The Signalman Who Came From Space (宇宙から来た信号野郎 Uchū Kara Kita Shingō Yarō) is the twelfth episode of Gekisou Sentai Carranger. It is the opening of a two-part story introducing Signalman, a peculiar police officer hero who arrives on Earth.

Synopsis[]

Signalman, an officer from Planet Police, comes to Earth to take charge in taking down Gynamo and the Bowzock...while simultaneously causing nothing but problems for the Carranger.

Plot[]

Minoru returns to Pegasus Garage to see all of the team busy in some facet or another; he asks where Kyosuke is but no one knows where he is, Natsumi accusing him of taking a nap somewhere; Minoru state he got an order for tires but doesn't want to carry the heavy stuff. Elsewhere, Kyosuke is napping as Natsumi had claimed in a field as Zelmoda appears with a vase of Wumpers, claiming they were in there for a week and are starting to smell like mold! He orders the minions to dry out in the sun as Kyosuke notices them, making him become Red Racer as Zelmoda and the Wumpers appreciate the nice weather, making Red Racer appear before them and forcing them up to fight him off. Kyosuke accuses the Wumper and Zelmoda for ruining his nap as the Bowzock general prepares to strike him down.

However without warning, a police siren echoes through the warehouse they were fighting in as a mysterious figure on a motorbike draws near. Zelmoda knows who it is immediately as the figure approaches, lighting up with a traffic signal as it reveals itself as a robot-like being in blue, shocking the Bowzock general! Kyosuke wonders who he is as the strange figure announces he's here to crack down on the Universal Reckless Driving Tribe Bowzock causing space traffic wars as a "space sheriff of Planet Police". His solo assignment: obey the traffic rules of justice! His name: Signalman Police Coburn! Zelmoda orders the Wumpers to attack Signalman as he activates his Signizer to Battle Mode and fights off the minions with ease, withstanding their attacks. Zelmoda attacks the officer with similar no effect as he places Signizer into Gun Mode and fires his Smash Beam towards the Bowzock forces, the hero and Red Racer acknowledging his strength. Zelmoda forces the Wumpers back into their vase and rides away swearing vengeance on Signalman; Kyosuke states that the officer should leave the rest to him as he pursues them with his Speeder Machine; but Signalman pulls him over for driving over the speed limit! Kyosuke asks about the Bowzock, but Signalman asks how he knows about the Bowzock threat, Red Racer stating it's part of his job and that he is a Carranger trying to stop them. Signalman has no idea who the Carranger are as Kyosuke tries to explain what it they are and that their planet is "Earth", not "Earsh" as both Signalman and the Bowzock have been calling it. Kyosuke tries to force Signalman to call their planet "Earth", but the officer takes the accusation personally and wonders if the Ranger wants to actually fight and wonders who authorized the Carranger to protect this planet, which Kyosuke states they're just trying to fight for the planet's peace. Signalman states that amateurs like the Carranger need to sit back and eat Cantonese noodles, making Red Racer mad before the other Carranger show up to restrain him, making Signalman see them as Red Racer's allies while Yoko states that he's the one Dappu was talking about.

On the Baribarian, Gynamo realizes that Signalman, the strictest enforcer of traffic rules, has come to Earth for solo assignment. Zonnette asks if Signalman really is a jerk which Gynamo acknowledges, stating he's the biggest jerk in the universe who wants to terminate all the Bowzock, remembering how he attacked them with his violation stickers, driving through space as he attached them on their forces in the past and locking them away in prison for drunk driving and other traffic violations; even Gynamo faced issue when he was speeding at a million miles per hour only for Signalman to bother him for not wearing a seat belt! Gynamo took offense prior for being accused of such a minor violation; not wanting a friendly reminder and never forgetting the embarrassment he was given as he crumbles up his flag; Zonnette excited that the leader is finally acting like a Bowzock! Gynamo states he's been waiting for the day he could fight Signalman as the team gets excited as he tells Grotch to summon UU Wurin, a particular Gorotsuki they've been grooming for this very day. Grotch claims to get away due to the danger as he unveils a particularly violent Gorotsuki creature he gives a traffic signal that it rips to shreds with his teeth, Gynamo ordering it to eat Signalman.

