Don 29: Mourning and Murasame (とむらいとムラサメ Tomurai to Murasame) is the twenty-ninth episode of Avataro Sentai Donbrothers. It features the only appearance of the Noto Council.
Synopsis[]
Taro receives a funeral notice for Sonoi from the Noto Council. Taro, who decides to go alone, is invited to a different dimension, where he is surrounded by celestial maidens and receives hospitality such as baths, massages, and meals. Meanwhile, Don Murasame appears to help the Anoni, who is attacked by the Juto. Jiro tries to fight back, but the other Jiro and Murasame feel similar to each other…
Plot[]
Don Murasame enters the chambers of the Noto Council with the dead body of Sonoi, the two Councilmen are in disbelief at his death but praise Murasame for returning Sonoi home. They offer a reward and Murasame asks for his freedom, but reassured them he would still be loyal to the Noto and offer his services when needed. The Council refuses as Murasame escaped before he was fully matured, this makes his powers unstable. Murasame says he will grow, learn and reach completion on his own, departing from the chamber.
Standing alone outside in Ideon, Murasame asks Mother if this was the right decision, she praises him and says it was. Murasame questions about where he came from and what he should do next, but she dismisses the questions and says he should just fight to achieve completion.
At Shirokuma Express, Taro has just finished his deliveries and is ready to enjoy a special lunch for his break: a jumbo pork cutlet sandwich that was a brand new item at the convenience store. His coworkers envy the tasty sandwich as Taro prepares to take a bite… only to nearly break his teeth biting on something hard inside it. He pulls out a message from the sandwich and his coworkers think he won a prize or something special.
Taro discusses the strange message with his companions at Cafe Donbura, saying it is an invitation to a funeral. Because the message got coated in the sandwich’s thick sauce, the holographic message is fragmented and only parts of it are heard. Shinichi pieces together that the message is an invitation for Taro to attend Sonoi’s funeral.
Haruka says that Taro should not go, as this is an obvious trap by the Noto. Tsuyoshi and the others want to accompany him to protect him. Taro refuses, he is responsible for killing Sonoi so he must go alone, he wishes to pay his respects and wants to have a word with The Council. Upon that statement, Taro is suddenly teleported to the shock of the others, with Shinichi realizing that means that Taro’s acceptance of the invitation was received.
Taro finds himself naked in a bathtub, with Noto servants and handmaidens surrounding him. He figures out that he must undergo purification before the ceremonies. A handmaiden asks about the temperature of his bath water, which Taro admits isn’t as hot as he likes and demands for more hot water. A servant turns on the faucet to fulfill his request.
Sonoza is upset that Taro of all people is attending the funeral and he can’t. Sononi says mourning the dead is nonproductive, she is more curious about Sonoi’s last words he said before the duel, to seek out Murasame if he died.
At an unnamed black company, a manager named Nagai is screaming abusively at his employees to work faster. His constant impatience and desire for the world to keep up with him turns him into the Abaranger Hitotsuki, Bakuryuki. He absorbs an employee who couldn’t open the door for him fast enough and storms off.
Elsewhere, an Anoni is attacked by the bus guide Cat Juto and is nearly devoured, but Don Murasame appears and attempts to fight the Cat Juto, who flees. Jiro arrives as Don Doragoku and fights Murasame, demanding to know who he is. During the battle, Dangerous Jiro takes over and becomes Don Torabolt. When Torabolt goes for a killing blow, he stops and notices Murasame did not block or counter his attack and senses the same feeling of sorrow from him from the last time they fought. He understands that Murasame wants to die and is disgusted, unwilling to fight such a pathetic being like that.
Murasame asks Dangerous Jiro to wait and despite Mother’s protests asks him a question; 'is it painful to have two people inside him?', Dangerous Jiro tries to avoid answering when the Cat Juto from earlier tries to kill him by swiftly pouncing from below and rushing him. Murasame protects Jiro and impales her with his Ninjarksword, destroying the Juto. Sonoza and Sononi witness this from a distance and are shocked, as the Juto were presumably unkillable. Sononi figures out what Sonoi’s last words meant, Murasame is the only one that can destroy the Juto.
In the celestial spa, Taro is given a massage and is asked if it is to his liking. Dissatisfied, Taro decides to show the servant the proper way to massage someone, laughing as he presses down on the servant’s back.
Dangerous Jiro, indebted to Murasame for saving him, decides to tell him the origins of their split personality. Dangerous reveals that he is the original personality, an ultimate warrior born with the destiny of dominating everything that he saw fit to conquer. However, during his childhood, his interactions with Rumi and his other friends affected him. One day, he was chosen as the oni in a game of Kagome Kagome and upon participating at the end, an alter became the dominant personality when the “ritual” was finished. This Jiro was someone who could smile and laugh with those who were around him. Dangerous Jiro smiles and then goes back to “sleep” with Jiro apparently aware of most of the conversation.
