- ―Dino Fury Rangers
The Dino Fury Keys (also known as Dino Keys) are the power-up items of the Dino Fury Rangers in Power Rangers Dino Fury.[1]
Overview[]
The Dino Fury Keys are the power source for the Dino Fury Power Rangers. In order to use them, the Rangers must first flip them open into a miniature knight, and then depending on the type, insert them into either the Dino Fury Morphers or the Chromafury Sabers (or the Mosa Blaster or the Mosa Blade in the Gold Ranger's case). They are currently separated into three categories: Morphing Keys, Boost Keys, and Armor Keys.
Morphing Keys are the personal Dino Fury Keys for the Rangers. Each one is used to allow the Rangers to morph through the Dino Fury Morphers and can be used inside their Chromafury Sabers for a special attack. The Morphing Keys are also used to activate Megazord configurations as the Rangers toss their Keys towards their Zords to activate the combinations. Depending on the Megazord configuration, a Morphing Key serves as the head of the Megazord (for example: the T-Rex Champion Zord Battle Mode uses the T-Rex Dino Key, but the Dino Fury Megazord Claw Formation uses the Tiger Dino Key).
Boost Keys are used as power-ups for the Rangers. By putting a key into the Chromafury Saber, they activate the Boost Key and cause extra armor to form over their right arm. Each Boost Key has their own powers that the Rangers can use to turn the tide in a fight, and can be used by any of them. Some Keys, like the Sonic Key, can be used by the Rangers while unmorphed.
Armor Keys are used as more powerful boosts for the Rangers. Using one inside the Chromafury Saber (or the Mosa Blaster in the Gold Ranger's case) gives the user a Battle Armor and an elemental ability (for example: the Blazing Dino Key gives the user the Blazing Battle Armor and grants them fire-based abilities). The Armor Keys also activate the Auxiliary Zords upon first usage, and just like the Morphing Keys, they can be used to activate Megazord configurations and serve as the head of the Megazord.
History[]
Sixty-five million years ago, the Dino Fury Keys were used in the Great Sporix Wars by the original Dino Fury Rangers of planet Rafkon. Near the close of the conflict, a number of these keys were taken to or landed on Earth, all of them in and around the area of Pangaea that would in modern times host the city of Pine Ridge. With the bulk of the Sporix kept in stasis, the Dino Keys also remained dormant during what would become the history of the Earth itself.
A small group of Rafkonians arrived on Earth sometime in the late 1990s or early 2000s, and were captured and taken to the top-secret Area 62 for study and experimentation. At some point, an horrific accident at the compound caused a fire. Three subjects were still inside: Tarrick, his wife Santaura, and an infant girl. Ed Jones, a custodian at the time, was working when the accident unfolded. He responded to the prisoners' calls for aid, who then pleaded with him to keep the girl safe. He does so, raising the girl as his own granddaughter. Tarrick survives unscathed, but Santaura is rendered comatose.
Some twenty years later, Tarrick returns to the dilapidated compound and builds a stasis device in hopes of reviving Santaura, but there is not enough power to run it. He also discovers the Dino Knight Morpher and a Chromafury Saber. Corrupted by the energy of these devices, Tarrick is transformed into Void Knight and begins his search for Sporix, setting in motion events that would awaken the other Dino Keys.
Void Knight's search would lead him to the ruins known as Dinohenge, where a cyborg dinosaur had awakened moments before; and, sensing an imminent threat, desperately tries to awaken another alien in stasis. She is ultimately unsuccessful, as Void Knight proceeds to take a stasis capsule with all of the known Sporix inside. Fortunately for her, two curious young adults stumble into the ruins and take hold of Chromafury Sabers as well, the skirmish ending when Void Knight takes off with the capsule and a key originally meant to defend the ruins. Void Knight dropped the capsule en route back to Area 62, scattering the spores all over Pine Ridge.
Throughout the events of Dino Fury, Solon and as many as six young adults race Void Knight and eventually Void Queen in the recovery of the Sporix and the missing Dino Keys. Though Void Queen succeeds in the matter of the former, her living vessel is ultimately destroyed when Zayto sacrifices himself. Meanwhile, Void Queen earlier released an evil thought long vanished, only for the Morphin Masters to contain it. The Earth, it seemed, was at last at peace again.
Sadly, the calm lasted but a few months, for a war-mongering profiteer had released the diabolical Lord Zedd in hopes of filling her coffers. Team Dino Fury and other past Rangers were called back into action on a faraway planet; and, though the battle with Void Queen had obliterated the brunt of their firepower, their remaining Dino Keys almost gave them an upper hand. But with an ally turned traitor, other allies sucked out of commission, and Zayto somehow MIA, the battle soon headed back to Earth, where Zedd crushes Dinohenge and the source of the Dino Keys' power. The Rangers have no chance but to escape, with only a scant few of the Dino Keys left.
Using what remains of their power, veteran Ranger and technologist Billy Cranston helps the remaining Dino Fury Rangers recover new Zords and reconnects the team to the Morphin Grid by resonating a Dino Key with Morphin Master Red's staff.
