Glove Grumer (グローブグルマー Gurōbu Gurumā) is a Baseball Glove-Themed Kurumaju from the Great Space Invasion Running Team Hashiriyan.
History
The Sanseater Trio are watching Jyo's little league team practice and Yaiyai thinks it looks fun and wants to play, which gives Itasha an idea as she puts her Ignition Key into a baseball glove to create Glove Grumer. Glove approaches the field and uses his Professional Initiation Beam on the kids to demoralize them from wanting to play as the beam hits them with the harsh reality about competition and breaks their will, which allows Glove to easily extract Ghassolin from the kids. Coach Akuse is outraged that the Grumer would harm the children and Taiya, already transformed into Bun Red, kicks the barbaric baseball glove back while Ishiro and Mira try to motivate the kids to escape. Despite Genba and Ishiro stepping in to help Taiya, Jyo stops the fight and makes a challenge to the Hashiriyans.. to compete in a baseball game! The team is dumbfounded by the statement but Jyo says he cannot abide by having evil use the sport he loves so in such a dishonorable way and wants to beat the villains in a real game of baseball. Glove accepts and the Trio are interested in playing too, also agreeing to the challenge.
As the game starts, The game’s first inning starts with Decotorade up at bat, hitting the ball after making a pun about a giant squid being called a “crack-en” and making it to first base because Mira fumbled grabbing the ball. She apologizes to Jyo but being a good sportsman, he says it is fine as it is important to work as a team to make up for anyone’s mistakes. Glove substitutes the upcoming player for Yaiyai, who Itasha says is their pinch runner for Decotorade to advance a bit further.
Yaiyai runs before the pitch is thrown and races to a home run and then cheats by running the bases again to score a second time, the Boonboomgers call out the play but Coach Cannonborg says that they are playing by Hashiriyan rules which stipulate that players run the bases as many times as possible until they are out. He compares this to how if a car crosses the street before a person does then the person does not have the right of way. Unable to tag Yaiyai until Taiya throws to Genba, the Boonboomgers trail 8 to 0 in the first. Itasha and Decotorade argue with the Nejiretta Umpire that Yaiyai was safe and not out but the Umpire sticks to his call. Coach Cannonborg makes a mental note to modify the Umpire later and Glove comes up to bat, Jyo psychs himself up by saying not to let the pressure get to him and throws a fastball. Glove hits it hard back at Jyo who gets hit in the face with the ball and sent flying into the wall beneath the scoreboard. Though Bun Bun catches the ball, the team stops playing when they see Jyo is hurt and blacked out.
By the time Jyo wakes up, it is the ninth inning and the Boonboomgers are being decimated by 118 to 0, Jyo is shocked and in disbelief by this and thinks he is just having a bad dream. He sees the Hashiriyans celebrating what seems to be a sure fire victory and his team exhausted in the summer heat yet still trying their best.
Jyo goes to the coach’s box to ask what happened while he was out cold, with Mira timidly saying that the team was uncoordinated without him and Glove’s hitting and pitching were on another level and that gave the Hashiriyans the advantage. They also did a fair amount of cheating such as changing the rules about hit by pitches being counted as strikes and manipulating the movement of the ball so nobody could hit it and everyone would get struck out. Genba compares the line of zeroes on the scoreboard to takoyaki while Jyo apologizes for his challenge, saying he should not have done it in the first place.
Shirabe says that since he got them into this mess, he has to make the choice of what to do next: continue playing or forfeit the game. Taiya is a bit more encouraging, asking Jyo why he loves baseball. Jyo says it is the thrill of not knowing what will happen next until you are two outs into the ninth inning, even if it seems hopeless, the players give it their all to turn the tide. As long as you never give up the will to fight, you can make anything happen, choosing to keep playing despite the odds as he can see the checkered flag of the BBG in their future beyond the win of the baseball match today. Taiya and Jyo’s burning spirits synchronize with an armlock and the intensity of their determination sends a shockwave outward. Jyo has a game plan to turn their competing team’s 118 run lead into a loss with just one inning left, with his teammates rallying behind him.
Glove is annoyed that the Boonboomgers haven’t given up yet given the score but they transform into baseball versions of their Boonboomger suits and do a variation of their roll call. The team start racking up points using their Ranger power to counter Glove’s tricky throws. Jyo goes up to bat, fired up with determination which is enhanced by the cheers of his teammates, setting up a grand slam for Taiya. He uses his boot wheels to do a tornado spin and hits the ball, with the bases now loaded and no outs for the Boonboomgers.
Glove throws the ball, which turns into a speeding car after he pours his soul into every pitch. This technique causes Taiya to strike out twice and Glove believes he has won, throwing the final pitch, but Taiya changes into his 119 form to slow down the ball with his Hose Impact and bunts the ball into the ground and it pop flies into the air. Taiya gives the signal and everyone on base boosts at max speed with him, by the time the Nejiretta get to the Glove possessed ball in the outfield and throw it to Decotorade, Taiya slides to home base and is safe with Boonboomgers winning the game and the final score being 119 to 118. The team then cheer for Taiya and celebrate their “Ninth Inning Miracle”.
Glove returns to his body from the ball and fumes over his team losing, rushing off the pitcher’s mound to attack the Rangers. Taiya sets up his Shokablaster and banishes the baleful baseball brute with his Zoonzoom Overdrive finisher, netting a home run of victory as Glove goes out over the baseball field before exploding.
Decotorade and Itasha do their usual moping about losing, with the latter saying that the Earth game of baseball is hard. Yaiyai still wants to play, asking if they get extra innings despite losing while Coach Cannonborg punishes the Umpire Nejiretta with modification for leaving the game and not making a call.
Yaiyai goes berserk again and activates the Highway Beam, reviving Glove Grumer, who sets the baseball stadium on fire. Taiya calls for Leo Rescue, with Leon waking up from his slumber in the garage and changing into his vehicle mode to deploy and Bun Bun is summoned beside him. Glove gets hosed by Taiya in Leo Rescue and the others form Boonboomger Robo, with Bun Bun using a water tower to drench Glove while Taiya tries to put the fire out. Glove doesn’t make it easy as he throws flaming baseballs that hit Bun Bun and makes the inferno worse when they explode. Jyo urges Taiya that they should combine Bun Bun and Leon together to stop Glove, Super Fusing into Boonboomger Robo 119.
Glove prepares to pitch another barrage of flaming baseballs, but 119 is ready, using the fire hose ladder as a bat to knock all of them back at Glove. Jyo gets his revenge for being hit in the face by slamming 119’s shield into Glove’s face followed by a thrust from the Bakuage Ladder. Taiya uses the ladder to send Glove skyward and crashing back down on the ground. Taiya then activates the Bakuage Rescue: Zoonzoom Finish, creating a massive water tornado whip that douses some of the fire and obliterates Glove. Bun Bun then uses the Bakuage Ladder’s fire extinguisher to put out the remaining flames in the bleachers.
