Ep. 38: High in the Sky, Flying Wings (空高く、翼舞う Sora Takaku, Tsubasa Mau) is the thirty-eighth episode of Doubutsu Sentai Zyuohger. It features the full debut of Zyuoh Bird and his Instinct Awakened form.
Synopsis[]
The Zyuohgers are barely withstanding the constant appearances of the Saguil brothers. Yamato cannot move because of his injured foot and it is none other than the Bird Man, Bud, who comes to help.
Bud transforms into Zyuoh Bird with the last of the King's Credentials, saving Yamato. Meanwhile, Larry tells Sela and the others about the history of Zyuland that he heard from Bud.
Plot[]
Having turned into Zyuoh Bird, the birdman fights the Saguill brother that attacked Yamato, destroying him with a unique move - the Glide Feather Slash. Untransforming, he finally introduces himself to Yamato as Bud and takes Yamato to a cave to heal.
Meanwhile, the Saguill brother that was fighting the other Zyuohgers retreat, prompting them to look for Yamato. Larry tells them he's with Bud and admits he suspected Bud as soon as they told him about the birdman giving Yamato his eagle Zyuman power. He fills them in on why he took the King's Credential while Bud tells the same story to Yamato.
Twenty years ago, Bud was a Link Cube guardian in Zyuland who befriended Larry in his efforts to learn about humans. One day, a human appeared through the Link Cube in bad shape. Instead of taking him to the palace like the rules say, Bud decided to hide him so he could heal, and the two became friends. However, when he was discovered, the Zyumans incarcerated him to keep him from returning to the human world and revealing the secret of Zyuland. Bud pleaded for his release to no avail. At night, the human tried to escape and fell off a cliff in the ensuing chase. That incident was covered up, and Larry believes similar incidents occurred before that in an effort to keep Zyuland secret. This convinced Bud that the worlds were better off separate, so he stole a King's Credentials to deactivate the Link Cube. He then claims he gave it to Yamato in the hopes that it would never find its way back; he only told the scared Yamato it would protect him to cheer him up. To him, the King's Credentials was a tool that breaks connections.
At Atelier Mori, the Zyuohgers are a bit shocked, but also relived, to find that the man who saved Yamato all those years ago was more than just a thief without purpose. Tusk proposes that this is no longer just about getting the King's Credentials back from him. Both groups sense the return of the surviving Saguill Brother. Yamato asks Bud to come watch so he can show him something - that what thinks breaks connections have instead allowed Yamato to create connections with others and to protect the world alongside them.
The other Zyuohgers arrive first and are shocked to see that there are once again two Saguill Brothers. They transform and fight, with Yamato joining later as Zyuoh Gorilla and both Bud and Larry watching. The Zyuohgers defeat one brother and all the Moeba, only for the survivor to say "One more Brother!" and split into two brothers once more. On the Sagitarrius Arc, Azald explains that the Saguill brothers are twins that can revive each other endlessly.
The Zyouhgers realize they cannot win unless they defeat both at once. The Saguill brothers also reveal that they have jet packs and use them to bombard everyone from above. All of them are knocked out of transformation, and Yamato is the only one who can still fight. Bud joins him, saying he won't let the bonds Yamato shares with the others break. As Zyuoh Eagle and Zyuoh Bird, the execute perfectly synchronized attacks that kill both brothers at the same time. Azald has Naria give them Continues, but the Zyuohgers solve this by standing between them in Wild Tousai Dodeka King and firing the Zyuohh Dodeka Dynamite Stream in both directions, again killing them both at once.
Bud comments on how Yamato is becoming more like "him" before flying off. The Zyuohgers findn that he's packed up everything from the cave and left. They are confident they'll see him again and commit to connecting Zyuland and the human world.
