The Letter of the Jiang Shi (キョンシーの手紙 Kyonshī no Tegami) is the sixteenth episode of Choju Sentai Liveman.
Synopsis[]
Yusuke returns to Academia to retrieve love letters he left that are being used for jumping, zombie-like apparitions of his fellow students.
Plot[]
Jou and Yusuke are driving alongside the beach when they pass two girls in bikinis. Jou excitedly switches off the car and asks if the girls would like to grab drinks. Yusuke pulls his ear, admonishing him and reminding him they're on patrol. The girls are left offended while Jou pleads for forgiveness. Yusuke tells him he gets too excited over girls, and that it's only a bad thing because he has poor taste in women.
As they drive on, they discover the dead of Academia have been revived as jumping zombies (jiang shi). Jou and Yusuke attempt to fight them off. Yusuke pulls a note from one of their heads, which he finds out is a love letter. Blue Dolphin arrives on the Moto Dolphin. Megumi and Jou find him and ask what he's got, but he runs off with it. The letter is one of his love letters he wrote when he first got accepted to Academia. He burns it so the others won't mock it, and cites it as the worst mistake of his life. He soon realizes that if he found it on an Academia Island ghost, his other contemporaneous love letters might similarly turn up, so he vows to return to Academia.
In a flashback, he remembers sneaking into the Science Girls Dormitory to hide the letter in a locker four years ago. Reading some of the other notes, he pieces together fragments of a plan. Looking over to the graveyard, he sees Doctor Obular using Plasma Brain to revive the souls of the dead as his jiangshi army.
Jusuke curses Obular, which alerts him. Obular is confused why Yusuke is here, but pieces it together when he reads one of the love letters attached to one of the jiangshi.
Meanwhile, Colon, Jou and Megumi wonder where Yusuke is. Megumi hypothesizes that Yusuke has returned to Academia, the source of the jiangshi.
Megumi and Jou arrive on the island. Obular taunts Yusuke with his love letter, forcing him to choose between chasing down the love letter (to stop his embarrassment) or to reunite with his friends. He chooses the former. Obular reads the note in front of them all anyways, revealing that Yusuke's love letter was written for... Rui Senda, a.k.a. Doctor Mazenda. In a flashback, it's revealed that Rui privately met with him just to reject and humiliate him. While Mazenda, Megumi, and Jou all make fun of Yusuke and Yusuke laments his previous failed romance, Obular congratulates and supports him, and extends an invitation to Volt. Megumi and Jou support Yusuke, telling him everyone makes mistakes in their youth. They transform, dispel the Jiangshi according to tradition (pretending to jump and mimic them), and then defeat Plasma Brain with the Biomotion Buster. They use the Live Robo to defeat the revived, giant-sized Plasma Brain again.
The Livemen then pray and mourn for their departed comrades at the Academia cemetery. Yusuke remarks that the Doctors Kemp, Mazenda, and Obular are the ones who made true "mistakes" with their youth.
