The Evil Will (邪悪なる意志, Jaakunaru Ishi) was the sentient embodiment of darkness in the universe and the hidden true antagonist of Ninpu Sentai Hurricaneger as well as the series' final antagonist. It took the appearance of a multi-colored dimension and desired the annihilation of this universe and the creation of a new one under its control.

History[]

Past[]

The Evil Will came into existence when the universe was born and has existed as long as the universe as the embodiment of evil within it, but always desired to create a new universe where it is in full control of the universe and everything about it. To this end, it sought out those with dark hearts throughout the universe that could coordinate with reading its messages, sent by showers of meteors around various planets. These messages secretly contain cryptic prophecies that, if accomplished, could create a black hole-like opening that would absorb and annihilate all matter within the current universe, leaving nothing behind and allowing for it and it alone to survive and recreate the universe in its own image. 500 years prior to the series, the Evil Will became known by Boss Tau Zant, a powerful space ninja known who saw this as an opportunity to destroy the universe and create another one in its place. Tau Zant referred to the hole that would accomplish this goal by the cryptic term of "it". To achieve this objective, Tau Zant created the Space Ninja Group Jakanja whose only purpose was to figure out how to achieve that and grant the Evil Will this ultimate desire. Tau Zant was not the only being which the Evil Will was able to communicate with through its meteors. On the planet Earth, its messages are also picked up by Ikki Kasumi, an infamous ninja even within his own Ikazuchi Way Ninja School who tended to only take on the darkest of missions. While on a mission in Egypt, Ikki encountered one of the meteor showers, which he was able to read and became an obsession in being able to bring about "it" against the orders of his school. For the remaining years of his life until his own death, Ikki did everything in his power to bring "it" about by way of the prophecy, particularly in the harsh, dark methods of raising his two sons, Ikkou and Isshuu in order to prepare them to do what the Evil Will had instructed. The words of the prophecy became left behind to his sons on a special Ikazuchi Prophecy Device run on Shinobinium, to accomplish the means for the universe-annihilating hole when the time was right. Hurricaneger[]

In 2002, the Jakanja arrive on Earth as the last planet left to search for a way to bring forth the Evil Will. As the Dark Spears argue, Tau Zant stops their arguing as they have to search for "it." TV STORY-Scroll 1: Wind and Ninjas

After the destruction of the Ikazuchi School with Tau Zant's initial invasion of Earth, the Kasumi brothers partake in the instructions of their father by becoming the Gouraigers and joining with the invading Jakanja to bring "it" about. The duo follow the orders of the Evil Will by way of their father's prophecy device until elder brother Ikkou realizes the truth of the prophecy: for "it" to emerge, one of the Kasumi brothers would have to kill the other. After realizing the mistake and working together with the Hurricaneger, the duo turn their back on their father and ultimately the Evil Will's prophecy and thus slowing, but not stopping, the path for "that." TV STORY-Scroll 18: Father and Brotherly Bonds

A prophecy for a second path to "it" is sent by the Evil Will to Earth during a period where Sixth Spear, Satarakura has summoned his Ninja Wolf Beasts to run amuck. According to this prophecy, "it" will occur amidst the chaos brought about by both the Fangarou and the wolfmen they create from the people of Earth even after they are killed and merged into the Giant Beast Fangerus. This second prophecy is picked up by Space Union School ninja Shurikenger who intervenes by combining all of the ninja schools together to summon the Super Karakuri Beast Revolver Mammoth and using its power to unite with Gourai Senpuujin to destroy Fangerus and stop another of the Evil Will's paths. TV STORY-Scroll 33: Mammoth and Six People

The third, and ultimately successful, path to "it" by the Evil Will is initially sent to Earth after an upgraded "clone" of Third Spear, Manmaruba is created to assist the Jakanja and take revenge on the Gouraiger. While the Manmaruba clone is able to read the prophecy, the amount of information entering him becomes overwhelming to the point that it mutates him into a massive, unintelligent creature that cannot make use of the knowledge. TV STORY-Scroll 35: The Sparkle and The Shamisen

As the Earth ninja take down the Manmaruba clone, Tau Zant reads its mind and discovers the full prophecy from the Evil Will, immediately using its knowledge to have his final spear, Seventh Spear, Sandaaru, go to the planet Astrom to destroy it and steal a special stone containing a powerful Shinobi Medal within it, which can materialize into a weapon known as the Raging Arrow. TV STORY-Scroll 37: The Third Spear and The Great Escape

Through the trials of the ninja of Earth trying to stop this weapon, the Jakanja discover that its partner weapon, the Grieving Bow, resides on Earth within the body of the powerful Lady Gozen who is the leader of the Space Unified Ninja School. TV STORY-Scroll 39: The Seventh Spear and the Mysterious Stone

Knowing that they need to unlock the Grieving Arrow before using it, Sandaaru gives the Grieving Arrow to Fifth Spear, Sargain who uses it as the special weapon of Karakuri Giant Gaingain. Although it is fully unlocked, Yousuke gains the Raging Arrow medal and Sandaaru kills Sargain. TV STORY-Scroll 43: Super Fusion and The Big Clash

