Ep. 8: Between Right and Wrong, the Ring Hunter (正邪ゆらめく、指輪の狩人, Seija Yurameku, Yubiwa no Kariudo) is the eighth episode of No.1 Sentai Gozyuger. It features the full debut of Kuon/Ring Hunter Garyudo.

Synopsis

The Ring Hunter, Garyudo, suddenly shoots Meguru! It seems that Garyudo is the "trump card" of the Buraidan Queen.

Furthermore, Hoeru's brother, Hisamitsu, who he once lost in the No One World, appears in front of Hoeru! Hoeru is happy to see Hisamitsu -- who now goes by "Kuon" -- again and the two brothers get along well. However, something is wrong with Hoeru. Thanks to his brother, they have become more like a team, but he starts attacking the other Gozyuger members...!?

Finally, the battle of the rings between the Gozyugers begins!?

Plot

Meguru losing his TegaSword

Continuing from the previous episode, the mysterious Ring Hunter succeeded in taking down Meguru Osai and collects his Zyuranger Sentai Ring. The Gozyugers is preplexed by this sudden turn of event, with Ryugi attempted to call him out for shooting Osai from behind without warning. In response, The hunter shoots them and takes Meguru's body, ignoring Hoeru's question as to what he's planning to do with it before returning to No One World through a hoop.

At No One World, Fire Candle celebrates at King Candelor being fixed, calling Queen TegaJune to watch him finally beat Gozyu Wolf. Just as he does, the doors of Bridan's castle open and TegaJune awakens, calling upon the name Garyudo. Fire Candle, Mr. Shining Knife and Ms. Sweetcake are shocked that their queen has awakened as the Ring Hunter enters the room. The hunter greets the queen and present her the collection of Sentai Rings that he hunted so far (JAKQ, Gekiranger, Goseiger, Ninninger, and Zyuranger). TegaJune is joyed by this good news and reminds him of her wish to collect all of the Rings and be married. Fire Candle is offended at being ignored by TegaJune, and asks who the mysterious hunter is. Mr. Shining Knife introduces him as Ring Hunter Garyudo, a mercenary tasked with hunting down the Universe Warriors and collecting their Sentai Rings, while flashbacks of Garyudo killing the Aka Ninger, Gosei Red and Spade Ace Universe Warriors are shown. Garyudo prepares to go and declared that his next target to be hunted down will be Gozyu Wolf, but Fire Candle stops him, telling him that this Gozyuger member should be defeated only by him. In response, Garyudo coldly remarked thag Fire Candle is being out of Gozyu Wolf league, mocking him for his countless loss against the latter before leaving the castle, much to Fire Candle's frustration.

At TegaSword Village, Ryugi is answering phone calls for deliveries. Hoeru wakes up late, with apparently didn't sleep well enough, so Kinjiro asks him if he didn't sleep well. Hoeru blames Kinjiro since he partied all night right next to his room, with Kinjiro cheerfully announced that they'll be a neighbor, now that Kinjiro had rented the room next to him. Ryugi tells Kinjiro that he recieved an order to deliver and asks Kinjiro to accompany him. Hoeru is shocked to know that Kinjiro is quickly gaining a part time job, and angrily asked Ryugi to hire him too. But Ryugi tells him that he's too grim-faced and would be better as a guard dog for the café, and makes Hoeru sit down like a dog with his enhanced strength. After Ryugi and Kinjiro leave, Hoeru sits alone at TegaSword Village, sulking as the doors open and a man enters the room. Hoeru tells the man that the café is on a break, but the man calls him by his name and tells him he missed him a lot. Hoeru makes his usual circle with his fingers, and the man makes an X with his index fingers and calls Hoeru his prey. Hoeru realizes that only one more person that his not him would use this catchphrase, and that's his long-lost brother, Hisamitsu.

Hoeru meets his brother again

Hoeru hugs his brother out of joy that he's still alive, and blames himself for losing him at No One World. Hisamitsu tells him that he's also happy to see his brother, and that like him, he found out that his parents have moved on from their disappearances, but doesn't mind since he and Hoeru have each other. He asks Hoeru if he's got some time to spare, and Hoeru confirms.

As the two walk to a studio, Hoeru asks Hisamitsu where they're going. Hisamitsu tells him that he no longer goes by this name, and is now named Kuon. Kuon expresses his wish to make a world where anyone is happy, using his company latent progress in AI. At the studio, Hoeru watches as Kuon filmed for a commercial for his company, Kuon AI Konzern. After the filming is complete, a group of employees come and inform Kuon that AI Konzern has been chosen as one of the top 100 most influential businesses. Kuon thanks them before going to his office with Hoeru, who once again looks up for him in a good light.

