Don 5: Holed Up Dog (たてこもったイヌ Tatekomotta Inu) is the fifth episode of Avataro Sentai Donbrothers. It features the debut of the DonZenkaiOh Robotaro Gear, and Tsubasa Inuzuka's first on-screen transformation into Inu Brother.
Synopsis[]
Tsubasa Inuzuka, who is being chased by the police for innocent charges calls out to Haruka Kitou, who is currently in front of the closed Polar Bear Express. Tsubasa wanted to take her as a hostage and run away?! As for Haruka, she wants to experience "burning love" for her new manga and decides to take his offer.
Plot[]
The episode begins with a flashback to Haruka and Shinichi’s attempt to attack Don Momotaro last episode, with Tsuyoshi and Tsubasa getting hit by the former’s gun blasts and teleporting out and Shinichi getting struck a few times by the ZanglaSword. Haruka hesitates to fight any further, wanting Taro to stop, but he angrily says she isn’t good enough and strikes her with his blade.
Haruka manages to escape to the real world and is mulling over Taro’s behavior, wanting to give him a stern talking to.
Elsewhere, Tsubasa Inuzuka is being chased by a police officer. He narrates that he is believed to be a natural born criminal by many but this isn’t true. He confesses he isn’t an angel, but aside from traffic violations he was a decent person. He is going to keep running as he is a wanted fugitive who is innocent. Running from the cops into a parking garage, he pulls out his sunglasses only to find there is no exit and drops his sunglasses as he attempts to flee.
Haruka once again goes to Shirokuma Express, only to see a note that informs the public that they will reopen on April 4th. She is disappointed, but wonders about Kiji Brother and Inu Brother as she doesn’t know their identities yet. She doesn’t have a clue where to look for them, when suddenly Tsubasa runs and tries to open the door. He hides in the doorway and gives the police officers chasing him the slip. Tsubasa sees Haruka and begs for her help, grabbing her and dragging her to a window in the alley, which he breaks open. The police hear the glass shatter and search for the source of the noise.
The two enter Shirokuma and Haruka turns a light on, inquiring what Tsubasa is doing. He cons her after turning a light off, stating he has fallen for her and goes into poetic romance to sway her. Haruka finds this romance sudden but sees it as opportunity to make a new manga, with a flashback showing her editor rejecting a basketball manga she made called Princess of Basketball. The editor wants a manga that surpasses First Love Hero in quality, advising to use more life experience to inspire her. Tsubasa is about to steal a delivery bicycle, when Haruka asks if he was proposing to go on a date. Tsubasa then nervously says that is exactly what he was doing.
He then frantically thinks to himself what in the world is he doing with a “weird kid”, his original plan was to take her as a hostage but isn’t sure what to do now. Haruka asks what kind of relationship Tsubasa is hoping for. Tsubasa hesitates but tells her that he would take her to the movies or have tea with her. To his surprise, Haruka found some tea leaves in the break room and prepares to brew the tea with hot water for the both of them. Tsubasa is unsettled with how calm she is despite being a hostage and still trying to figure out what to do, wondering how long he can keep the lovey-dovey façade up. He hears a knock on the door and nervously implores Haruka to answer and tell them to leave. He covers his sudden reaction by telling Haruka he does not want their wonderful date to be disturbed.
The person knocking is Tsuyoshi, who races to the bathroom upon entry, needing to use the toilet. After he finishes, he explains he is looking for Taro and wanted to thank him for helping him out. Tsubasa decides he needs to leave now, but discovers his glasses are not in his inner coat pocket, so he can’t find an invisible door. Tsuyoshi seems to recognize Tsubasa from somewhere, suddenly remembering a wanted poster of him on a bulletin board near his apartment. He immediately starts to panic and asks Haruka what her relationship is with the criminal. She responds that they are dating, which initially flabbergasts Tsuyoshi but he deduced that she is being scammed.
He pulls Haruka into a corner where Tsubasa cannot see them while he is distracted, informing her that the man she is with is a criminal. Haruka doesn’t believe Tsuyoshi until she searches online on her phone and is shocked to see his face on the most wanted list. Tsuyoshi says that they need to call the police with her phone, but she doesn’t know if they are mistaken. Tsuyoshi says it is obvious that the man is the one in the picture. Haruka thwarted Tsuyoshi’s attempt to call for help by disconnecting the landline phone, revealing she wants to be a hostage for manga inspiration as it is a “rare experience”.