Manipulating Gozen's emotions to force her to become sad, Sandaaru kills her and steals the Grieving Bow medal and thusly finally gains the power needed for "it" to be achieved. TV STORY-Scroll 48: Trap and Eternal Life

With both Raging Arrow and Grieving Bow in hand, the Evil Will sends by meteor a final message to the Jakanja in order to teach Tau Zant the method of using the two medals to create the universe-annihilating hole. To prepare his body for the weapon, Tau Zant has Satarakura vacuum up both anger and sadness from the people of Earth so he can absorb it and achieve the ultimate form to use the weapons. Although the ninja stop the Sixth Spear at the cost of Shurikenger's life, Sandaaru is able to deliver the power to his master. TV STORY-Scroll 49: The Mission and The Galactic Ninja

Although the Hurricanegers rush to the Parasite Fortress Centipede to stop Tau Zant, the Jakanja leader upgrades into his ultimate form and uses his new power to fire the arrow with the bow into the ocean, starting the cycle for the Evil Will's annihilation. However soon after firing the arrow, Tau Zant is backstabbed and killed by Sandaaru. The Hurricaneger and Gouraiger destroy the remaining Dark Spears but the process of the Evil Will's destruction continues to grow as the planet becomes consumed by the evil hole. TV STORY-Scroll 50: Darkness and A New World

Taking a hint from Oboro Hinata prior to losing contact with her, the Hurricanegers use Senpuujin Hurrier to enter through the hole into the other dimension to reclaim the Raging Arrow and Grieving Bow. Within, they are attacked by the Evil Will trying to stop them. Gathering both weapons, they fire it from the side of the dark force's new universe, destroying it and saving the universe. Despite its main form's destruction, the Evil Will is able to survive by physically manifesting as Tau Zant before it returns to the main universe in a final effort to defeat the Earth ninja and get revenge. First taking the form of a giant Tau Zant, the Evil Will cripples Senpuujin and impales it but the Hurricanegers manage to strike him in the same weak point Sandaaru used to kill the original with the Sword Slasher. Although he explodes and takes Senpuujin down with him, the Evil Will survives and becomes all seven of the Dark Spears. Although he initially have the upper hand, the team is rejoined by the presumed dead Gouraigers who individually defeat all of the Jakanja servants. Finally becoming Tau Zant one last time, he proceeds to overpower the Rangers without mercy but their refusal to give up enables them to overwhelm the Evil Will with the Five Ninjas, Shadow Dance and kill him with the Victory Gadget's Destruction Decimate attack. With his physical form destroyed, the Evil Will is unable to sustain himself so is ejected before flying into the atmosphere and exploding. TV STORY-Final Scroll: Wind, Water, and Earth

Legacy[]

Before its ultimate demise, it gave birth to the Sacred Will which took form of Tenkai, a human child that Yousuke found and took care of. The Evil Will was the absolute embodiment of evil; cruel, sadistic, violent and happy to kill all life in the universe in order to become a God.

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers[]

Power: As the physical embodiment of evil in the universe, the Evil Will was one of the strongest enemies in Super Sentai history who required very specific weapons and strategies to defeat and decimated the Hurricanegers and Gouraigers with ease.
Meteor Shower Communication: The Evil Will was able to send down cryptic messages by way of meteor showers which could be read and interpreted by those with evil hearts and the ability to read them in order to take its orders.
- Corruption: Although his messages were strong, those not worthy of receiving his messages were physically changed by the absorbed information and their minds were destroyed as seen with the Third Spear, Manmaruba clone.
Absolute Control: The Evil Will had absolute control over the universe that it resided in that resulted in a number of effects:
- Suspension: The Evil Will was able to manipulate its gravity to physically restrain Senpuujin Hurrier within him.
- Lightning Blasts: The Evil Will was able to blast Senpuujin Hurrier with blue lightning whilst it was trapped inside him.
Manifestation: The Evil Will was able to manifest as Tau Zant and his Dark Spears after its main form was destroyed by Senpuujin Hurrier.

Weaknesses[]

Unleashing: The Evil Will was unable to act by itself and needed the Jakanja to get the Grieving Bow/Raging Arrow weapon to begin its plan.
Grieving Arrow: Being shot by the Grieving Arrow/Raging Arrow combo weapon completely destroyed the Evil Will universe.
Host Death: When Tau Zant was killed by the Victory Gadget, the Evil Will had nowhere to go and died with him.

As a disembodied universe with no physical form, the Evil Will had no weapons.

Behind the Scenes[]

Portrayal[]

The Evil Will was voiced by the late Seizō Katō, best known as Earth Emperor Zeba from Hikari Sentai Maskman and Dai-Satan in Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger. As Tau Zant, he was voiced by the late Kiyoyuki Yanada and his Dark Spear form were voiced by their respective actors although thier voices were interlaced with Katō's as well.
