The Dreadful Universal Highway Project (恐怖の大宇宙ハイウェイ計画 Kyōfu no Daiuchū Haiwei Keikaku) is the thirty-seventh episode of Gekiso Sentai Carranger. It formally introduces Reckless Dash Emperor Exhaus and his ultimate plans for both Earth and his Bowzock, as well as a powerful mecha known as Norishiron 12.
Synopsis[]
As the Carranger abuse advantages of their fame, the Bowzock gain assistance from the mysterious Exhaus to defeat them and secretly advance his own twisted scheme for Earth's destruction.
Plot[]
Dappu notes the completion of VRV Robo's maintenance and the need to repair RV Robo's engine; but suddenly backs up when he realizes that Pegasus Thunder is gone! The alien yells out for Kyosuke but discovers Naoki and Natsumi on the roof, the female stating the news is writing good things about the Carranger, Naoki stating that Blue Racer is the most photogenic. Dappu asks about Kyosuke as the duo state he went shopping with Yoko, the two transformed into Red and Pink Racers putting groceries into Pegasus Thunder as Kyosuke states it's useful to use the car for groceries as Yoko reasons because it can fly! Dappu complains that despite it's usefulness, they shouldn't be using Pegasus Thunder for shopping; but Minoru tells the alien to calm while Dappu wonders if the team has gotten too cocky! As the team wonders how, Dappu tells them that Carranger needs to stay on guard to protect the peace; Natsumi states that no matter how much the Bowzock tries, the team wins with them mentioning RV Robo, VRV Robo and Signalman's return; the officer coughing elsewhere realizing he's been mentioned. Dappu complains they can't just rely on that as Minoru tells him to relax while the alien states he has a bad feeling. Natsumi states the Carranger has been defeating the Bowzock regardless and Naoki adds they're going to keep doing so and Minoru adds that Dappu should be confident with the team's winning streak.
On the Baribarian, the Bowzock read the same headlines about being weak, worthless and Gynamo as an incompetent leader; the president angered as he admits they keep losing; Grotch adds in that so far, they've had 1 win, 34 losses and 2 ties. Zonnette contemplates quitting the Bowzock and straightening up and Gynamo wonders if he should open an oden restaurant on Saturn where he'd be complimented for his meals and his history; while Zonnette states she's going back home to be a farmer and deal with the hardship and elements until she cries from the dirt stating she can't.
However, they are interrupted by a strange voice telling the Bowzock they're pathetic for being depressed as the lights throughout the Baribarian go out. Gynamo tells everyone to be quiet as a light shines around the satellite, blinding Zelmoda and Grotch as the mysterious gold-faced giant appears, stating that "no victory will come to a biker gang that has lost it's biker spirit". Gynamo asks who the giant is and he states he's the one who turned Signalman evil and against "Earsh" previously, shocking Zelmoda as the being pronounces himself as "the one who rules over evil in the universe": Reckless Dash Emperor Exhaus, as he materializes around them. Gynamo is impressed while Zelmoda has no idea what a "ruler" is, Grotch stating it's a means that measures things. Exhaus tells the Bowzock to regain confidence and to not forget their proud, reckless souls, Gynamo stating it's nice while Zelmoda feels confidence in his confidence as the leader tells them to defeat the Carranger and blow up "Earsh" like a firework; but Gynamo tells them about their losing record; but Exhaus stating they didn't consistently lose for nothing stating the heroes are human and that if humans keep winning, they become overconfident and they should be hit at that moment. As he states that, a giant book appears that Exhaus claims is the December issue of the magazine "Space Land" that he publishes throughout the universe and comes with a free gift of a model robot that he is giving them to defeat them. Zelmoda wonders how they can beat VRV Robo with a "model robot" as Gynamo orders Grotch to put their new model together. The scientist starts working to put it together with the instructions in Space Land making him excited as he rips the pieces apart and glues it together as Exhaus contemplates he'll use the Bowzock to accomplish his true desire: a terrifying universal highway where you can go as fast as you want and cause as many accidents as you want! To accomplish the highway, he needs the Bowzock to blow "Earsh" up which stands in the way as the giant mocks the planet. As Exhaus contemplates, Grotch completes the new model robot: Norishion 12, emerging within space for their usage and impressing even Zonnette as Exhaus tells the mecha to head out with Zelmoda driving it towards Earth. Without warning, a pin flies towards Grotch but the inventor states he isn't worried about why it's even here as Norishion 12 flies towards it's destination.
