Synopsis[]
Once upon a time, there were five great nations, Shugodom, Nkosopa, Ishabana, Gokkan, and Tofu. Each country had its own ruler, who was allowed to fight by arming oneself in the form of a warrior with one's sword. According to tradition, it was said that the Earth Empire Bugnarok, an enemy supposed to have been defeated once 2,000 years ago, would rise again this year, and they were to fight against it. The rulers of the five countries had gathered in Shugodom, the most powerful country in the world, to form an alliance in preparation for the return of Bugnarok...
Plot[]
- "Once upon a time, 2,000 years ago in the world of Chikyu, an evil force called the Bug Naraku invaded and attempted to wipe out humanity. Five brave soldiers appeared and united the powerful Shugods into the guardian spirit King-Ohger to defeat them. Upon victory, the five became kings and built the world into five kingdoms to rule. But, a prophecy foretells that the Bug Naraku shall return 2,000 years later to finish their mission of annihilating humanity, and on that day..."
- ―The mysterious man's Narration[src]
The kingdom of Shugodom is holding the Signatory Ceremony, a great celebration of the five royals uniting their forces into one to defend the citizens from the Bug Naraku. While his people sing and dance below, King Rcules Husty stands outside his castle and eagerly awaits the signing of the Quintet Alliance treaty.
In Ishabana, Queen Hymeno Ran is urged by her servant Sebastian to be ready to depart for Shugodom, but the spoiled queen says she has not finished applying her makeup to look her best for such an occasion and what she wants is most important.
In Tofu, King Kaguragi Dybowski celebrates his people's good harvest, who thank him once again for his guidance on farming the land. Kaguragi is hoping that the prophecy of the Bug Naraku's return is incorrect so he and everyone in his kingdom can continue to enjoy the peace and prosperity of their land.
In the snowy kingdom of Gokkan, Rita Kaniska's servant Morfonia asks if such a prophecy is even true as they depart. Rita says it does not matter, they must stand resolute in their duties, boarding God Papillon to head to Shugodom.
In the technological kingdom of Nkosopa, King Yanma Gast's aide Shiokara pleads for him not to start a fight when they meet with Rcules as they depart.
All four arrive at Shugodom and the royals and their servants head in procession with their Shugods to the castle as the crowds cheer. Rcules's servants Douga and Boshimar greet the royals, with Hymeno complaining that she had to walk to the castle instead of going there directly. Boshimar says it is a gesture to the people, to make their regal presence known so that they can inspire hope to the populace. As they enter the elevator at the gates, Yanma feels uneasy about what they are partaking in.
In the village below, some orphan children are playing pretend with Gira, the kids being the brave heroes of the kingdoms while Gira plays the vile "king of evil". His "hostage" Kogane does a less than convincing job of being terrified, but they continue their game until the King's tax collector comes and demands a neighbor to pay their dues. The neighbors claim they already paid their taxes for the season, and the neighbors now have no money to pay them. Gira distracts the tax collectors long enough for the children to pelt the tax collector away with rocks.
While the neighbor and his wife thanks Gira for his help, he worries one day he will be captured and the kids will then be without a home. Gira believes that King Rcules is still a good man and is just looking out for his kingdom, that way he and the people in this village can focus on "helping those within their reach".
At the meeting, the five royals discuss the coming war against the Bug Naraku. Rita states that the Quintet Alliance Treaty is to put the need of protecting their world above all else, including politics and boundaries. Rcules vows to risk his life to bring forth the guardian spirit and protect Chikyu, urging everyone to take their OhgerCaliburs to signify their agreement to join the treaty.
Yanma refuses the treaty due to his suspicion of Rcules wanting to be the commanding authority and in control of King-Ohger. The others are disappointed, but Yanma insists on knowing why Rcules should be leader. Rcules says that Shugodom is the kingdom where it all began and without God Kuwagata forming the body, there would be no King-Ohger. Yanma didn't want a history lesson and reminds him that he converted the Shugods to electricity when they would not move for two millennia.