Hoeru praises Kuon at becoming a successful CEO, telling him that he always looked up to him due to him always being Number One at whatever he did. Kuon tells him that he's still got some things to do, and offers Hoeru some sushi to eat. As Hoeru quickly dines on the Sushi, Kuon offers him to join him as his right hand man. Hoeru agrees, and Kuon is called by one of his employees. Kuon goes to talk with the employee and berates him for failing to live up to his expectations for the last three months. The employee begging for Kuon to give him another chance to improve himself, but Kuon decides to punish him. He makes an X with his fingers and an Ominous projection of a red colored X appears on the terrified employee, most likely terminating the latter.

Meanwhile, Fire Candle goes on a rampage with a group of Aryee and calls Hoeru, wishing to fight him before Garyudo does. At the same time, Ryugi and Kinjiro are on their way back from the delivery. Kinjiro stops at a grocery store, wishing to buy some food for Hoeru, but Ryugi advices to not get attached to someone he'll have to fight in the future. Kinjiro replies that while it's true that they'll have to fight in the future, it'd be a waste of time to not having fun together in the present. While Ryugi acknowledge Kinjiro's wisdom, he suddenly recieves a message from Rikuo, who informs him of Fire Candle's attack.

Kuon revealing to Hoeru that he's Garyudo

Ryugi and Kinjiro transform and join Rikuo and Sumino, who are fighting Fire Candle and the Aryee. Fire Candle wonders where Hoeru is and is annoyed at the other Gozyugers getting in his way. Hoeru and Kuon arrive nearby the battlefield, and Kuon tells his brother that now it's time to defeat the Gozyugers. Hoeru is confused, so Kuon show him his TegaJune and its accompanying Sentai Ring, revealing to Hoeru that he's the Ring Hunter who killed Meguru. Kuon tells Hoeru that he changed, and gaslighted Hoeru that his alliance with the other Gozyugers and wish to be Number One are not genuine, seeing how his brother is simply following him under the farce of becoming Number One. Before Hoeru can tell him that he's wrong, Kuon asks him why he's fighting if he doesn't have a wish. Kuon then proceed to manipulate Hoeru that he's always empty and desireless now and ever, that he'll always a damaged person for life. Finally, Kuon tell Hoeru to believe in his big brother, embrace his lack of passion and hunt down his enemies to stay at the top. Hoeru suddenly lets out a loud howl, alerting the Gozyugers and Fire Candle of his appearance.

Hoeru transforms into Gozyu Wolf and joins the fight, but suddenly starts attacking Ryugi! Sumino reminds him that he's attacking the wrong guy, but he continues attacking everyone present and tells her that they're all rivals and shouldn't have even become a team in the first place. Kuon is seething with twisted excitement upon witnessing Hoeru following his suggestions and decides to join the fight and transforms into Ring Hunter Garyudo. Rikuo notices him and realizes that he's the one responsible in making Hoeru turn on them. Kuon confirms that and reveals to the Gozyugers that he's simply letting his little brother free from the shackles called bond, shocking Sumino. Hoeru then faces an eager Fire Candle, who tells him to summon TegaSword so that he could finally defeat them. Hoeru and Candle summon TegaSword Red and King Candelor, starting to fight each other.

Meanwhile, the other Gozyugers are facing Garyudo, who avoids their attacks and summons clones of Aka Ninger and Gosei Red by inserting their Rings into TegaJune. The Ranger clones begin attacking the Gozyugers until Garyudo shoots them, transforming them into their Ninja Ichibantou and Skick Sword and wielding both swords to attack the Gozyugers. Kinjiro calls him out for using his allies as weapons, but Kuon instead refers to them as servants before resuming his attacks.

Meanwhile, as TegaSword Red and King Candelor fight, Fire Candle notices that Hoeru is not focused on the fight. Nevertheless, Fire Candle sees this as a chance to overpower TegaSword Red, whom ended hitting a reserve fuel tank. As TegaSword Red is on the brink of defeat due to the fuel tank explosion, Fire Candle is about to execute TegaSword Red using his finisher : Fireheart Sword - Torchlight. King Candelor proceeds to ignite the Candeluxe Sword in fire and about to ram it to the defenseless TegaSword Red... But he stopped. Fire Candle expresses his rage and disappointment that this is NOT the rematch he wanted. He tells a dispirited Hoeru that he can neither find the latter fighting spirit nor burning passion throughout the whole fight, and that beating up a soulless puppet is not worth the glory, before he retreats in frustration despite his victory. Hoeru can only pant as his mental is shaken by this defeat.

Garyudo finally activates his finisher, June Blast on the other Gozyugers, who barely manage to avoid it in time, and retreats as well. As Hoeru returns, the Disappointed Gozyugers decide to let him have his way and fulfill his wish to fight him for the Rings, despite Kinjiro properly apologize to the Lone wolf that it has to turn out this way. They prepare to attack him to fulfill their respective wishes, but Hoeru simply state that doesn't have a wish and will never have one, before throwing his Gozyu Wolf ring away. Hoeru decides to quit the Gozyugers before he walks away from them. Kuon simply watches him and makes an X with his finger, marking Hoeru as his prey. The episode ends with a projection of Kuon breaking into a malicious smirk as Hoeru walks in disgrace.
