Ep. 36: Get Ready, Rival! What is Youth!? (荒れるぜライバル!若さってなんだ!? Areru ze Raibaru! Waka-satte Nanda!?) is the thirty-sixth episode of No.1 Sentai Gozyuger. It features the debut of TegaSword GozyuEagle and RyoTegaSword Five Color.
Synopsis[]
Ever since his unresolved showdown with Genji, Kinjiro had been constantly pondering the meaning of "youth." Then, Trump No.1—who inherited the will of their fallen comrade—challenged Kinjiro and the Gozyugers to a hellish Trump No.1 Battle! And there, at the battle venue, was Genji himself...!?
This card battle is a deadly game where defeat means losing everything. Soon, Kinjiro and Genji revert to their original old man forms mid-battle, plunging them into a major crisis!
The once-valiant Genji quickly becomes despondent, muttering, "I can't do anything in this body..." Then, Kinjiro, now in Joji's form, makes an unexpected proposal to Trump No.1!
Plot[]
The Gozyugers received Trump No.1's invitation for a duel
Fire Candle is seen mourning the loss of his friend, Koh Shinsei. He confronts Trump No.1 and tells him to man up for once and go avenge Koh. Fire finally lit, Trump No.1 leaves his slump and tells Fire Candle he'll be Number 1 and leaves. At TegaSword Village, silence is abundant as Kinjiro eats his hardboiled eggs in dejected silence, much to the concern of the others. Saori comes downstairs and also notices the silence, asking Ryugi and the others what happened to Kinjiro. Rikuo explained that he had an altercation with a childhood friend he hasn't seen in a while, with Mashiro collaborating that their duel had no conclusion. The caretaker also feels sympathetic towards Kinjiro as she enters the other room. Just then, a Bridan-branded card comes flying in through the front entrance and lands on Hoeru and Sumino's table, which turned out to be an invitation for a duel by Trump No.1, dueling them for all of their rings on the line, implying that he had Genji with him, much to Kinjiro's horror.
The Gozyugers and Trump No.1 battling out in a game of Old Maid
At a bar, the Gozyugers arrive to see Fire Candle, Trump No.1 and Genji waiting for them, who also had a invite. Kinjiro is surprised to see Genji not being a hostage; the Universe Warrior had come willingly, eager to get their rings. As Trump No.1 introduces himself, Fire Candle briefs the Gozyugers on the game: a death game of Old Maid where losing costs the loser everything. Until a winner is decided, no one can leave in a game of Old Maid. Hoeru, disbelieving of this, tried to leave but is electrocuted by the boobytrapped doorknob. Rikuo helps the electrocuted mutt up and gather around the game table and the Trump No.1 Battle was underway. They decide who goes first with rock-paper-scissors, with the victor being Mashiro, beginning the game by taking one of Kinjiro's cards. The Gozyugers and Trump No.1 began trading cards amongst each other, eventually resulting in Mashiro being the first the final pair. Before he could relish his victory, Trump No.1 steps in, stating that there was a prerequisite to throwing the last pair, a challenge the World-Reformer claimed he could easily do. Fire Candle then showed off what that prerequisite was: the temperature sensitive Mashiro had to eat scalding hot oden to win, and if he cannot clear the final terms, he loses. The general grabbed Mashiro's jaw while he tries to resist and places the oden in his mouth, with the hot piece of food making Mashiro to spit it out, automatically disqualifying him and be absorbed into Trump No.1, forcing the game to keep going. Sumino was the next to get a final pair and her prerequisite is to perform an on-the-spot one-liner, and like Mashiro, her attempt of a joke falls flat, much to her protests at having to do the joke.
Joji and Genji return to their true forms at the wrong time
Hoeru (who had to drank natto juice), Rikuo (making a funny face) and Ryugi (calling a picture of TegaSword an "idiot" 3 times) later failed their final pair prerequisites as well, leaving only Genji and Kinjiro in the game. The two realized that Trump No.1 had been deliberately getting them all pairs from the beginning, as well as rigging the prerequisites into personal attacks that hit the Gozyugers at their personal weaknesses, to which he approves of those allegations. Kinjiro, angered, tells him to pay fairly. Genji and Kinjiro argue on wishing for eternal youth, only stopping when they were forcibly returned to their true ages, much to Fire Candle's surprsie, with no eggs or kanyu drops to help the old men. Joji claims he still has some power left in him, continuing the game. Genji, derived of his kanyu drops, becomes despondent, and loses all hope in himself. Due to his advanced age, Joji struggled to see what card he has, but eventually Genji obtained his final pair, with his prerequisite being he had to do a pop dance for 5 ½ minutes as the music starts. While Genji began to grumble it is something he could never do, Joji steps in and declares that he will substitute for Genji. Fire Candle replies that, while it means that Genji is disqualified anyways, if Joji failed to do it, then the both of them lose. The other Gozyugers within Trump No.1 try to get Joji to stop only for Hoeru to cut off everyone, wholly confident Joji will succeed. Fire Candle starts a stopwatch and lets the music play, with Joji starting to dance, who despite the situation started to enjoy himself. Genji looked on in humbled awe, questioning why Joji was so happy and dancing at his advanced age, flashbacking to the time where they had lost the final baseball match in the summer of their final year in high school, scooping dirt from the pitcher mound. A young Joji had been happy in spite of their loss, whilst a young Genji was the furthest thing, asking Joji how he wasn't frustrated with losing their baseball career. Joji claims there was still college and tells him to not worry, and then exchanged a fist bump.
