Don 37: I and Ni and Za and Shi (イとニとザとシ I to Ni to Za to Shi) is the thirty-seventh episode of Avataro Sentai Donbrothers. It features the debut of Sonoshi.

Synopsis[]

Sonoza is Haruka's strict manga editor, Sononi contacts Tsubasa, who has returned to normal, and Sonoi gets friendly with Taro at an oden stall! While this is all happening, Sonoshi, a Noto inspector, observes them from the shadows for their fighting styles. Depending on their report, Sonoi and his group will be punished by the council, thus they listen to Sonoshi's request.

Plot[]

Tsubasa recaps his battle with the fake Juto doppelgänger and reveals he has no idea how he got free from the tree in The Forest of Slumber…

A storm cloud looms over the quarry as the Noto and Donbrothers face off in preparation for battle. Sonoi narrates that this will be their final fight against the Donbrothers. And there is but one important thing that all combatants must do when they fight: a roll call. But Sonoi feels that he must explain how he and his comrades got to this point…

Earlier, Sonoza was reviewing Haruka’s new manga and said that it was no good, upsetting her. He explains that her story is too stretched out and she needs to think about the plot more thoroughly, then gives her words of encouragement to convince her to do better. Unbeknownst to Sonoza, someone in a mask was watching him nearby and taking notes on their phone.

Sononi meets with Tsubasa to check on him, surprised that he is “no longer a Juto” and asks how he managed such a feat. Tsubasa says he doesn’t know, telling her to mind her own business and walks off. Sononi smiles and laughs while the masked stranger observes her and yet again takes notes.

Tsuyoshi is having lunch at a cart and treating Shinichi and Haruka to eat with him, telling everyone that Miho came home and that he is feeling much better now. Taro arrives and orders daikon radish and konjac noodles, when the Noto trio arrives and orders lunch too. It begins to rain as everyone eats and Sonoi passes messages back to Taro as he refuses to talk to him. However, the messages break down as they are passed on and are misinterpreted, such as Taro believing Sonoi is treating him to a free meal and to get more noodles.

The masked stranger suddenly barges into their little “social circle”, knocking over their meals and insulting the cart owner about human food. Taro calls them rude and they respond by playing an ocarina to summon Anoni. The Donbrothers transform to deal with them, with Sonoi knowing who the masked stranger is, revealing them to be a fourth member of the Noto: Sonoshi. The Noto Trio then vanish after the Donbrothers destroy the Anoni forces.

Back at their base in Ideon, Sonoshi reveals they are the acting Inspector of the Council, sent to oversee the battles of the Trio and if they are worthy of their positions.

Sonoi tries to defend their worthiness but Sonoshi rebuttals that they are aiding their enemies and cites incidents of that happening, such as Sonoi saving Taro after defeating him, Sonoza helping Haruka’s manga, and Sononi becoming friends with Tsubasa Inuzuka. Sonoza is in the most trouble, as Sonoshi inquires what Haruka’s relationship is with him. Sonoshi believes that they all are becoming weak and as their superior, they expect better from them. The Trio bow reluctantly, with Sonoza throwing a fit before doing so.

Sonoshi measures the level of their bows, criticizing Sonoi for not lowering his head far enough. They then gives an ultimatum: destroy the Donbrothers immediately and depending on their performance, Sonoshi will decide if the Noto Council will hold an inquiry or not on all of them. If they fail, they all will be demoted and forced to scrub floors indefinitely for the rest of their lives. They request before battle that they “announce themselves” to the Donbrothers, to show proof and pride in being Noto warriors.

At Cafe Donbura, the team discusses the strange individual who ruined their lunch earlier, only for Sonoshi to suddenly show up with a fire extinguisher and “disinfect” the cafe and them of “wickedness”. They then introduce themselves and issues a challenge to a duel for the entire team. Both teams will play for keeps and Sonoshi reveals that Haruka has been fraternizing with Sonoza about her manga before leaving.

The group is still off put by the new Noto and the conversation turns to the fact Haruka is making friends with the enemy, Taro is seemingly friendly with Sonoi and Shinichi accidentally revealing his crush on Sononi. Kaito walks in from the back and is shocked at the mess that was left behind, believing that the fire extinguisher residue is snow.

