Romance Blooms at the Southern Sea (南海に咲くロマン Nankai ni Saku Roman) is the eighteenth episode of Denshi Sentai Denziman.
Synopsis[]
Akira must protect a friend of hers who is suddenly changed by a Vader Monster into a legendary creature that can only live in the water!
Plot[]
General Hedrer explains to Queen Hedrian that the humans have a legend of "sea people" who lived in the ocean. He further explains that this is not a myth — the sea people are real, and by using the Vader Monster Kaigalar's magic flute, they can transform the descendants of these sea people into their true forms and then control them.
Meanwhile, Akira Momoi runs into an old classmate of hers, Yotaro Umihara, who considers moving to the South Sea for business.
On the streets, Kaigalar strikes, transforming three humans into Gill-Men. One of the Gill-Men is accidentally drenched in blue paint by a scared maintenance worker. The Denzimen are thus able to follow his trail.
While Akira catches up with Yotaro, the Denziman confirm that the victims possess a pattern — each of the victims (Utsumi, Kaibe, Umino) has a kanji relating to "sea" in their names. Projecting this pattern forward, they expect Yotaro Umihara will also be transformed into a Gill-Man.
Yotaro Umihara and Akira Momoi go on a date on the lake, with the weak Yotaro Umihara rowing a boat. Kaigalar arrives, and plays his song, transforming Yotaro Umihara into a Gill-Man and then using all four Gill-Men to try and drown Akira. Luckily, the other Denzimen arrive on the scene and temporarily defeat the Gill-Men, saving Akira.
Kaigalar is disciplined for his failures. He works with General Hedrer to attack the city's industrial district, but this plan immediately fails when three of the Gill-Men immediately perish as a result of pollution. The only surviving Gill-Man is Yotaro Umihara, who is too weak to swim effectively, and so the Vader Clan abandons their plan of using the Gill-Men to destroy humanity. Kaigalar is sent to battle the Denzimen outright. They defeat his giant form using Daidenzin.
The Denzimen meet Yotaro Umihara, still transformed into a Gill-Man, at the beach. Akira and Yotaro trade goodbyes, with Yotaro preparing to swim off for the south seas as he had originally planned before. As he swims off into the sunset, the show's narrator confirms that this is the last of the Sea People.
