Fern is the former rival and current girlfriend of Izzy Garcia who becomes the Cosmic Fury Orange Ranger of the Cosmic Fury Rangers.
History
Dino Fury
From Rival to Friend
Fern was first introduced as a rival of Izzy Garcia during a marathon race. During the race, when she catches up to Izzy, Fern tripped on a root and fell into a pit. Fern’s ankle is injured, and Izzy decides to go down and help Fern even though she will lose her lead. As Fern gets a ride back by officials, Izzy begins to rejoin the race, although she left to go after Boomtower. Since Izzy was willing to sacrifice her chance of winning to help her, the two ended their rivalry and eventually became friends.

Fern later catches up with Izzy and Zayto at Coach Bella's gym, where she revealed her injury had healed since then. She was among the other participants that were told by Izzy that Coach Bella was swindling them, and they all leave her gym and start taking Izzy's lessons. TV STORY-Super Hotshot
In a Relationship
Fern eventually fell in love with Izzy, who reciprocated her love as the two began dating and became a couple. TV STORY-The Matchmaker
Sometime later, Fern catches up with Izzy, who had been studying for electronics before her friends show up. The following day, she shows Izzy her test results, saying she was proud of her. Fern, alongside Izzy's friends, watch her going with Pop-Pop to fix his leaf blower. TV STORY-Crossed Wires
Later on, Fern asks Izzy to the prom, and she accepts with Izzy's mother, Rina offering to make the formal wear. When Izzy got a dress and threw it out, she got a message from Fern, who had gotten a tux, saying the bags got mixed up. Izzy and Rina later make a new dress for her before the day of the prom, where they take a group photo, along with the other Rangers. TV STORY-Stitched Up
Fern and Izzy later participate in Buzzblasts's Valentine's Day theme challenge, which they win, and notice Ollie with flowers meant for Amelia, but he makes up someone in front of her. TV STORY-Love Hate
Learning a Secret
Fern was later accepted into at Oakdale college. Before being caught up by Sporix Beasts and Hengemen, which separated her from Izzy. When the Green Ranger saves her and Warden Garcia, Fern becomes concerned for Izzy, even expressing to the Green Ranger how she loves her, but is comforted by her. When she hears Izzy declined her own Oakdale grant from the latter's father, Fern left, upset. At the bus stop to Oakdale, Izzy catches up with Fern. Izzy tells "I love you too". Fern realizes she never told her before and realizes she told the Green Ranger. She realizes Izzy is the Green Ranger but she keeps saying "if." She cannot tell anyone. Fern realizes why declined Oakdale. Fern says she understands and promise to keep it a secret. Fern gets on the bus and shouts out to Izzy "May the power protect you". TV STORY-Things Unspoken
6 months after the Sporix's destruction, Fern meets up with the other Rangers at Aiyon's Cafe revealing that Izzy is going Oakdale with Fern. Before they leave to respond to a call from Solon. TV STORY-The Nemesis
Cosmic Fury
Izzy and Fern were packing for Oakdale University when Izzy was called back to Dinohenge to support the others. When Izzy did not meet Fern as expected, the latter went to Dinohenge to retrieve her, but was caught in a firefight and was brought to the base by Javi, briefly shocked to see him with a cybernetic arm. With few options, Solon and the Rangers were forced to hit an untested "danger button" on the base console that was later identified as an emergency translocator, transforming it into the Cosmic Cruiser and launching everyone aboard into space. Fern was likewise stranded with the Rangers TV STORY-Beyond Repair,
But her relationship with Izzy made the accident bearable. TV STORY-Off Grid.
Largely cast as the "damsel in distress", Fern was frequently ordered to stay behind as the other Rangers went about their business. But it was she who came up with the idea to masquerade as a monster-metal band as a means to retrieve the Cosmic Dragon Zord ahead of Ollie, Squid Ink, and Zedd's goons, as she has trained on drums. Solon was abducted by Scuttleworms while attempting to repair the cruiser on Erridus; and while the other Rangers were busy fighting Ollie, Jozotic, and some giant Copyguards, Fern, who had stayed on the ship to track Billy and Solon, grabs the only weapon she could find, the sixth Cosmic Morpher, and sets out to rescue the Rangers' mentor. She finds Solon trapped in a nest of hatchlings and blasts the babies with the Morpher when they hatch and attack. After freeing Solon, two adult Scuttleworms arrive and attack them. After Solon jumps in the way of an attack meant for Fern, damaging her cybernetics, Fern goes to her aid. Upon touching Solon, the Cosmic Morpher reacts and fuses Solon's biological DNA with the Morpher and connecting Fern to the Morphin Grid. When Fern stands up to protect Solon, she is instantly transformed into the Orange Cosmic Fury Ranger, with power and weapons derived from Solon. Both are stunned and excited by this recent turn of events, and relay the incident to the other Rangers when they reunite aboard ship. Izzy in particular is thrilled that her partner can now fight by her side. TV STORY-Take Off
In her first official Zord mission, Fern and the Rangers attempted to infiltrate Earth to liberate it from Zedd, but Tarrick's spy, Heckyl, failed to disable the shield, resulting in them landing roughly and sent to Zedd's prison. However, Zayto, Aiyon, and Solon, with help from Tarrick's resistance, manage to rescue them before she, the other Rangers, Billy and Heckyl stay behind to deal with the Zentinels. Fern and Izzy went to New Zealand, dubbed New Zeddland, and manage to liberate before turning to Pine Ridge, where sometime later, Aiyon returned with Mucus and Slyther, intending to use them to get onto Bajillia Naire's ship, find the Triceratops statue and destroy it to free Ollie. Personality
Fern starts out determined to win the race. However, she turns friendly after Izzy comes to her aid when she hurts herself. From this point forward, Fern and Izzy slowly cement a relationship. Between the pair, Fern is the sensitive and compassionate foil to Izzy's tomboyish and competitive nature. Yet the two come to respect and admire one another in spite of each other's quirks, even as outside influences often keep them apart for extended periods of time. But when Fern finds herself in a thorny situation, she knows she can count on Izzy and her friends to help her deal with it.
Though Fern falls all too often into being the one in need of rescue early on (see above), in later episodes she is shown to be quite brave as she went to go save Solon from the Scuttleworms. She also has a knack for finding solutions her friends cannot at any given moment. Most importantly, Fern is a fast learner, as evidenced by that she adapted to her nascent Ranger powers in a very short amount of time to be able to take the fight to the villains; and although Izzy remains overprotective of her at times, Fern can hold her own in battle.

This is Fern's primary Ranger form as a result of the Cosmic Morpher reacting with Solon's DNA. It is based on a Solonosaurus.

Concept Art
Etymology
- A fern is any member of a family of leafy plants that reproduces by the transmission of spores, rather than seeds. Its origins as a primarily feminine given name and surname are rooted in Old English, but only date from the 19th century with the implied meaning, "one who lives among ferns".
Notes
- Fern is the first official Orange Ranger to make an appearance in the main TV series.
- The Cosmic Fury Orange Ranger's helmet is retooled from the Cosmic Fury Red Ranger's helmet, with the addition of a silver spike where the visor is located.
- The Orange Ranger's motif is the Solonosaurus, a fictional dinosaur species that Solon is a part of. As such, she is the only Ranger on the team (as well as the only dinosaur themed Power Ranger) based on a fictional prehistoric species created specifically for the show.
- Fern is one of a handful of human Power Rangers to not have a last name revealed.
