The Formidable Enemy, Brain Machine (強敵 頭脳マシン Kyōteki Zunō Mashin) is the sixth episode of Chouriki Sentai Ohranger. It is the first of a two-part story giving backstory to Chief Counsellor Naoyuki Miura and introducing the first of the machines that will be utilized for the team mecha for the season.
Synopsis[]
A genius Machine Beast manipulates an incident from Miura's past in hopes of using it to find out intelligence on the new machines being built for the Ohranger.
Plot[]
On a dark field covered in lightning, a Machine Beast known as Bara Brain chants out "Bara Psychic, Bara Telepathy" towards a picture of Colonel Miura of UAOH, wondering where he is. He tries to send out a telepathic message to Miura in the process. On the moon, Bacchus Wrath shows displeasure of the Ohranger building new machines, Acha revealing reports that the team is developing five machines to oppose them but they can't discover their location. Hysteria tells her emperor that she's chosen the hand-picked elite of the Baranoia Army Machine Beasts to Earth to deal with them; Buldont asks whom as she the Empress states it is Bara Brain. She reveals that Miura is heading up the development of these machines and that even if they don't know where the development point is, they can capture the colonel, loosen his tongue and then use it to their advantage.
Meanwhile in a hidden cave, the UAOH workers work day and night on the new vehicles under Miura's watch. One of his partners tells the UAOH scientist to take it easy with the exhaustion of sleepless nights working on the mecha but Miura states they must finish these as quickly as possible. At that moment, Bara Brain uses his power as the tired scientist falls asleep, revealing in a dream a girl running to him. Using this image, Bara Brain forces the girl to appear before Miura in a room similar to UAOH base. Miura identifies this girl as Mitsuko (nicknamed "Mikko"), as she asks for his help against Baranoia before she vanishes. Miura continues to chase her as she calls for his help, but Bara Brain restrains the colonel as she disappears once again, being seen by Gorou as Miura convulses and is brought to safety. As the other Ohranger inquire, they discover that Mikko is the daughter of Miura's best friend, realizing that Baranoia is making her appear as a mirage to have him save her from the machine enemies. Miura shows worry, wondering if something really is happening to Mikko as he wanders off away from the Ohranger.
Meanwhile, Mikko is departing school as she meets up with Miura and Gorou, the girl stating she's happy when she found out that the colonel wanted to see her on the phone the previous day. Miura wonders if anything strange is happening, confusing her as he takes her aside and decides to drive her himself. Gorou notices no Baranoia in the area, wondering how strange it is. The trio go to an amusement park; as Mikko goes on the rides, Miura apologizes for the paranoia and reveals to Gorou that her father was a UA lieutenant colonel; five years prior when relocating, the father died in an accident: the car they were driving in was thrown off a cliff and he and Mikko were hanging for dear life on a cliffside; but when Miura tries to save both, the father tries to make sure that Mitsuko, his daughter, was alright before telling his partner to save his daughter and take care of her before falling from his grip into the rocks and waves below, allowing for Miura to save her but not his co-worker. Miura wishes he was strong enough to save both while watching Mikko having fun, making him wonder what could have been; and that when he entrusted her to him, he decided to watch over the girl until she grew up safely. Gorou commiserates and states that Mikko appreciates what he's done for her; but can't talk any further as a squad of Takonpas attacks with Barlo Soldiers; OhRed fighting the machines as Miura tries to protect Mitsuko. Transforming into OhRed, Gorou continues to fight while Miura and Mitsuko run until they discover they are trapped by Bara Brain, who states that he knew the mirages would affect them until they were drawn out into the open before vanishing and two orbs attack the duo until one of them zaps Mikko making her fall unconscious. Miura tries to make sure she's alright, but she's revived as Bara Brain's prisoner, using his psychic power to push him away before standing as his opponent. Using another psychic attack, the colonel is tossed around wriggling in pain as Bara Brain reveals he's used his psychic powers to make Mitsuko his slave.
OhRed continues to fight off the Barlo as Shouhei and Juri join him, but a Takonpas squadron attacks forcing Yuji and Momo to use Chouriki Cannons of the Thunderwings to shoot them down before their teammates can transform to help Gorou. One of Bara Brain's orbs attacks them before becoming giant, taking multiple vehicles and fusing with them into a new giant, Bara Separate, who uses it's electricity to destroy the city. Yuji fires the Chouriki Cannons pushing it back but not affecting it before it fires another electric attack hurting the Thunderwing before using psychic powers to push the other Ohranger away.
Later, Miura awakens by the seaside tied in chains and on a pole as Mitsuko appears before him with the orb surrounding her, confirming she's still possessed by Bara Brain. The Machine Beast reveals he knew using her was the best means of making the colonel suffer before showing an image of Bara Separate's rampage, stating it's an extension of him. Bara Brain states that if he doesn't want to see the city destroyed or anyone die, Miura will show where the machines are being developed. Miura states even if others die, he believes the machines are Earth's last, best hope and won't tell them. Mikko tells Miura that he's mean, stating that he's being harsh and that with the Ohranger's job to protect Earth and the people on it, he doesn't care if people die for the sake of the planet and states that he let her father die intentionally in a similar manner. Miura states he wanted to save both of them but Mitsuko states he's lying and that her father hates him even in death! Bara Brain's orb creates an image of Lieutenant Colonel Endo, which Miura knows is an illusion as Mikko pleads to reveal the location, the Colonel stating that the Machine Beast is making her do these things to make him suffer. Miura tries to withstand the mental torture and tells Bara Brain to free Mitsuko!
Back at UAOH base, Yuji and Momo stagger in witnessing Bara Separate's rampage, making OhPink despair at the fate of the city and their leader. Yuji states there is one way: their machines are the closest of the five new ones to completion and they can use them to attack the Machine Beast! Momo states they can't decide this until their leader returns, but OhBlue states they don't have time for this as the duo rush into the factory. Removing the scaffolding, Yuji reveals his new mecha, the Dash Leon and Momo's Moa Loader; transforming, the duo head off with their machines, rushing to the aid of their teammates even as the other Ohranger witness them leaving, angering Shouhei they'd run off like that. Juri asks Gorou what they'll do since they can't finish the other three without the chief, but OhRed states they can handle the rampaging Machine Beast and that they'll find the chief and save him and Mitsuko. In the city, Dash Leon rushes with Moa Loader pulled by it, the two attacking with their weaponry against the giant Machine Beast. Miura sees the two and shows hope, while Bara Brain is surprised that two of the machines are complete but wonders why there are two and not five, realizing that all five aren't ready. The Machine Beast goads him on making him wonder if he worries about the girl before zapping her with his orb, making Mikko fly in the air helplessly. Meanwhile in the city, Bara Separate attacks the two mecha, Yuji realizing they'll be destroyed while the other three use their Thunderwings to search for their leader. At that moment, Mikko is dropped to the ground and thrown up in torture, while the Baranoia leadership laugh manically at how desperate the Ohranger have become as their forces easily crush the two mecha.