Tsuyoshi frantically tries to come up with a way to stop Tsubasa, thinking maybe he should change into Kiji Brother and capture him. But he decides against it as doing so might escalate the situation or scare Haruka (unaware she is Oni Sister). He admits he is pretty terrified right now as “violent people are sometimes scarier than monsters”. Tsubasa offers some bread to eat, which the three share, but Tsuyoshi makes a run for it to the doorway and shouted for help only to be caught by Tsubasa and dragged back inside. Tsubasa claims he is innocent of his crimes, but Tsuyoshi rightfully points out that he is being held against his will and that is a crime. Tsubasa apologies as he realized he is making things worse for himself, telling them both they are free to go. Haruka locks the door and demands to be made a proper hostage. Tsuyoshi thinks she is insane but then recognizes her as the disgraced manga artist Haruka Kitou, to which she proclaims innocence to the charges of plagiarism. Tsubasa is sympathetic to her as he knows what it feels like for no one to believe him of his innocence.
Taro unlocks the door and enters, turning on the lights in preparation for Shirokuma Express to reopen tomorrow. He sees the others inside and says that they must all have a real bond if they are here. He is not really interested in the details when asked by Haruka if he even wants to know, as he is eager to return to work. Taro then notices something in the storage area…
Elsewhere, a purse snatcher steals from a woman and attempts to flee, only to be tackled and viciously attacked by Keisatsuki. Shinichi witnesses this, annoyed his afternoon walk is being interrupted but takes action and becomes Saru Brother. He shoots Keisatsuki, who tries to run away and Shinichi pursues him.
At Shirokuma, Taro finds an opened package, the one the special bread was in and asks who opened the package. Tsubasa reveals it was him and apologizes. Taro, angry, is told that Tsubasa is a fugitive, and Taro grabs Tsubasa by the ear, making Tsuyoshi think he's taking him to the police, which upsets Haruka. Tsubasa, refusing to take orders from Taro, punches him, but it has no effect on Taro. Taro then forces Tsubasa into a moving van, and instead of taking him to the police, drives him to the home of the person the package was meant to go to, and makes him apologize. To make up for the mistake, she makes Tsubasa clean her toilet as well. Taro then berates him on his scrubbing and to put his heart into it. Tsubasa gripes about his situation.
Outside, Detective Sayama is searching the area with his fellow officers for Tsubasa, berating them for not looking hard enough. The other two detectives exposit that Sayama is approaching retirement age and his career has not much to show for it in terms of advancement, he has a bloodhound like ability to track down crooks but gets in heated arguments with the top brass of the police department.
The detectives see Taro drag Tsubasa back into Shirokuma Express and alert Detective Sayama. Taro throws him, with Tsuyoshi wondering why he did not turn Tsubasa over to the police. Taro says he isn’t satisfied and demands that Tsubasa sort the packages as part of his punishment. Tsubasa thinks Taro has a lot of nerve bossing him around and he is annoying. The police announce on a megaphone for Tsubasa to come out with his hands up as they have surrounded the building.
Shinichi is de-transformed and searching the area for Keisatsuki. stumbling upon the police at Shirokuma and Detective Sayama shouting for Tsubasa to surrender. Shinichi decides to deescalate the situation by confiscating the megaphone and pleads for the suspect to reform, reciting a haiku to motivate him to turn himself in. Haruka is annoyed as she wants to write her manga and the universe seems to not want her being a hostage. She then bursts out demanding a fast getaway vehicle from the police or the hostages will be harmed. Shinichi runs inside and intends on speaking with Tsubasa, explaining his haiku. Tsuyoshi wonders how things will turn out, concerned Miho is worried sick about him about now since he hasn’t returned home yet.
Tsubasa is annoyed by Shinichi and his haiku explanation, once again claiming he is innocent. Shinichi inquires what did Tsubasa do to cause the police to chase him. Tsubasa cannot say as if he keeps quiet and evades custody for a year “she” will be released. The woman is Natsumi, Tsubasa’s lover.
