedd used it to surround the Command Center in a crushing forcefield which would slowly close in and crush the building and captured the remaining Power Rangers. He then introduced them to his newly powered Dark Rangers and revealed that he wished to use them to conquer the Earth.
However, Tommy eventually managed to steal Goldar's time device and a message to his past self to bring his Communicator along. His past self did this so he used his Communicator to teleport back to Earth and find that the Green Crystal needed to be destroyed to right things. To this end, he teleported back to the Otherworld where Zedd had (apparently) gained control of the Thunderzords and planned to have the Dark Rangers pilot them and destroy Angel Grove. However, Tommy grabbed the Green Crystal and smashed it over a rock to Zedd's horror and then made his swift getaway. This both restored enough of his powers to help his friends destroy TurbanShell and freed the Dark Rangers who were immediately teleported back to Angel Grove.
However, this temporary restoration of power wasn't enough and Tommy lost his powers for good shortly thereafter until he eventually became the White Ranger.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Power Absorption: Similarly to the Green Candle, the Green Crystal could steal Tommy's powers and drain them into it.
- Power Bestowment: The Green Crystal could then bestow five teenagers to turn them into the Dark Rangers.
- Forcefield Generation: When fully powered, the Green Crystal could generate a forcefield around the Command Center that prevented anyone from teleporting in or out of it.
- Destruction: Said forcefield could then close in and crush the Command Center.
Notes[]
- The Green Crystal was a US exclusive element that never appeared in Zyuranger, Zyu2, or Dairanger.
- In fact, the only Zyu2 elements present in "Green No More" were TurbanShell's Zord fights.
