Don't be Vain (うぬぼれるなッ Unuboreru nā) is the ninth episode of Gosei Sentai Dairanger. This episode introduces the mysterious Peacock Buddha Kujaku and begins a recurring story-line between her and Daigo of the Heavenly Phantom Star.
Synopsis[]
Daigo is approached by the vision of a peacock and a mysterious qi to defeat a Gorma Minion which had trapped within an ancient Dai warrior.
Plot[]
Daigo is caring for the pets in his pet shop when he senses something strange. He walks out to check, but only finds a peacock feather drop in front of him.
Some time later, Daigo was meditating when he sees a vision of a peacock flying towards him. As the vision ends, Daigo questions who it was that interfered with his Qi.
At the city, a woman stops in front of a mirror when a tongue drags her into it, with the same happening to many others.
At the Dairanger headquarters, the Dairangers are discussing rumors of women being swallowed into mirrors, and Master Kaku confirms the rumors are true. It is done by a Gorma Minion named Mirror Make-Up Artist, a dangerous Gorma who has defeated a Dai Tribe warrior in the past named Kujaku. Daigo wonders about the vision he had of a peacock, thinking if it's related to Kujaku.
That night, a man looks at himself in a mirror, and sees images of the captured women in the mirror. A tongue lashes out and drags him in, before the mirror spits him out. The Gorma gags and complains, and the Gorma Triumvirate appears and tells him to hurry up and gather vanity energy to destroy the city.
The next day, Daigo is walking when he hears a woman being dragged into a mirror. He arrives and attacks the object, and a tongue comes out and grabs him. Daigo transforms, and attacks Mirror Make-Up Artist. As they fight, ShishiRanger was knocked down, and the other Dairangers arrive. Annoyed, Mirror Make-Up Artist leaves, and ShishiRanger catches a glimpse of rainbow-colored Qi emanating from the Gorma. Daigo asks if the other Dairangers saw it, but they replied they didn't. Later Daigo wonders whose Qi it is that he saw, as such energy cannot belong to the Gorma.
Mirror Mae-Up Artist uses his abilities to explode mirrors all over the city, sending glass shards everywhere and injuring civilians. The Dairangers arrive and try to help, but were unable to do anything. Frustrated, Daigo meditates, and tries to contact the peacock from his visions. Daigo asks it to take him to where the Gorma is. Daigo later appears in front of Mirror Make-Up Artist, and transforms into ShishiRanger. Mirror Make-Up Artist summon Cotpotros, and ShishiRanger fights. ShishiRanger traps the Gorma in an illusion, and as he tries to break it, his attack was reflected back by the other Dairangers, who appear with mirrors. The Gorma uses a Kaleidoscope illusion to create copies of himself, and counterattacks. ShishiRanger then hears a voice, calling him to strike when it gives the signal. He then sees multi-colored Qi emanating from one of the Mirror Make-Up Artists, and he attacks, breaking the illusion and the Gorma's mirror.
Mirror Make-Up Artist uses a Growth Bomb to grow giant, and the Dairangers summon their Mythical Qi Beasts. Forming Dairen'Oh, the Mecha makes quick work of the Gorma, destroying it quickly in a few strikes.
The Dairangers rush to the women released, while Daigo tries to find the woman with the multi-colored Qi who helped him. He finds her, and the Dairangers finally meet Kujaku. Kujaku confirms it was her who contacted Daigo, and as long as Daigo was in possession of her peacock feather, they can synchronize their Qi whenever they needed.