On Earth, Signalman is sweeping around Kobaan Base as Norishion 12 lands in front of him, shocking the officer. At the Carranger base, Dappu wonders how to tell the team to not be unprepared as the signal goes off, making him realize something came as he sees Norishion 12's rampage and the team transforms, Kyosuke telling the alien to not worry. In the city, the evil mecha rampages as Sirender drives towards it and transforms, punching the mecha as he tells Norishion 12 to surrender. As it fights, Exhaus advises Zelmoda to immobilize Sirender; making Gynamo upset that he's giving orders ahead of him as he does the same message as Zelmoda states he's doing just that as he keeps punching Signalman's mecha. Norishion 12 rams into Sirender as Signalman prepares the Wappa Gun, only for Zelmoda to activate the Accelerator, making the mecha move so fast it avoids the cuffs and uses the chain to wrap up Sirender before punching it to the ground!
However Norishion is suddenly shot by VRV Robo's V-Gun, allowing the Carranger to get the save, the team telling Signalman that he doesn't need to worry with the team there and Kyosuke stating the battle is as good as won. Zelmoda seems angry but Exhaus tells him to not get riled and let the Carranger be overconfident: heroes that are overconfident are weak. Gynamo tells Zelmoda that, but Grotch tries to tell him of the missing pin, making the president forget what he had to say! Zelmoda tells them he has to pretend to lose as Norishion is hit and thrown down by VRV Robo, Minoru and Natsumi claiming he's too weak and Dappu worried in the base that the team is being overconfident and that carelessness is their worst enemy. Hoping to finish it immediately, the team summons the Victory Twister, making Zelmoda activate the Accelerator again speeding out of the way shocking the Carranger as they wonder how he could win by disappearing, but Yoko uses the Navic Com making the team realize that it's behind them making them turn around to use Victory Twister again...only for Norishion 12 to pull out Sirender as a shield throwing it and Signalman to the ground! The evil mecha soon summons a giant axe that Zelmoda has do the "Norishion Reckless Dash Slash", slicing the Carranger and knocking the Victory Twister out of their hands and making Dappu realize they didn't listen to him as he notices the logo on the new mecha and making him realize it is the Reckless Dash Emperor. Norishion keeps trying to attack but VRV Robo catches the axe only to be hit by chest turrets blasting it to the ground and allowing for the evil mecha to stomp on them! Naoki worries about Signalman taking a shot for them as Kyosuke realizes their overconfidence and the team realizes what idiots they are. Exhaus orders Zelmoda to finish the battle, the axe falling down...until it stops in front of VRV Robo, becoming stuck as Zelmoda pulls on the leaver, pulling on it until the arm hand falls off, shocking the emperor and the Bowzock as Grotch realizes that was the pin that was supposed to hold that arm in place! With an arm off and flailing, Kyosuke states it may be late but they can still handle it as they get Norishion off their body and stand up, only for Zelmoda to state that's all for today, grabbing the arm and axe and fleeing into space as VRV Robo helps Signalman up. In space, Exhaus states he doesn't have the heart to forgive failure as he electrocutes Grotch for messing the construction up, numbing him to the point of fainting.
At Carranger base, Kyosuke admits to Dappu that they were overconfident from all their victories as Yoko states they need to do their duties with the right attitude. But Dappu reveals he realizes that Reckless Dash Emperor Exhaus is working with the Bowzock, shocking the team as the alien states that compared to the Carranger who receive power from the legends of righteousness, Exhaus gains power from the "evil star legend", stating he's a terrifying enemy who saw the Carranger's weakness in it's overconfidence. The alien asks where Minoru, Natsumi and Naoki are afterwards and Kyosuke states they changed their attitudes and went on patrol after the battle, impressing the alien...until they return with 100% fruit juice they bought, confusing the alien as he states the team doesn't understand their lesson at all!