Genji races to TegaSword Village to get some eggs
Genji then stood up and transforms into RyuRanger, then Changes himself into a playing card and slides through the door gap. Fire Candle assumed that Genji just ran away, resulting in Joji to shout that Genji would never run off. True to Joji's claims, Genji, as RyuRanger, had managed to find and ride on a bicycle, biking all the way from the game place to TegaSword Village. Once he arrives, he startles Saori and exclaimed that Kinjiro was in trouble.
Kinjiro wins with his final pair
Joji ended up clearing Genji's prerequisite challenge, resulting in the very winded elderly man to all but collapse on the couch. Trump No.1 decides to end it one-on-one with Joji, only for Genji to return back in time, throwing to the Gozyuger a Tupperware container with hard-boiled eggs towards Joji, which he demolished the eggs until he finally transforms into Kinjiro again (much to Fire Candle's sheer confusion) and beginning their duel. Enhanced eyesight restored, Kinjiro is able to see which one of Trump No.1 is the Joker and avoids it, obtaining the final pair of the game. When Fire Candle reveals that the prerequisite is to defeat Trump No.1, Genji remarks their sore loser trait as he slashes Trump No.1 across the chest, freeing the imprisoned Gozyugers.
Kinjiro changes into TegaSword GozyuEagle
Kinjiro and Trump No.1 begin their No.1 Battle, which turned into an amateur wrestling match, with the other Gozyugers cheering him on, causing the Combatant Ai and Fire Candle to interfere. TegaSword arrives via the RyoTegaSword, allowing GozyuEagle to transform into TegaSword GozyuEagle. Sometime into the match, Genji teamed up with Kinjiro and both take on Trump No.1, with the battle drawing to a close after Kinjiro uses the Kyoryuger Ring with the RyoTegaSword to use Kyoryu Red's Zyuden Brave Finish and Genji uses the Qi Power Bomber both to finish off Trump No.1 and free the host of the No One, ruling Kinjiro as Trump Number 1.
Trump No.1 and King Candelor combine into Trump King Candelor
With Trump No.1's defeat, Fire Candle calls for King Candelor, claiming him and the Gozyugers cannot co-exist. A weakened Trump No.1 pleads for Fire Candle to make use of his body as he fuses with King Candelor to enhance it into Trump King Candelor, enhancing the Dress Guard's power. Wasting no time, Hoeru summons RyoTegaSword to intercept only to be beaten back by Trump King Candelor, to the point where RyoTegaSword lost his Ryoga Swords to one of the Dress Guard's attacks.
RyoTegaSword Five Color's first appearance
As it seems that Trump King Candelor was gonna win, it gets shot at by the other four core Gozyugers, knocking the Dress Guard down to the floor. Hoeru turns to see Kinjiro leading the 5 weapon-based TegaSword forms to join with Hoeru, resulting in all five weapons combining with RyoTegaSword to create RyoTegaSword 5 Color. With such enhanced power, the Gozyugers destroyed Trump King Candelor with the TegaSword: Sword End finisher, with Fire Candle barely escaping the blade.
Genji and Kinjiro finally making amends
Back at TegaSword Village, Genji is happy that Kinjiro has become the man he aspired to be and that's why he too won't give up and shine just like him. The two of them exchange another fist bump, then Genji forfeits to Kinjiro his Dairanger Ring, turning him back as a old man. Genji states he will be after him until the day he dies, to which Kinjiro accepts and the Gozyugers are relieved at the finale of their rivalry. Genji then invites Kinjiro for a drink, but the deaged old man claims he's now technically a minor. Without missing a beat, Genji then puts Kinjiro into a headlock and demands he returns to an old man so they can drink already.
