Flog was a giant serpent monster who served as the first chronological monster faced by the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
History[]
Several days after Arrival Day, Angel Grove was still undergoing repairs after the attack from Goldar and the Putty Patrol. Even the Youth Center was being repainted after Rita Repulsa unleashed an earthquake on the city during Arrival Day. Flog was then sent down by Finster to assault the weakened city whilst four of the Power Rangers were fighting an army of Putty Patrollers. He was first seen confronting Kimberly and Matt who tried to flee from him until he knocked down Kimberly with a powerful swing from one of his tentacles. Matty then tried to defend her and let her escape but was critically hurt when a tentacle smashed him into a wooden wall. Kimberly then knelt over Matt's broken body as Flog prepared to finish them off. 
COMIC STORY- Go Go Power Rangers Issue 3
After a flashback to Kimberly starting out in Angel Grove, Flog was about to crush the duo under a tentacle when Zack (who had been fighting against the Putties with Trini) appeared and unleashed a devastating slash from his Power Axe which stunned it. Trini and Billy then hit him with their Blade Blasters, preventing him from finishing the trio. He then moved up the street where Trini threw a car into him whilst Zack and her discussed teleporting Jason in for assistance but decided not to a he was at the Youth Center during the attack and thus teleporting him out would expose his identity to everyone there. After Billy saved Skull and Matt was taken away by paramedics, Rita made Flog grow even bigger who then flew away to the Rangers' surprise.
However, Alpha calculated his trajectory and revealed that he was headed towards the Angel Grove Power Plant with Zordon realizing that the entire attack was to knock out all of Angel Grove's power and thus leave it open to outright invasion. They then summoned the Dinozords and discovered it absorbing the city's power using its tentacles before it grabbed the Sabretooth Tiger and Mastodon Dinozords in its tentacles, frying their controls in the process. The Pterodactyl flew in but he blinded it with a smokescreen and smacked it hard enough to cripple it so it couldn't perform another pass to blast it. Luckily, under orders from Zordon, Billy used his Triceratops Dinozord's tail cannon to destroy an electricity pylon which took out the power and allowed Jason to slip away in the darkness. Although Flog then grabbed Billy's Zord, Jason arrived in his Tyrannosaurus Dinozord and sent it flying with a single tail swipe before they formed the Megazord. Flog then leapt at them and swung at them but the Power Sword cut off one of his arms so he projected another smokescreen. A "KA-THUD" is then heard only for it then to be revealed that the Rangers had finished off Flog with the Power Sword.
Legacy[]
Despite being a seemingly insignificant monster of the day, Flog's attack reassured the people of Angel Grove that the Power Rangers could defend them no matter what. On the not so positive side, Zack confronted Zordon over why he chose Jason as the Red Ranger since he led the team for so much of the attack. Unknown to the Rangers at the time, Rita had kidnapped Matt sometime between him being picked up by paramedics after Flog moved up the street and him arriving at the hospital and implant a shapeshifting Putty in an attempt to undermine and individually destroy the Power Rangers.
Personality[]
Flog is a very unintelligent monster who communicates only in roars and "FLOOOOGs." However, it was smart enough to drain Angel Grove of its power and thus make it easier for Rita to take over.

- Super Jumps: Flog was able to jump several miles in a single bound when confronted by the Megazord.
- Flight: After being grown by Rita, Flog was able to fly by ejecting rocket like flames from his underside.
- Smokescreen Projection: Flog can bend over and blast a massive cloud of black smog from the pores on his back thick enough to blind the Pterodactyl Dinozord.
Abilities[]
- Strength: A single swing of Flog's tentacles was able to destroy an entire shopfront and remain standing despite Trini throwing a car into him. When giant, he could pick up and hurl around the Triceratops Dinozord.
- Durability: Flog shrugged off blasts to his back from Billy and Trini's Blade Blasters.
- Giant Size: Flog is a massive monster even before Rita made him grow, allowing him to tower over and overwhelm human sized enemies with ease.

- Tentacles: Flog has massive brown tentacles that he can use to smash into and pick up his enemies.
- Electricity Absorption: Flog can absorb electricity through his tentacles as seen when he attacked the Angel Grove Power Station.
- Electrocution: Flog can wrap enemies up in his tentacles and electrocute them with blue energy powerful enough to fry the Zord controls.

Notes[]
- This monster is never actually named by his creators, just being referred to as "the monster" by Finster. The name used here comes from Zack when he talked to Zordon about why Jason became the Red Ranger instead of him and seems to be just based on his constant screeching of "FLOG!"
- Flog's name seems to be based upon the words "flog" (meaning "to whip" like he does with his tentacles) and "smog."
- As with many monsters in Boom! Studios' Power Ranger comics, the monsters do not explode upon being destroyed and instead stay around as bodies which apparently get destroyed off-screen. Flog is no exception, the last the reader sees of him being the Megazord carrying his lifeless body.
