Flapnarok was a crystal/dragon-themed Sporix Beast serving Void Queen in Power Rangers Dino Fury Season 2 and the twenty-fourth Sporix Beast to awaken in the Power Rangers Dino Fury series. She is also the sister of fellow Sporix Beast Draknarok and the main antagonist in the Season 2 episode of Dino Fury "Losers Weepers".
History[]
Past[]
Over 65 million years ago, Flapnarok and the other Sporix Beasts were created on Rafkon by military leaders hoping to use them as weapons against an approaching evil. Aiyon believed they are dangerous and as he predicted, they eventually turned against their creators and desired to destroy all life in the universe. Though Zayto and his fellow Knights of Rafkon fought hard, the Sporix ravaged Rafkon and removed all traces of life from the planet. The Sporix then turned their attention to Earth but Zayto and the remaining Knights had managed to escape Rafkon and tracked the Sporix Beasts to Earth where they engaged them in battle with the help of dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures. Despite the Knights initially having the upper-hand against the Sporix, most of them grew enough in power over time to grow giant and force the Knights of Rafkon and their dinosaur allies to retreat. When all seemed lost however, the Morphin Masters arrived and bestowed the Morphin Grid's powers to Zayto and his followers, as the first Ancient Dino Fury Rangers which gave them the advantage they need to defeat the Sporix Beasts and seal them inside of their eggs.
Dino Fury[]
When the other Sporix are accidentally released in the modern day during Void Knight's invasion of Dinohenge, Flapnarok is amongst the Sporix Beasts that escape. TV STORY-Destination Dinohenge
Flapnarok was one of the many Sporix Eggs Void Knight collected in his attempt to revive Santaura. Eventually, she was used alongside the other captured Sporix to revive Santaura. TV STORY-Stitched Up
Sometime after Santaura became Void Queen, Mucus came back to Area 62 with a special collar that could grow somebody into a giant. Intrigued by the power of the collar, Santaura goes to the machine and pulls out Flapnarok's Sporix Egg. Flapnarok hatches out of her egg and Santaura tells Mucus to give her the collar. Mucus refuses to out of the 'finders keepers' rule, but Santaura zaps her and the collar flies into Flapnarok's hands. With the collar, Flapnarok grew without needing to wait for the Sporix's biological time frame to grow naturally and attacked Pine Ridge. The Rangers get an alert of Flapnarok's rampage, shocked on how a Sporix Beast grew that quickly. The five teleport to Pine Ridge as Flapnarok continues to destroy the city, nearly zapping the Rangers in the process. After morphing, the Rangers summon their Zords and form the Megazords. Zayto leads Amelia and Ollie in the Dino Fury Megazord Smash Formation, while the Garcia siblings pilot the Ptera Freeze Zord Battle Mode. They manage to stop Flapnarok from flying to New York, but she zaps the Ptera Freeze Zord in response. Knowing they need more power, the Rangers combine the Megazords into the Ptera Smash Ultrazord. However, none of their attacks work against Flapnarok, and she shoots lightning at them, bringing the Ultrazord down. The Rangers are ejected from the Ptera Smash Ultrazord as Flapnarok taunts them of their defeat. However, she soon shrinks back to human size, realizing the collar ran out of energy. Flapnarok summons the Hengemen as the Rangers try to get the collar out of her hands. However, the monster and the Hengemen overwhelm the team and they retreat to Area 62. Once the collar is recharged, Flapnarok returns to the city to resume her attack. However, the Rangers came back for a rematch with the newly stabilized Primal Ultrazord. The Rangers confront Flapnarok in the Ultrazord, using its speed to get behind her and toss her through the mountains. After taking Flapnarok through the sky and the ocean, they blast her into space with the Primal Triple Beam. Zayto summons the Megafury Saber as the Rangers finish Flapnarok with the Primal Ultra Blast. It's presumed that Flapnarok returned to her Egg form and the Rangers collected her. TV STORY-Losers Weepers
Even though she is not seen again, Flapnarok participates at the invasion of the Sporix during the final battle against the Rangers and the Rafkonians. She is defeated off-screen by the Rafkonians, her Sporix Egg was used by Void Queen to create her secret weapon: a chimera-themed Sporix Beast called the Nemesis Beast, and after the Rangers' victory, she is imprisoned forever by Master Red, Blue and Green in a crystal.
Personality[]
When compared to her brother Draknarok, Flapnarok was more cheerful and easy-going, though she is loyal to Void Queen. She also likes to crack jokes when getting a chance and is shown to not be nearly as intelligent as Draknarok.
Powers and Abilities[]
Powers[]
- All-Out Energy Blast: Flapnarok can unleash a series of energy blasts to an area around her.
- Hengemen Summoning: Flapnarok can summon an army of Hengemen to aid her in battle.
- Teleportation: Flapnarok can teleport to any location in a purple energy column.
- Enlarging: Flapnarok can enlarge herself through the energy she gains in battle over time but never used it thanks to the Growth Collar she received.
