Synopsis

In order to combat the rising threat of CRIME, four people are recruited by ISSIS to become the super-cyborg squadron J.A.K.Q..

Plot

At an unknown island, Earth Defense Force 7th Fleet nuclear aircraft carrier was sunk by mysterious planes. Tokyo Boss informs Iron Claw, the leader of Crime, that Crime Fortress Island was cleared of hostiles. Crime plans to turn Tokyo into a city of crime, but unfortunately encountered setbacks due to the actions of ISSIS and Commander Daisuke "Joker" Kujirai. Iron Claw orders the deployment of Devil Killer.

A team from ISSIS was sent to a warehouse to investigate smuggled goods. They arrive at the scene, but was ambushed and everyone was killed by Devil Killer. Worried about Crime's uprising, Commander Daisuke holds a meeting with Captain Robert, and organizes the formation of JAKQ, a task force of cyborgs to combat the villainous organization.

He first recruits Goro Sakurai, an equestrian rider, but the latter refuses at first as he wants to focus on training for the next Olympic Games. Commander Daisuke tries to convince him, but he still refused. Kujirai then recruits Ryu Higashi, promising to clear his name for murder. Later that night, Karen Mizuki and her father were celebrating the latter's 25th year as a detective. On their way home, they were injured in a car accident that was caused by Crime. Goro shows up and rescues Karen, but her father dies from his injuries. Kujirai recruits her to join J.A.K.Q. The former then finds the body of the original recruit, Bunta Daichi, who was killed in an submersible accident. The four recruits undergoes Cyborg conversion surgery, including Goro, having changed his mind after rescuing Karen.

The team was sent to recover gold that was stolen during Crime's crime spree. Using the Sky Ace and their cyborg technology, they managed to track down the stolen gold easily. Transforming into JAKQ, they battle the Crimers and successfully destroy Devil Killer with JAKQ Covack.

Notes

  • Viewership: 13.6%
  • Aside from being the first episode of J.A.K.Q., it is also the first Sentai episode to air on TV Asahi, formerly known as NET, after it was renamed on April 1, 1977.
  • If you look closely at the cards, particularly the one used to represent Goro Sakurai as Spade Ace, they were made by "Nintendo"; the company was notable as a card-manufacturing company prior to becoming more famous for video games in the 1980s and beyond.

Oosugi & Haruta as ISISS officers

Errors

  • As Sky Ace is preparing to launch, wires can be seen holding it in the air.
  • When the team arrives, the building in the background appears out of nowhere.
  • The cracks on Iron Claw's baton can already be seen when he bends and breaks it.