Having set up his Kobaan Base, Signalman stretches his arms and stands in wait his duty to begin. Back at Pegasus Garage, Kyosuke still feels offended by Signalman's insults and calls him a jerk for what he said, telling him to eat TIanjin Noodles; Dappu tries to tell Kyosuke to calm down, but misstates his comment saying he should "pill" instead of "chill". The alien states there are a lot of "squares" in the space police, but Kyosuke feels offended that he was trying to be polite but the officer was condescending instead! Minoru tells him to calm and give tires to a customer to relax.

Elsewhere, a bored Signalman is approached by an old woman asking for directions which he helps to direct and lead to her destination. Kyosuke goes to deal with the tires, but sees Signalman helping the old woman, telling the Carranger that he's there through a "Signalman Alert" confusing the others. As Signalman finishes with the woman, a bolt of lightning strikes him from the sky throwing him down as Gynamo and the Bowzock show up, the old woman revealing herself as a White Wumper who immediately falls down with weak knees. Gynamo states that they're going to party due to Signalman's assignment to Earth which the officer accepts. Elsewhere, the Carranger join up and find Signalman fighting the Wumper, Minoru asks Kyosuke to join in the battle as the others state they should as well, the five charging to combat as they prepare to fight; but Signalman immediately stops them, telling them he's going to eradicate the Bowzock and their Space Traffic Wars by himself! The team is confused as Signalman creates a line telling the Carranger to not cross it; telling them to enjoy his "artistic way of fighting". As he returns to the battle, the Carranger are helpless as Signalman uses his Signal Kick to crush the Wumpers and the Rangers become bored and Green Racer tells the others to go home. Zelmoda soon orders the Wumpers to send out chains and an electric shock paralyzing Signalman long enough for UU Wurin to be sent to eat him, the creature firing eye beams to knock him to the ground! UU Wurin is then sent to finish him off; Signalman states he won't be defeated like this as he summons his whistle, paralyzing the Gorotsuki as his bike drives towards him; Signalman activates a button that fires a beam towards UU Wurin and frees him from the chains, then boards the bike as he declares his deathblow: the Signal Shoot, where he shoots his Signizer on his bike at the Wumpers before departing his bike and using his Heat Beam to knock UU Wurin down!

Fearing their defeat, Grotch feeds UU Wurin Imocho imo youkan, Signalman yelling at it for breaking the law for growing giant! Gynamo yells at the Gorotsuki to eat Signalman, making it pick up the officer and draw it towards him. The Carranger return saying they can't just leave him like that; but Signalman yells at them for not doing anything! Kyosuke calls the officer selfish for the accusation as he fights to not be eaten until RV Robo suddenly appears to face it down, relieving Signalman. The robot and the Gorotsuki fight in hand-to-hand combat, the team helping Signalman escape UU Wurin's grasp before they kick it down, use the Plugnado Spark and ultimately the RV Sword Gekisou Cut to stop it, forcing the Gorotsuki to withdraw and even UU Wurin, having survived the attack, to run away.

After the battle, Signalman talks to the Carranger stating they need to work together to fight the Bowzock together, forcing them to forgive him for his actions. Pink Racer returns a dropped Signal Whistle to the officer, which he claims is important to him; he then notices the Speeder Machines performing a parking violation, the team forced to ride away before he can issue them tickets!

  • Eyecatch
  • Viewership: 4.5%
  • While Signalman is not the first Sixth or Extra Hero in Sentai, this is the first time that one has a theme song which is played during their first battle, Shirobai Yarou Signalman; this will become a standard Sentai tradition for many Sixth and Extra Rangers from this point.
