Ep. 3: The Boss of Japan! I'm the Prime Minister! (日本のドン！私が総理！, Nihon no Don! Watashi ga Sōri!) is the third episode of No.1 Sentai Gozyuger. It features the debut of TegaSword Blue, as well as the full debut of Sumino Ichikawa. GozyuEagle briefly appears at the end of the episode.

Synopsis

While working part-time, Hoeru becomes concerned about a "suspicious and unpleasant smell of peaches." Hoeru traces the source of the smell to the Prime Minister, Tokonatsu Atami, who is giving a speech to a crowd of people. In fact, Tokonatsu is also one of the strongest and most popular of the Ring Warriors, who has transformed into Don Momotaro...!?

Once back in the TegaSword Village, Hoeru was thinking about how to take away Tokonatsu's ring when a mysterious woman, Sumino Ichikawa, appeared. She and Ryugi get into a tense atmosphere...!?

Soon after, Hoeru decides to have a showdown between Popular No.1 and the number one popular person. Then, Tokonatsu joins them, and the battle turns into a super chaotic one!

Plot

Tokonatsu changes into Don Momotaro

In his new job, Hoeru smells something disturbing and ends up harassing costumers trying to find the source, which ends with him being fired. He then runs into Rikuo Byakuya and the Idol tells a perplexed Hoeru that those whom possess a Ring Contract will be blessed with enhanced senses. Rikuo proceed to explain that Ryugi gained Enhanced Strength, he gained Enhanced Hearing, and that Hoeru most likely gained Enhanced Smell. Hoeru is still not over the smell and claims that he smells a peach. The two go to a crowd and find several avid supporters celebrating the youngest, and most popular Prime Minister of Japan, Tokonatsu Atami, also known as one of the Universe Warrior, Don Momotaro.

Meanwhile, Hoeru's former boss, a Fruit & Vegetable Store Owner is upset at his shop's decreased popularity due to Hoeru scaring off customers. He wished to become popular like Tokonatsu, prompting Popular No.1 to use the Store Owner as his Host. The monster then appears in the crowd of Tokonatsu, whom already transformed into Don Momotaro, claiming to be the most popular but Tokonatsu attacks him before the monster even finishes his monologue and gains the audience's cheers. He then uses origami foldings of a pink pheasant, black dog and blue monkey to fight and defeat the Ai. Tokonatsu successfully scares off the monster and claims victory, much to the elation of his supporters.

At the Cafe Half Century, Rikuo, Hoeru and Ryugi discuss to claim Tokonatsu's ring, but a woman appears out of nowhere and tells them that it wouldn't be wise before calling Ryugi's parfait expensive, shattering the Monk's self esteem. She then remembers that they have similar rings and questions why they are getting so well together. Ryugi tells her that per TegaSword's request, they need to collect all the Sentai rings, which is easier to accomplish as a team. Of course, as soon as the goal is accomplished, they will split up and battles each other to determine the true victor. While Rikuo agreed on the notion, Hoeru is quite startled by Ryugi's statement, although he's quick to agree.

Ryugi then asks who the woman is, what she has to do with Tokonatsu and the reasonable price for a parfait. The woman gets a notification from her phone about a party and dashes off before answering his questions. Popular No.1 attacks again and brainwashes a crowd of people to idolize him. Hoeru points this out and Popular No.1 taunting Hoeru to try gaining popularity, but the man fails terribly, and instead scares the people. Seeing this, Rikuo decides to teach both Hoeru and Popular No.1 about what popularity really means, and starts performing his song to the crowds. Due to Rikuo's charisma, many people who are brainwashed by Popular No.1 breaks free and become his newest fans, the Rikuonists. Unexpectedly, Bouquet also watched Rikuo's performance by chance and immediately fell hard, becoming another Rikuonist. Popular No.1 then propose a challenge to become Number 1 in popularity between him, Hoeru, and Rikuo before he and Rikuo walked away with their fans.