Kaguragi fails to see the problem with the Alliance, and Yanma claims Rcules is using the prophecy as an excuse to execute a monopolization of power. Rcules denies this, only saying he wants peace for Chikyu, then accuses Yanma of being the one lusting for more power. Yanma proclaims he will not join, but Rita stops him from leaving as Kaguragi insists that they at least join to protect the people. Yanma tells him to shut up and calls them a "slack jawed tanuki", storming out of the throne room.
At the orphanage, the kids complain about not having enough to eat, with one wishing for "rainbow jururia". Gira promises to the children that someday they will have some, though they are interrupted by the ground shaking and the sound of a loud explosion. The Bug Naraku have appeared, an army of soldiers and giants bombard and breach the kingdom's walls by smashing them. Their evil king, Desnarak VIII, declares that humanity shall perish.
Gira tries to get the children to safety while King Rcules raises his sword and rallies his troops and the other royals. He declares that the tragic day has come and may the Shugods protect them all from the invaders. Rita, Hymeno, and Kaguragi transform to lead the soldiers into the fight as the Bug Naraku destroy more of their fortifications.
While trying to escape the carnage, Gira is flung back by an explosion and Kogane is severely injured by falling debris. Hymeno assures Gira she will take care of her, defending her and the townsfolk from the Bug Naraku soldiers. She ponders where Rcules is, as he should have joined the battle with them.
Gira decides to personally visit the king, breaking into the castle as most have committed to focusing on the attack to get to the throne room. He finds Rcules casually sitting on his throne, seemingly unconcerned with what is going on outside.
Rcules reveals his true colors, saying that the people dying out there are a tragic but meaningful sacrifice. Once the chaos ends, he will invade the kingdom of Nkosopa in a declaration of war for Yanma's refusal of the treaty and force the other kingdoms into unifying under his rule. He claims it is in the name of justice and peace can only come about through absolute power, he will go into battle and slaughter as many enemies as needed to unify the world under the banner of Shugodom.
Gira is outraged his king would just ignore the needs of his people and the invading Bug Naraku just to start a war, a true king would put his people first before everything else. Rcules says people are simply a means to an end to be used, and declares he is the kingdom. Furious, Gira charges at Rcules but fails to attack him, though manages to pry his royal cloak off him. Rcules stops his servants from attacking Gira, but suddenly notices that his OhgerCalibur is gone. Gira begins to stand up with the OhgerCalibur in hand. Outside, Yanma attempts to awaken God Kuwagata to no avail.
Back in the castle, Gira implores Rcules to use his sword to help after he declares that only the king can use the OhgerCalibur, not a peasant. Rcules also adds that by pointing a sword at him, Gira has committed treason against his home and will be hunted as an enemy of the world. Gira cries at first but then smiles and accepts that fate, calling his king's "justice" stupid, revolting and cruel.
If sacrificing children, men and women is Rcules's justice, then Gira will be a king of evil and shatter that justice, wrapping Rcules' cloak onto himself. Gira says he will show no mercy to him and spare no effort or intent on destroying his rule and conquering the world. This causes God Kuwagata to respond to Gira, awakening it and teleporting him to the giant beetle which lands in the castle courtyard.
The God Kuwagata says in his own way that he likes the young lad and Gira says likewise as an enraged Rcules witnesses Gira become Kuwagata Ohger. Gira then calls forth the Shugods to combine from inside God Kuwagata, with the other Rangers confused as to what is happening. He forms the Ohsama Gattai King-Ohger and fights, but has trouble with all the castle spires and towers in the way. As a result, he separates the mecha to shove his target with God Kuwagata into a more open area. He then immobilizes the giant monster with God Kumo's spider webs and destroys it with a leaping downward sword slash.
As the sun sets, the mysterious man narrates that this is the story of kings and a man who would become one.
Gira jumps down and detransforms, raising the OhgerCalibur and declares for the good of everyone that he will conquer this world. He then is surrounded by King Rcules' soldiers, who have been ordered to capture the "rebel" and brought forth to the corrupt king to be executed. Gira simply smiles...
