Ep. 1: Savior No.1! (救世主ナンバーワン！, Kyūseishu Nanbā Wan!) is the first episode of No.1 Sentai Gozyuger.

Synopsis

Hoeru Tono, who has no family or friends, is living as a "straggler" who gets fired from his part-time job at any time. One day, Fire Candle, the special attack force leader of the evil Buraidan, suddenly appears in town and begins to rampage. His goal is to obtain a "ring" that, when collected, will grant wishes of all kinds.

After being blown away by Fire Candle's attack, Hoeru finds the "ring" in a different space.

There, he hears a mysterious voice that says, "Aim for the top in every battle that the ring brings." He eventually makes a contract with the ring, becomes GozyuWolf, and confronts Buraidan.

The "stragglers" awaken and the Battle for the Rings begins!

Plot

The episode begins with a flashback detailing the events of the Universe War. As the Calamity ravaged upon seeking nothing but destruction, Tega Sword appeared. Using the powers of all previous Sentai robots, Tega Sword destroyed the calamity, leaving behind a graveyard of robots and his petrified form, and scattering the powers in the form of Sentai Rings all around the universe, awaiting a savior.

In the present, a grocery shop worker named Hoeru Tono serves a pair of women, but coldly sends them away. His co-worker, Natsume Tsutsumi, asks from him to show more hospitality towards the customers, or else their boss would fire him, only for Hoeru to let a creepy smile that scare Natsume off his feet. Suddenly, an armed thief appears in the store and attempts to rob their boss, taking a sausage and biting from it. When he finds it too hot, he threatens Natsume and blames him for it, but Hoeru, with the discarded sausage in his hand, calls the robber his prey and uses the sausage to shield himself from the robber's knife, spraying its juice into his eye. Hoeru then bite his hand and drops him on the ground. As a reward for himself, he takes three sausages, much to the chagrin of his boss, who fires him on the spot.

At his apartment in the Half Century coffee shop while writing an application for another job, Hoeru suddenly hears a voice calling "Number One". Hoeru goes to the main floor and meets the coffee owner, Saori Iijima, and her son Aoi. While fooling around with the latter, Saori notices the application paper in Hoeru's hand and realizes that he was fired from yet another job. She tells him to not forget to pay his rent before he goes outside. While walking to his job interview, Hoeru is confronted by three gang members, one of them injured. They're mad at him for causing this, but he ignores them and heads for his job. Other criminals arrive, and one of them threatens to harm Saori and Aoi if Hoeru won't behave. The gangsters then beat him up and tear his application papers. Natsume finds him and asks him if he's okay, telling him that he should avoid reckless fights like this, as there are people who would be sad if something happens to him. Hoeru tells him that he's a loner, and no one would worry about him.

Meanwhile, in the Buraidan castle at No One World, the Buraidan executive Fire Candle walks to the Super Robot hangar, knocking on an Combatant Aryee's helmet on his way, and boards his personal Robot, King Candelor. He's contacted by another Buraidan member, Bouquet, who asks from him to gather the Sentai Rings before Tega Sword awakens, but asks from him to avoid making commotion. Fire Candle just laughs before travelling to the human world.

At a park, Hoeru thanks Natsume for a hamburger he bought him and promises to pay back for it. Natsume thanks him for protecting him from the thief, but asks him why was he working at the shop at the first place. Hoeru says that he needs the money, and Natsume tells him that he's working to save enough money to put a musical concert together. He says he want to become the Number One musician and deliver songs to the people. He says that wishes and dreams are important as they give worth to life, and asks Hoeru if he's got any wishes. Hoeru suddenly remembers a distant memory of a mysterious woman calling him, but says that he has no wishes.

Natsume changes into Kuwagata Ohger

Suddenly, King Candelor appears out of a portal that spawns in a Ferris wheel. Fire Candle seems to recognize this world and begins to attack using King Candelor, while Combatant Aryee are spawned from various portals. Fire Candle says to the people that he came to make sure that the human world turns alright, but struggles to find the right word to describe himself. He then remembers and calls himself the Number One Savior. Witnessing the chaos, Natsume realizes that now its his time and picks up the King-Ohger Sentai Ring out of his guitar case. To Hoeru's surprise, he inserts it into a silver-colored Tega Sword and transforms into Kuwagata Ohger. Natsume then begins fighting the Combatant Aryee and destroys them with a finisher. Fire Candle is angry at him for destroying the Combatant Aryee and begins using King Candelor to attack him. Hoeru recklessly rushes to the mecha and is attack, but is suddenly transported into a wormhole as he hears the mysterious voice calling "Number One" once again.

Hoeru finds himself in a mysterious cave and notices the petrified Tega Sword. He suddenly gets flashes of the Universe War running in his head, as a group of Combatant Aryee appear in the cave. Their commander picks up a Sentai Ring placed in an altar and puts it on his finger, but is suddenly warped out of existence. Bouquet arrives and warns the Combatant Aryee of misusing the ring's power. She greets Hoeru and introduces herself to him before asking from him to return the ring to protect both of their worlds. Hoeru realizes that the ring would give him power and decides to keep it, against Bouquet's wishes. Hoeru says that the only thing he cares about is the money he still owes to Natsume before placing the ring on his finger. He's suddenly transported away.

Hoeru meets the Tega Sword for the first time

Hoeru appears in a black void. The same mysterious voice from earlier tells him that they've now made a contact. A giant mecha appears and introduces himself as Tega Sword, who'll grant the wish of whoever gathers all of the Sentai Rings. He asks what is Hoeru's wish, but he says that all of his wishes have shattered. A flashback shows a young Hoeru with a mysterious woman who tells him that he should soften his heart and find himself a wish. Tega Sword tells him that he's yet to learn the truth about himself, and tells him that he must endure the oncoming battles to become the Number One, so that one day he'll find his wish and make it come true. Hoeru remembers Natsume's word and decides to agree to the contact simply to kill some time now that he has no job. He takes the Tega Sword Red ring, GozyuWolf ring and golden Tega Sword Changer before appearing back in the human world and letting out an ear-piercing howl that disturbs even Fire Candle.

GozyuWolf is born

Fire Candle is shocked that a human too the Tega Sword ring, and Hoeru challenges him to a battle. He inserts the Tega Sword ring into his Tega Sword, which summons the now-revived Tega Sword mecha. Hoeru is suddenly transported into a boxing ring with Fire Candle. The two introduce themselves, with Fire Candle saying that he's undefeatable, while Hoeru says that he's looking for a job and a dream. His outfit suddenly changes, and the two begin fighting via their respective mecha. Hoeru calls Fire Candle his prey and begins fighting him. He manages to knock down Candelor before finishing it off, to Fire Candle's shock. Candle screams one last time before being ejected back to Number One World. Hoeru realizes that the people are still in trouble because of the Combatant Aryee. Realizing he can't use Tega Sword to fight the normal-sized enemies, he uses his GozyuWolf ring to transform into GozyuWolf for the first time.

As Hoeru is fighting the Combatant Aryee, the four other people who made a contact with Tega Sword see their transformation rings shaking. Hoeru claims himself to be the new Number One Savior as he defeats the last of the Combatant Aryee, with Kinjiro and Sumino deciding to act.

While Natsume is playing his guitar, Hoeru comes to meet him and return the money that he owes him. Natsume notices the GozyuWolf ring on his finger and asks him why he's taken it when he doesn't have a wish. Hoeru tells him that he simply decided to become the Number One. Natsume is disheartened to hear this and transforms into Kuwagata Ohger to attack Hoeru, who transforms as well, as Rikuo and Ryugi watch the unfurling events in the background.