Left alone, Hoeru howled in frustration on how to become Popular in the first place. His cry of help is seemingly "answered" by the arrival of Tokonatsu, who rides his Palanquin as if a jet. Tokonatsu offered Hoeru to teach him the three main method to become popular:

1. A heartwarming greeting

Tokonatsu first takes Hoeru around town by getting him to form bonds, starting with a pleasant greeting but Hoeru chokes due to being inconvenient and attempts to leave but Tokonatsu just finds him again after a while, before telling him the next step:

2. Don't do nothing when you see someone in trouble

Tokonatsu showed an example by helping a young girl become a princess after her clothes are ruined by ketchup, and an old man to cross the road safely. He then tries to get Hoeru to do the same, but Hoeru runs away since he feels even more uncomfortable. He then hears the screams of a man that messed up his dirty and clean laundry. Hoeru then decides to help out using his enhanced sense of smell and gains the applause of Tokonatsu for his selfless act, the minister saying that Hoeru could potentially become the most popular person. Hoeru is touched by the man's words and the popularity contest starts by collecting several mental ballots, which tally upon who did the subjects think of as their favorite at the time of polling.

As Popular No.1 collects all the Mental Ballots, the Ais are shocked to see that most ballots are filled with Tokonatsu's name. A laugh from the man is heard and he walks behind the contestants, telling them that no one else is allowed to be number one in popularity but himself in Japan. He told Hoeru that his plan and enthusiasm worked perfectly that even a stray like Hoeru took it and made him more popular. Hoeru was angered about being tricked, saying that Tokonatsu told him that he could be the most popular, but the Prime Minister states that Hoeru can… but only in a world where Tokonatsu himself doesn't exist. Tokonatsu finally revealed the last step of becoming popular:

TegaSword Blue's first appearance

Fed up by this betrayal, Hoeru takes that as a challenge and the red warriors transform to begin the final round. Soon enough, Ryugi and Rikuo joined the hegemony, transformed into GozyuTyranno and GozyuLeon to battle against the Buraidan. Not long after, Bouquet joins the fight in her mecha, Calendius to assist Popular No.1, prompting GozyuLeon to summon Giant God TegaSword and reconfigure it into TegaSword Blue!

The two mecha battle against each other in a shootout, with TegaSword Blue proven superior and successfully landed an attack on Calendius. Unfortunately, the attack ruined Rikuo's signed photograph that Bouquet got earlier. Bouquet throws a tantrum over this and aggressively counterattacking TegaSword Blue out of sheer rage and hatred, shocking Rikuo inside. However, despite her fury, TegaSword Blue still proven superior and is able to defeat Calendius after unleashing its finisher. Bouquet cursed that she won't lose next time and escaped before Calendius exploded.

Back at Number 1 Battle, Don Momotaro takes out a Jetman Sentai Ring and uses it to grow wings and achieve flight, but GozyuWolf catches up quickly. GozyuTyranno uses the Ohranger Sentai Ring to defeat the Ais and capture Don Momotaro in a pyramid-like energy structure. Popular No.1 makes fun of his capture but is quickly subdued by GozyuWolf. GozyuWolf successfully rescued the Store Owner and finishes off Popular No.1, with the Store Owner proclaimed that he saw a Red Hero before passing out. While GozyuWolf gloated about his victory, the Popularity battle is still won by Don Momotaro, much to GozyuWolf's disbelief.

GozyuEagle appears

Don Momotaro laughed while praising GozyuWolf's latent ability, and suggests that they battle more but a green warrior comes from the sky, trying to shoot them down and Tokonatsu takes his leave with the woman from earlier, who is revealed to be Sumino Ichikawa, the Prime Minister's right-hand lady, and a private, High-Class detective. Hoeru is quick to notice that Sumino is also another one to bear a ring contract.

Hoeru is upset at losing the battle, but Rikuo gives him a mental ballot from his former boss showing his gratitude and his vote for the red hero. Hoeru is touched by this, and swear that Tokonatsu will be his first prey for him to hunt, and claimed his ring.

The episode ends as the green warrior from before drops down, prompting Hoeru, Ryugi, and Rikuo to take stance. However, as the Green Warrior cancelled his transformation, he's shown to be an elderly, 87-year-old grandfather named Joji Takehara, who looks forward to working with them, much to the trio's bewilderment.

Gozyuger Episode 3's Title Card

• The title of the episode contains the kana Don (ドン, Don) in reference to the appearance of Tokonatsu Atami as the Universe Warrior incarnation of Don Momotaro.
• Tokonatsu's methods of gaining popularity resembles Taro's methods of forming bonds with people. He also does Taro's iconic laugh multiple times.
• When Tokonatsu debuts, he is carried on a palanquin, similar to Taro whenever he arrived in battle.
• Tokonatsu using the Jetman Sentai Ring is likely a callback to Toshiki Inoue's previous work before Donbrothers.
