A Trap! Joh's Beloved Brain Beast (罠! 丈の愛した頭脳獣 Wana! Jō no Ai Shita Zunōjū) is the eighteenth episode of Choju Sentai Liveman. It involves the evolution of Doctor Mazenda as she abandons her loving heart and the Brain Beast formed in the process.
Synopsis[]
Jou falls for a mysterious girl created from the remnants of Mazenda's loving heart into a Brain Beast.
Plot[]
Bias calls Mazenda to the bridge, where he has discovered a bracelet trinket Mazenda had been keeping in a jar. He questions why she has kept this keepsake even as she has reputedly thrown away her humanity to become a cyborg. Mazenda tells him she's working on a project to defeat the Livemen with love. This satisfies Bias, but he still drops and shatters the jar.
On Earth, Jou is skateboarding and showing off some tricks to some kids; A kid attempts to copy his scheme but fails. Mazenda appears and helps the kid up. Jou reports Mazenda's sudden appearance to the other Livemen, who tell them they're on the way.
Next, Jou watches Mazenda help an older lady up out of the subway and help another person in a fountain. Jou begins to express doubts about the identity of Mazenda or Rui.
A woman's baby carriage goes rolling down a parkway. Both Jou and Rui leap in to save the child. Seeing Rui cry, Jou believes here to be a coincidental doppelganger. The two go to a park to hang out and frolick in the flowers. He introduces himself and she introduces herself as Rei. Mazenda watches from the foliage, and confirms that "Rei" is actually her creation Twin Brain.
Jou and Rei continue hanging out, with Jou attempting to impress her by doing tricks, buying her a necklace and then buying her some ice cream. Mazenda slaps Rei and chastises her, telling her to lead Jou back into their trap, but disappearing as Jou returns with their ice cream.
Next, Rei leads Jou to "her house" by the beachside. She tries to give hints towards her identity - such that her name is Rei (冷) for cold - before tearfully running off into "her house". Jou follows her inside and falls into Mazenda's trap while Rei cries and begs him for forgiveness. Mazenda arrives and congratulates Rei, before shocking her and turning her into the monstrous true Twin Brain form. She drops the heart necklace Jou just bought her down into the trap. Jou looks up to see Mazenda and Twin Brain.
Mazenda explains the next stage of her plan - she will infuse Jou with liquid explosives to make him a human bomb, before returning him to Gran Tortoise to blow up the Livemen. However, as Twin Brain begins the infusion, Red Falcon kicks them out of the way and directs Blue Dolphin to save Jou. Blue Dolphin jumps down and back out of the hole, saving Jou. Red Falcon covers them with Live Blaster fire as they escape.
In her front garden, Mazenda attacks them with Jinmmer and her Elbow GUn barrage. Jou transforms into Yellow Lion and attempts to duel Mazenda. However, Twin Brain uses his ropes to attack Red Falcon and Blue Dolphin. Red Falcon prepares to finish off Twin Brain with the Biomotion Buster, but Yellow Lion refuses.
Back at Gran Tortoise, the Livemen discuss with Colon. Yusuke explains that they can only finish off Brain Beasts with the Biomotion Buster. Jou knows this, but explains Twin Brain is actually a girl named Rei, like Rui but kind. Jou believes Mazenda turned a human Rei into a Brain Beast. Yusuke doubts this, but Jou is resolute to save Rei.
Rei looks out over the sea. From the trap house, Mazenda watches her and soliloquizes on her abilities to feel love and kindness, but is interrupted by Doctor Kemp. Kemp calls Rei useless, and tells Mazenda to destroy that disguised part of Twin Brain to focus on the violent aspect instead - which he says is something she should do with herself, too. As she hesitates, Kemp accuses her of wanting her humanity back. She storms off. Ashura observes from the shadows.
Jou meets Rei on a beach. He asks her to run far from Mazenda's reach to live a life in peace. Rei explains she looks like Rui Senda because she was created from the kindness and love imbued within Rui Senda's DNA Chaos.
In a flashback, we learn that Gash created Rei for Bias and Mazenda out of the fallen, shattered heart/necklace trinket at the beginning of the episode.
Megumi and Yusuke arrive. Jou accepts Rei's story as the truth. Rei does not want to become Twin Brain and fight Jou again. Jou returns the pendant he bought her, telling her that he believes in her ability to be kind. Rei collapses, crying and clutching the gift.
Mazenda arrives with the Jinmmer. Jou rushes her to safety as Yusuke and Megumi fight the Jinmmer, but Mazenda catches the two lovers off guard. Mazenda shocks Rei (while Jou pleads with Mazenda's remaining humanity. Jou and Rei take turns sacrificing themselves. Rei bids her farewell as she ultimately turns back into Twin Brain. Mazenda laughs to hide her tears. Ashura catches onto this facade.
Jou transforms and duels Mazenda. Red Falcon and Blue Dolphin transform, becoming spheres of colored energy to ward off the Jinmmer before attacking Twin Brain. Twin Brain attacks them with a fireball, and Yellow Lion rushes to their aid. Yellow Lion hits Twin Brain down with a Lion Punch. The Livemen use the Biomotion Buster to defeat Twin Brain.
Gash revives Twin Brain with Giga Phantom. Live Robo appears on the battlefield fully-formed and defeats Twin Brain with a Super Live Crash.
The Livemen make a crude grave on the beach where Rei's gifted necklace hangs from a piece of driftwood. Ashura takes it back to Mazenda.
While Jou mourns on the beach, Yusuke and Megumi question why Mazenda held onto her kindness and love even this long. Megumi doesn't want to believe it was just to make Twin Brain. Jou sees Rei in the waves, and rushes out to frolick with her, just as they did in the flowers at the park., but she soon disappears. The narrator explains that Jou still hopes Rui can love just like Rei can, and Jou vows to meet Rei again.
