This article is about an episode in Avataro Sentai Donbrothers. |
Don 32: Duel Part 2 (けっとうソノ2 Kettō Sono Ni) is the thirty-second episode of Avataro Sentai Donbrothers. It features the return of Sonoi since his death in episode 27, the debut of Black Onitaijin Murasame, and the second apparent death of Taro Momoi.
Synopsis[]
When Sononi challenges Taro to a duel, he accepts alone. In preparation for the duel, Sononi and Sonoza train with Murasame. Jiro hears this and asks Taro to fight with him. Finally, on the day of the duel, the situation is the same as before with Taro not showing up, and an unnecessary intruder. From out of nowhere, Sonoi, who was defeated by Taro, shows up.
Plot[]
Sononi and Sonoza have challenged Taro to a duel, with the latter sensing their bloodlust as being equal to that of Sonoi. Sonoza is prepared to fight, but narrates that he should explain how all this started…
In Ideon, Sonoza is once again reading First Love Hero for the 83rd time, which Sononi doesn’t approve of since they need to start training to use Murasame to enact their plan against Don Momotaro for slaying Sonoi. Sononi is driven to achieve that goal and make it reality.
The Donbrothers are enjoying the evening with sparklers and celebrating the end of the summer. Haruka wonders how much longer will their battles continue, with a melancholy Taro saying that they must defeat the remaining two Noto generals first. A firework projector activates, with Sononi issuing a challenge to Don Momotaro for a duel. Taro perks up and smiles, eager to accept the challenge.
The next day, somewhere in a cave, Sononi tells Sonoza that it isn’t revenge that motivates her, but a sense of duty to eliminate the last of the Don Clan. She even calls Sonoi a fool for recklessly throwing his life away to defeat Taro. Understanding her intentions, Sonoza unseals Murasame, who is at first confused as to why he slept for so long. Sonoza orders him to work with the two of them and Sononi believes that since the Don Clan designed Murasame it means he has power equal to Don Momotaro. Mother agrees that they should work with the two for now and Murasame complies. He goes into a fighting stance and Sonoza and Sononi train with him.
Taro makes his delivery rounds, when Jiro requests to accompany and assist him in the duel. Taro refuses his offer, citing it is 100 to a 1000 years too early for him to be considered ready. Jiro insists he is ready and has worked hard to improve himself. Taro decides to prove that Jiro is still not ready.
At a dojo, both men sit with a wooden sword in between them and Taro states the rules. It will be a staring contest, whomever blinks will signal the opponents to reach for the sword and attempt to hit the other with it. Jiro tries to keep his eyes open but Taro’s intense stare psychs him out and forces him to blink. Taro manages to grab the sword before Jiro does, with the latter losing the game.
Jiro consults with Jin on the secret of Taro’s strength, with little results as Jin says it is just something that Taro was born with. However, he tells a disheartened Jiro that he can possibly achieve a power equal to Taro if he finds a way to combine his two personas together.
Sononi and Sonoza continue training with Murasame, though Sonoza messes up the timing of a planned shot by Sononi’s bow by getting in the way.
Elsewhere, Minoru Ono has returned home to help out on his elderly mother’s farm by tending to the ponies. Mrs. Ono is happy her son has given up his crazy obsession for becoming a ninja warrior, enjoying lunch with him. While Minoru tries to be content with his life, he quickly has ninja related hallucinations and still desires to be one and get revenge on Taro for ruining his dream. This desire yet again turns him into a Hitotsuki, the Boukenger themed GoGoKi.
The events of the afternoon play out similarly to the day Taro dueled Sonoi, the combatants await Taro and he never shows up, the other Donbrothers fret over the battle until Taro is revealed to have never been to the duel yet due to his job. Shinichi even comments that the whole day feels like deja vu. The two generals arrive at Shirokuma Express and reluctantly help Taro with his delivery route and Sononi calms an irate customer by using her feminine charm during the final stretch of the route.
The scene transitions to where the episode started and the three have a fierce battle until Dangerous Jiro interferes, claiming that Taro is his prey and no one else has the right to defeat him. Don Torabolt wildly attacks all three of them and then Minoru shows up, determined to get revenge on Taro, transforming into GoGoKi. Taro is a bit annoyed that he has to fight Minoru again and that Jiro is interfering with the fight. The Donbrothers teleport in immediately after and are stunned by all this chaos but quickly get GoGoKi and Don Torabolt outside so Taro can have his duel without any interruptions.
The fight resumes and Sononi and Sonoza execute the combination attack that they practiced, with Sonoza timing the throw of his spear perfectly with Sononi’s arrow. Taro realizes that this is an attack he cannot dodge as he is now, so he quickly shifts to Alter form. His limp body dodges the arrow while he uses his Alter to block Sonoza’s spear and knocks it away, Taro then quickly returns to his body. Sonoza unseals Murasame and uses the Ninjarksword at full power to match Don Momotaro’s sword fighting prowess.
Suddenly, the sky forms storm clouds and a blinding beam of light crashes into the earth. The shockwave knocks everyone off balance and the fighting of all parties involved stops to see what landed. A procession of black and white miko and retainers appear with a familiar face sitting on a portable shrine… Sonoi!
Everyone is in disbelief that Sonoi is alive and unsettled when he starts laughing as his entourage carries him. He boisterously apologizes to his “companions” for keeping them waiting and challenges Taro to a rematch, equipping an armor enhanced by Taro’s stolen energy. Sononi tries to get Sonoi to stand down and let her continue her duel with Taro, but he says that companions are not in any position to give him orders. Tsuyoshi finds Sonoi’s behavior odd, with Haruka recognizing that he is acting similar to Taro. GoGoKi attacks the two of them and the battles swiftly resume, with Shinichi holding back Dangerous Jiro and Taro engaging Sonoi.
Sonoi proves to be a bit stronger in the fight, enhanced by Taro’s power and blocking the ZanglaSword with a new shield. He manages to knock Taro down and push him back. Taro is glad Sonoi is alive, but questions how it is possible since he was certain that he killed him. Sonoi says it is because Taro is alive and says that they are alike but like the sea and skies, they can face each other but cannot be together, but both share the same blue. As their battle intensifies, GoGoKi breaks away from Haruka’s hold and charges towards Taro. Though he tries to purify Minoru a third time by charging up the ZanglaSword, Taro watches in shock as Sonoi kills Minoru with a swift strike from his sword. Minoru cries for his mother and says how sorry he is, mere seconds before he explodes.
Sononi summons Don Murasame and Mother calls for him to use Black Onitaijin, with the newly formed robo challenging the Donbrothers. Annoyed with his duel being interrupted, Sonoi leaves. The team combines into Toradora Onitaijin and the two titans trade blows in close combat until Mother suggests that Murasame use the Sawshark Swords. The blades only work for so long as Toradora Onitaijin uses its own blades to counter and deflect Black Onitaijin’s laser blasts. Toradora Onitaijin critically damages Black Onitaijin with the DonBros Shangri-La arrow finisher, with Murasame retreating back into the Ninjarksword and escaping. Disappointed, Sononi and Sonoza depart.
Taro and Sonoi head back to the bridge where they fought previously, each smiling in anticipation until they meet up. They exchange glares and quickly transform, swinging their blades at each other. However, unlike previously, it is Taro who collapses from being mortally wounded and seemingly dies. Sonoi walks away without remorse and Don Torabolt examines Taro’s body, then picks it up and carries it away…