Murasame tells Jiro that he isn’t sure what to do, wondering how he should live and what it means to exist. Jiro admits he doesn’t know the answer, but believes that is why there are two of him, he is trying to find his own way to live. Murasame admits he too has two individuals inside him, with Mother telepathically telling him that she will try to do better at listening to what he has to say. Murasame thanks her and before Jiro can further bond with him, Bakuryuki rampages around the city, frustrated that everyone around him is moving too slowly despite the civilians fleeing from him. Bakuryuki absorbs some people who were relaxing in the park for “being lazy”.
Haruka, Tsuyoshi and Shinichi teleport in, surrounding Bakuryuki and startling him, the group are more surprised when Murasame helps them with Jiro alongside him. Bakuryuki uses a projected construct of the Abaranger emblem to try and crush the Rangers, with Shinichi wishing Taro was with the team as this Hitotsuki is tough to fight without him.
At the celestial spa, Taro is offered Noto cuisine, a cotton candy-like food substance, and he refuses to be fed by the handmaiden, as a person should enjoy a meal with their own hands. He admits that the food has no flavor but graciously accepts the hospitality and eats it anyway.
Back on Earth, the Donbrothers are still struggling with Bakuryuki and Murasame is forced to withdraw as his body has run out of energy. He goes inside the Ninjarksword and flies off…
Elsewhere near a warehouse, Tsubasa is once again being chased by the Detective Sayama Cat Juto. He hides inside the warehouse until the Ninjarksword crashes through the nearby window and he catches it. The sword emits an evil aura and commands Tsubasa to fight, possessing him and making him into a feral warrior who attacks the Cat Juto and scars his face. The Cat Juto flees and Miho, who was hunting the former in her Crane Juto personality, is forced to escape when Tsubasa shifted his feral bloodlust to target her. Tsubasa, who is still possessed by the sword, is unaware of who he was attacking.
Sonoza and Sonoi find Tsubasa and Sononi can tell something is wrong with him by the way he fights. She manages to yank away the Ninjarksword from Tsubasa, but becomes possessed herself and attacks Sonoza. Tsubasa regains his consciousness and is confused as to what he was doing.
Taro enters the room where Sonoi’s funeral is being held, carrying a large bag and sorrowfully looking at Sonoi’s corpse in its coffin. The Noto Council address the “son of the Don Clan”, foe that he may be, as a worthy champion for besting Sonoi. Taro doesn’t care about that or have any words for Sonoi. He does regret that they didn’t get to have oden together, having a fantasy where the two of them did so.
Taro then has his words with The Council as he pulls out the invitation and his sandwich: What kind of idiot puts a funeral invitation in a sandwich? He claims doing so ruined his appetite and since food must not be wasted, he demands that the councilmen eat the sandwich. The two partially remove their masks and do it, finding the sandwich to be delicious. Taro, having said his piece, prepares to leave but the Council prepares the “final ritual”. Sonoi’s body glows and his armor materializes to attack Taro, who quickly becomes Don Momotaro and blocks it. The funeral as Haruka suspected, was an elaborate trap for Taro.
The two other fights converge as armored Sonoza knocks away the Ninjarksword from Sononi. It lands near the Donbrothers and Shinichi tries to use it to turn the tide of battle. Haruka knows that the sword is not to be messed with, but Shinichi thinks his mental zen can overcome the blade. He is quickly proven wrong as the evil aura demorphs him and he quotes a haiku about his values being shredded by the sword. Shinichi then goes feral and attacks his teammates.
Taro continues to fight “Sonoi”, but notices that the fighting style does not match the real one. He then beheads the armor, revealing that it is an empty shell manipulated by the Council. The armor continues to move without its head until it recovers it, so Taro pierces its chest with the ZanglaSword. This becomes a huge mistake as Taro’s energy is sucked out of him and into the armor, weakening him and rendering him unable to stay in Don Momotaro form.
Taro is sent back, observing the chaos of his companions being chased by Shinichi or fighting Bakuryuki and tries to Avatar Change, only to discover that he is so low on power he cannot transform. Haruka and Tsuyoshi manage to knock away the Ninjarksword from Shinichi, which lands next to Taro. Shinichi pleads a curious Taro not to touch the sword but he picks it up. The aura tries to possess Taro, but it inadvertently recharges him and he resists its influence as he becomes Don Momotaro again. Taro then tries out the Ninjarksword, using a powerful attack to finish Bakuryuki in a single blow.
Bakuryuki becomes Bakuryuking and after Taro disposes of the Ninjarksword when it tries to possess him again, the team becomes Toradora Onitaijin when Bakuryuking proves to be too fast for Don Onitaijin and Toradoragonjin. After crippling the Hitotsuki’s legs with arrows, they finish off Bakuryuking with a peach variant of the DonBros Fantasia.
Sonoza and Sononi find the discarded Ninjarksword and Sonoza uses his copy of First Love Hero and a secret technique to bind and seal Murasame’s power. This works as Sonoza is able to lift up and hold the Ninjarksword without becoming possessed, he then laughs in his moment of glory.
The Noto Council prepares a ritual, with the handmaidens pouring the liquid essence of Taro’s energy from the armor into the coffin of Sonoi. His corpse body reacts and stirs awake, with the eyes emitting an eerie red glow…