Sonoshi is disgusted by all the humans on Earth and “disinfects” an outdoor cafe and kidnaps the human patrons with Anoni he summons through invisible doors. Sonoi finds Sonoshi’s behavior unacceptable and more like a Hitotsuki. As their superior finishes their task, the Donbrothers teleport in and Taro inquires what Sonoshi is doing, to which they respond that they are “cleaning” the filthy human world and equips their armor, intending to do the same to the Donbrothers.

Taro declares a “cleaning contest” as they engage the inspector, but even Taro struggles to deal with Sonoshi as they use Haruka as a shield to stop him from attacking. Annoyed, Taro knocks Haruka away and continues to clash with Sonoshi, which upsets her. Sonoshi beats down and utterly humiliates the Donbrothers and teleports away, stating they will not be the one to finish them.

Sonoi then arrives to talk, though Tsubasa initially tries to shoot him and gets flung several yards by Taro for “being in the way”.

Back at the cafe, Kaito is forcing Haruka, Tsuyoshi and Sonoza to clean up while Taro and Sonoi talk about Sonoshi, with Sonoi venting about how he dislikes them and that the duel isn’t personal, which makes it less enjoyable as it is just a direct order rather than a choice.

Shinichi tries to get to know Sononi by offering her a strawberry shortcake and then reciting a haiku about a red dragonfly, only to get the cake shoved into his face by her in rejection.

Sonoi has an idea about how to solve the Sonoshi problem, but needs help from the Donbrothers. They want to skirt around the rules of attacking a comrade by making Sonoshi into a Hitotsuki. Tsuyoshi points out that the Trio told them that Noto cannot become Hitotsuki, but Sonoi reveals that there is a secret way of doing so. They must harvest a nearly matured Hitotsuki from a human and transfer it to Sonoshi. Taro has a good hunch of which human to use, but finds their need for help uncharacteristically straightforward. Sonoi says he and the other Noto are desperate and want to be out from under Sonoshi’s thumb.

Sononi and Sonoza go to the training grounds of Minoru Ono, both in shock that he somehow survived Sonoi’s devastating attack when he was GoGoki. They confirm that yet again Minoru desires revenge on Taro and is unknowingly creating another Hitotsuki as a result. Sonoza uses the umbrella of his spear to suck up the Hitotsuki from Minoru and keeps it contained for their plan as they leave, while Minoru wakes up confused as to what knocked him unconscious.

As both parties heal to the quarry battlefield, Sonoi asks that the Donbrothers not laugh at the Noto for announcing themselves. Taro instead says that his team will do the same, as it is proper etiquette to announce yourself when someone else does.

Flashing forward to when the episode started, both parties do roll calls (though Inu Brother is absent) while Sonoshi watches the fight on a patio chair in the shade. Jiro rushes in to interrupt the Donbrothers roll call, wanting to be part of it, with both personalities then announcing themselves.

The fight begins and after an intense sword battle between Sonoi and Taro, the latter seemingly succumbs to fatal wounds and collapses. Sonoshi goes to inspect the body to confirm Taro is dead, but then the other Noto spring their trap as Sonoi reveals that they took advantage of Taro’s peculiar malady of dying after telling a lie to stage a distraction. Sonoshi’s strong desire to punish the Trio for insubordination forcibly turns them into the Gingaman Hitotsuki, Seijuki.

Taro wants to fight upon revival but Sonoi says he and the other Noto will handle Sonoshi, changing into his Kyokatai Form and successfully weakening Seijuki, but he hesitates to finish the fight. Taro equips his GolDon armor and uses Festival End in tandem with Don Torabolt’s Thunder God Prowling White Tiger to defeat Seijuki. Seijuki becomes Seijuking with Toradragonjin and GolDon Onitaijin tag teaming to face them, swiftly purifying Sonoshi with the Jiro’s Hurricane and DonBros Utopia. A defeated Sonoshi angrily exclaims they will remember this betrayal and teleports, with Sonoi explaining that he just couldn’t bring himself to harm a fellow Noto when Sonoza asks why he didn’t finish Sonoshi off. Taro puts his hand on Sonoi’s shoulder, showing he understands his reasoning.

Later that evening, Tsuyoshi returns to his apartment and apologizes to Miho for being late coming home, only for it to be revealed that “Miho” is a china doll on his couch that an insane Tsuyoshi believes is talking to him…