Taro believes him, especially since when he opened the bread package, he kept the shipping label intact. Tsubasa was going to pay back the customer for the bread, something a criminal would not do. Taro then berates Shinichi for being “drunk on his own words” as his haiku did nothing to calm Tsubasa down. He then calls out everyone for being selfish and not considering Tsubasa’s feelings. Shinichi wonders about Taro, to which he responds that he does not understand happiness but he tries hard to make others happy to learn how to be happy himself.
Tsubasa thinks about happiness and upon seeing the calendar, he realizes today is his birthday, which he completely forgot about. Before the mysterious incident, he and Natsumi would celebrate his birthday together. The mention of a birthday reminds Taro of his past, as a kid, he and Jin would prepare for his birthday and he hoped people would come celebrate with him. He waited all day, but nobody showed up despite the invitations. When Jin saw how sad his son was, he tried to cheer him up, saying everyone was probably busy but he will celebrate with him and lights the candles on Taro’s cake and sings “Happy Birthday”, but lonely young Taro is still sad that nobody else came to celebrate with him. Taro sings “Happy Birthday” in melancholy remembering it.
Tsuyoshi gets an idea, he was going to give a box of sliced strawberry shortcakes to Taro as a thank you gift and the group decides to make it a birthday cake for Tsubasa. Taro smiles and starts singing “Happy Birthday” with everyone while passing out paper plates, the police hear this singing and are confused as to what is going on inside Shirokuma. As the group finish singing, they all give Tsubasa their strawberries from the top of their cake slices. Tsubasa is almost moved to tears by this act of kindness and as they cheer for him he starts to cry.
Their celebration ends abruptly as Detective Sayama bursts in, demanding that they cease this nonsense and declares that they are all under arrest. His desire to capture Tsubasa and gain glory from the arrest overwhelms him and he changes into Keisatsuki. Sayama hopes to get a commendation for his efforts as he attacks Tsuyoshi and knocks him out. Not wanting his new friends to get hurt, Tsubasa shields them and begs them to run away, diverting Keisatsuki away from them by charging at him and throwing things at him to rile him up. Shinichi thinks Tsubasa is indeed a good person and goes to check on Tsuyoshi, while Haruka wonders where Taro went.
Tsubasa runs from Keisatsuki and a group of Anoni but finds himself cornered and Keisatsuki intends to murder Tsubasa with his gun. He fires but Tsubasa’s sunglasses return to him just in the nick of time to escape down a door nearby, evading the shots. Tsubasa then changes into Inu Brother and fights the Anoni and Keisatsuki. Oni Sister and Saru Brother arrive to help and Shinichi at first thinks about reciting a haiku but changes his mind given how intense the battle is at the moment. Kiji Brother dives down and nearly gets knocked out again. The boys Avatar Change into Ryusoul Blue, Black and Pink, but Haruka feels left out as that team has no Yellow Ranger to change into. Don Momotaro makes his entrance at last and challenges Keisatsuki, but stops for a second as he finds Tsubasa’s Ryusoulger power interesting. Don Momotaro grabs Tsubasa’s arm to scan the ZanglaSword with Tsubasa’s DonBlaster, this channels the power of Ryusoul Red into the ZanglaSword for a Ryusoul Slash. This destroys the Anoni and defeats Keisatsuki, who immediately becomes Keisatsuking.
Don Momotaro uses a new Avataro Gear to summon his mecha and become Don ZenkaiOh. Keisatsuking proves tough to fight as his head mounted gun keeps Don ZenkaiOh from getting in close to attack with its sword, having to dodge and block with the shield. Don Momotaro tries the Don Leg Buster but seemingly missed his target, he did hit a virtual building enough that stomping on the ground causes it to topple on Keisatsuking’s head dazing him and burying him in pixel blocks. Don Momotaro then quickly uses the Don Zenkai Crash to end the battle, with the Patranger Sentai Gear ejecting from Keisatsuking’s body upon exploding.
At Cafe Donbura, Kaito gives some black coffee to Haruka to serve to Detective Sayama. He pulls the Patranger Sentai Gear out of his apron and it reacts, changing into the Patranger Avataro Gear. Sayama loves his coffee after tasting it and Haruka narrates she thinks she understands Taro Momoi a little better as she also tries to make people happy so she can find happiness.
In an unknown virtual art gallery space, the Noto discuss the Donbrothers. Sononi and Sonoza wonder if they are just going to let them continue interfering, but Sonoi destroys a virtual replica of the Mona Lisa by freezing it and wonders what the next move will be.
