Icon-megarangerThis article is about a/an two-part episode in Power Rangers in Space, the last installment in the Zordon Era.

Dark Specter's Revenge is the two-part episode and the twenty-ninth & thirtieth episodes of Power Rangers in Space. It is the conclusion of the five-part story arc, leading to the debut of Cyborg Ecliptor & Cyborg Astronema. This also marks the first appearance of Zhane's Zord, the Mega Winger as well as the Winged Mega Voyager.

Synopsis[]

Dark Specter wants Astronema back, and to accomplish this, he sends an asteroid on a collision course with Earth. Astronema sneaks aboard the Dark Fortress to divert the asteroid's course, but she is captured and reverted to being evil, while a returning Zhane assists the Power Rangers in destroying the asteroid with a new Zord.

Plot[]

Part 1[]

Andros takes Karone around the Astro Megaship and offers her a meal from the synthetron. Karone politely declines and admits that it will take a while to get used to her new surroundings. Also, Karone is worried that the other Rangers will never forgive her for all the terrible things she did as Astronema. Just then, D.E.C.A. calls Karone down to the bridge so the other Rangers can speak with her. After much deliberation, the Rangers have decided to make Karone an honorary Power Ranger after the heroic actions on Utopa. Karone is presented with her own purple Megaship jumpsuit as the Rangers welcome her with open arms.

At the Dark Fortress, Ecliptor recovers from the battle to leave his room, only to be ambushed by a squad of Quantrons. They dogpile on Ecliptor and drag him to the infirmary, strapping him down to a medical table. Darkonda arrives in medical gear, planning to perform an attitude adjustment on Ecliptor as he activates a surgical drill. Once finished, Darkonda tells Dark Specter that Ecliptor will never betray them again. Dark Specter is pleased about this and sets off on his own plan to destroy the Rangers and Earth as payback for taking Astronema away from him.

Back on Earth, Bulk, Skull and Professor Phenomenus are in the desert looking for aliens. Bulk and Skull are tired of being dragged out to the desert every night as they found nothing so far, but Phenomenus urges them to be patient. Then, Phenomenus sees an asteroid from the telescope towards them. Bulk and Skull are excited by this, but Phenomenus explains why this is terrible. The asteroid is huge, and if it hit the Earth, it would have an impact of several hydrogen bombs. That would mean worldwide destruction, causing the trio to become horrified.

Back on the Astro Megaship, Karone comes out in her new jumpsuit and is given warm compliments by the team. Later, the asteroid moves past the ship, but the Rangers were able to move away from it before they collided with it. Dark Specter contacts them, demanding they return Karone to him or else. Andros argues that Dark Specter kidnapped Karone in the first place, and Ashley says that his asteroid missed them. However, Dark Specter tells them that the asteroid is heading to Earth, and unless they give him Karone, it will be destroyed. Alpha 6 sadly confirms this, and the Rangers set a course to the asteroid, planning to destroy it before it reaches Earth.

The Rangers fire the Mega Lasers at the asteroid, but it did not leave a scratch on it. Deciding to go closer, the Rangers head down to the asteroid's surface and lay detonators all over the place. Before T.J. and Cassie set the final two detonators, the Velocifighters attack them and force the Rangers into hiding. Darkonda and the Quantrons teleport down and attack the Rangers. While Andros fights them off alone, T.J. plants the final two detonators as Carlos leads the girls to the Mega V Zords to take on the Velocifighters. The trio destroys the Velocifghters with the Zords as T.J. sets the final detonator. They summon their Mega V Zords for a quick escape and manage to get out before the detonators explode. However, even the detonators were not enough to destroy the asteroid, and it still heads down to Earth.

The Rangers regroup at the Astro Megaship, dismayed that the detonators did not destroy the asteroid. As they scramble for a new plan, Karone says she has one. She believes that because Dark Specter sent the asteroid, it was programmed to hit Earth. Karone offers to sneak onto the Dark Fortress and reprogram the asteroid, but Andros is against it as he does not want to lose her again. However, Karone says they do not have any other choices, making Andros and the others reluctantly agree to the plan.

Back on Earth, Bulk, Skull, and Professor Phenomenus arrive at NASADA to warn General Norquist about the asteroid. They cut him off at the parking lot and tell Norquist about the asteroid despite getting apprehended by the guards.