Abilities[]
- Strength: Flapnarok is shown to be more stronger than her brother Draknarok, being able to overpower all three Megazord formations with ease. It took the power of the Primal Ultrazord to defeat her.
- Durability: Like her brother Draknarok, Flapnarok possesses thick crystal-like scales that are nearly indestructible, allowing her to endure numerous blows from the Ptera Smash Ultrazord as well as survive being tossed around in a series of cities, thrown into five mountains, and kicked into the ocean by the Primal Ultrazord while not getting a scratch.
- Flight: Being a dragon-like Sporix Beast, Flapnarok is able to enlarge her wings, allowing her to fly.
- Underwater Breathing: Flapnarok shows no problem breathing underwater during her battle against the Primal Ultrazord (with her claiming that she has gills).
Weaknesses[]
- Growth Collar Power Consumption: Flapnarok's Growth Collar uses up a lot of power and will make her shrink to normal size if it runs out, requiring her to recharge it.
Arsenal[]
- Growth Collar: Flapnarok possesses a special collar that allows her to automatically grow to giant size and can be used as a makeshift shield as shown when she blocked an attack from the Pink Dino Fury Ranger.
- Horn: Flapnarok has a large yellow horn on her head which she can use in combat by bashing it against her foes.
- Horn Lightning Beams: Flapnarok can fire yellow colored lightning beams from her horn. This attack is extremely powerful, being able to cause large explosions in cities and take out the Ptera Smash Ultrazord in one hit.
- Horn Lightning Bolts: Flapnarok is also able to fire yellow colored lightning bolts from her horn.
- Horn Lightning Blast: Flapnarok can also fire yellow colored lightning blasts from her horn as well.
- Claws: Being a dragon-like Sporix Beast, Flapnarok has large curved claws for combat, much like Draknarok previously.
- Dragon Tail: Also much like Draknarok, Flapnarok has a long tail to whip and smack enemies with.
- Shockwaves: Flapnarok can release purple shockwaves at her opponents when she smacks them with her tail.
Behind the Scenes[]
Portrayal[]
- Flapnarok is voiced by Penny Ashton.
Design[]
- Much like her brother Draknarok, Flapnarok is based off of a dragon.
Etymology[]
- Flapnarok's name is a possible play on the words "flap" and Ragnarök (the Norse term for the end of the Norse Gods).
Notes[]
- Flapnarok is the first monster of the Power Rangers Dino Fury series to be fought by the Primal Ultrazord.
- Flapnarok is also the only Sporix Beast whose Sentai counterpart was mute.
- Flapnarok is very similar to the Generation 16 Hyper Bot in Power Rangers RPM and Fortress in Power Rangers Dino Super Charge seeing as:
- All three of them are monsters whose Sentai Counterparts who were naturally giant.
- Interestingly enough, all three of their Sentai counterparts were mute.
- All three of them overpowered more than one Megazord.
- It took the power of an Ultrazord to defeat them.
- All three of them were able to overpower the strongest Megazord the Rangers had at that time before getting a stronger combo.
- All three of them have lightning attacks and abilities.
- All three of them are monsters whose Sentai Counterparts who were naturally giant.
- With the exception of her Megazord fight, all of Flapnarok's footage was original to Power Rangers because her Sentai counterpart was never human-sized and was only a giant.
- The same can be said about her brother Draknarok and in the Sentai, she was not related to Draknarok in any sort of way other than having similar designs. It is quite likely this connection was made to explain the similarity Flapnarok has to her brother.
- Flapnarok is the second monster-of-the-week of the Power Rangers Dino Fury series to not fight the Dino Fury Rangers human size and is only fought giant, the first being the Spider Sketch Monster.
- Flapnarok serves as the halt of the Monster-Of-The-Week for five episodes in the second season of Power Rangers Dino Fury, as the next episode focuses on Void King, the episode right after that focuses on Lothorn, and the next three episodes focus on Lord Zedd, Sizzurai and Boomblaster.
- Flapnarok shares many similarities to her brother Draknarok since they are both dragon-themed Sporix Beasts with crystal skin, have a form of elemental projectiles, are monsters fought in odds, and both get fought by a new Megazord formation, though they have opposite traits:
- Draknarok launches projectiles from his mouth, fought the Dino Fury Power Rangers at normal size before growing, and is fought on the ground.
- Flapnarok however launches projectiles from her horn, never fought the Dino Fury Rangers at human size and is fought giant, has the ability to fly unlike her brother Draknarok, and is fought on the land, sky, sea and space.
- Flapnarok is among one of the strongest and most powerful monsters in the Power Rangers Dino Fury series, even exceeding Stone-Snare from the first season of Dino Fury, being able to overpower all six Dino Fury Power Rangers and three Megazord combinations with ease. It took the power of the Primal Ultrazord to finally take her out for good.
- While Flapnarok's Sporix Cell is not shown or mentioned to be caught by either the Rangers or Void Queen's group on-screen, it can be assumed the Rangers recaptured her Sporix due to Void Queen not having an interest in recollecting the Sporix Beasts after their defeat. It will be confirmed in later episodes.
