This article is about an episode in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

Day of the Dumpster is an unaired pilot episode of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, originally filmed in 1992.[1] The existence of this episode would not be publicly revealed until 15 years after the premiere of the official first episode, "Day of the Dumpster" by Tony Oliver during a panel at Power Morphicon.

Synopsis[]

Five teenagers, who hang out at a juice bar, and occasionally use their karate skills to fend off a gang of mean bullies, are summoned to save the world by an intergalactic being named Zordon. He gives them the power to become Power Rangers, and to call upon giant dinosaur robots called Zords to combat the forces of space witch Rita Repulsa.

Plot[]

The teens are hanging out at the juice bar. Zack and Jason are clowning around, then turn their attention to Kimberly. While grabbing a giant bowl of Ernie's famous chili the bowl accidentally slips, getting chili all over a nearby Bulk. Bulk approaches Kimberly, and demands some form of payment, and Kimberly objects. A fight ensues with Bulk's thugs, and Trini lays Bulk out on the floor. Zack and Jason shows one of the thugs some of his moves, just before kicking him down. Kimberly breaks free, and sends the girl thug flying beneath Bulk's feet. In retreat, Bulk and Skull fall into some plastic trash cans.

Meanwhile, on the Moon, two astronauts open a mysterious container. The container holds Rita Repulsa, and she is now free. She wastes no time in attacking Earth. Zordon senses that Rita has returned, and tells Alpha to initiate plan B. Alpha locates five worthy candidates to become Power Rangers, and teleports them to the Command Center. Zordon explains to them the situation, and what they must do to defend Earth, giving them Transmorphers.

The teens aren't convinced, and they leave the Command Center. Rita sees them, and sends down Putties, who easily defeat the Rangers. Seeing it as their only escape, the Rangers pull out their Transmorphers. They are transformed for the first time into Power Rangers! They are teleported to downtown Angel Grove, where they fight an army of Putties and Goldar. The "Two Face Terror" monster is sent into battle and transformed into a giant. The Rangers call on the Megazord and are briefly frozen in ice and snow. After spinning free of their icy imprisonment they destroy the "Two Face Terror" with the Megazord's Power Sword. The Rangers celebrate their first victory back at the Command Center. A legend is born...

Cast[]

Production[]

  • to be added

Errors[]

  • Goldar is supposed to be down on Earth, however when the scene cuts to Rita's moon base he can be seen behind Rita who is about to throw her wand to Earth, which makes Two Face Terror grow.
  • After Rita says "I think we should pay the Earth a visit and then destroy it", she blasts the Earth but is suddenly much bigger and the sky around her has shifted from a pure blue sky to a light brown green.
  • Jason is near a cave when he calls his Zord despite just being in the city.

Notes[]

  • Trini is portrayed by Thuy Trang in the second pilot.
  • Bulk is now the leader of the gang of thugs and Jason Narvy appears as Skull.
  • The entirety of the dumpster scene, starting from the astronauts reacting to the newly released crew, was recycled for the aired episode.
  • A portion of the scene where Kimberly accidentally dumps chili onto Bulk was used in the episode "Big Sisters".
  • The Megazord and monster footage from Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger that was used for this second pilot would eventually be utilized for the monster Goatan from the episode "Lions & Blizzards.
  • Tony Oliver would premier footage from this second pilot at a panel at the very first Power Morphicon in 2007.
  • Adrian Carr would eventually upload the second pilot in its entirety on Youtube.[2]
  • The scene of the Rangers teleporting for the first time in the Youth Center ended up being a part of the first season's opening.