Meanwhile, the Rangers go ahead with Karone's plan as she sneaks onto the Dark Fortress disguised as Astronema. She makes her way to the main control room to reprogram the asteroid. Before Karone can reprogram it, Ecliptor arrives and confronts her. Karone is horrified to see that Ecliptor was given cybernetic enhancements and made into Dark Specter's loyal servant. Ecliptor takes Karone away, cutting the Rangers off from contact. As Andros stresses over his sister's fate, General Norquist sends the Rangers a message about the asteroid, begging them to help save the Earth. T.J. convinces Andros to focus on the asteroid now as they still have one more plan to try and stop the asteroid: use every Megazord they have in their arsenal to push it back.

As General Norquist gives a press conference to warn Angel Grove about the asteroid's potential havoc, Professor Phenomenus is left in fear over the fate of the Earth. Meanwhile, the Rangers bring out all three of their Megazords to stop the asteroid. They summon the Astro Megazord, the Delta Megazord, and the Mega Voyager to try and push the asteroid away from Earth's orbit. Despite putting all their thrusters onto full power, it is still not enough to push the asteroid away. As Angel Grove citizens panic, Bulk, Skull, and Phenomenus steal an experimental spacecraft to save themselves from the asteroid. Ecliptor and Darkonda watch the asteroid inching closer to Earth as the Rangers try valiantly to save their planet.

Part 2[]

As the asteroid reaches Earth's atmosphere, the Rangers continue to try and push it away before it impacts the planet. All seems hopeless until Ashley notices a new energy source coming towards them. It's a new Megazord with a returning Zhane as the pilot. With the help of Zhane's new Zord, the Mega Winger, the Rangers have enough power to push the asteroid away from the Earth and prevent mass extinction. Everyone on the planet is ecstatic that the Power Rangers saved them.

Zhane is welcomed back to the team on the Astro Megaship as Carlos asks him how he acquired the Mega Winger. Zhane reveals that the KO-35 rebels built it for him. However, the reunion is cut short as D.E.C.A. announces the location of the Dark Fortress. Zhane finds out from the Rangers that Astonema was Karone the entire time and that she went back to the Dark Fortress to try and help them with the asteroid. With the coordinates in hand, Andros plans to go to the Dark Fortress and get Karone back. Zhane joins Andros as he has his own interest in Karone.

Meanwhile, Bulk, Skull, and Professor Phenomenus crash land on what they believe is a mysterious planet and look for shelter.

Andros and Zhane follow a Velocifighter on their Galaxy Gliders and hop onto it. The unaware Quantron flies to the Dark Fortress with the two stowaway Rangers, and they manage to sneak their way through the hanger without getting caught. After a quick demorph, Andros finds out that Zhane went out on a date with Karone, but the latter argues it wasn't real. As the two move through the Fortress, Darkonda orders Elgar to put the ship on lockdown as he knows the Rangers could be after Karone. Andros and Zhane apprehend two Quantrons and disguise themselves as the two. The disguise fools Elgar, and they move through to the control room.

They make it to the control room and find Karone in her chair. At first, Andros and Zhane are relieved to see Karone safe and sound. However, that relief soon vanishes as Karone swivels from her chair and reveals cybernetic enhancements on her face. Karone has been forcibly turned back into Astronema, and the latter orders Ecliptor to attack them. Andros tries to get through to his sister, but Astronema discards the name Karone as Quantrons apprehend Andros. Zhane and Andros fight Ecliptor and the Quantrons in the control room, but the former knows they must leave before becoming prisoners. Andros refuses to leave Karone behind, but he reluctantly agrees with Zhane. The two fight their way out of the Dark Fortress and defeat several Quantrons along the way. When the two get surrounded, they morph to even the odds and make it to the hanger. Zhane gets into a Velocifighter as well as Andros gets into another, and they fly out of the Fortress. Andros and Zhane return to the Astro Megaship, but the former is not happy that Karone was brainwashed back into Astronema.

Meanwhile, Bulk, Skull, and Professor Phenomenus are still in the desert and find a payphone with a shoe on it. They realize that they were on Earth the entire time, and they spot Angel Grove from a distance. Suddenly, Frightwing appears, having received orders from Astronema to destroy the trio as he believes they are the Rangers. The real Rangers get an alert from D.E.C.A., and they head down to Earth to save Bulk, Skull, and Phenomenus. They morph and confront Frightwing, protecting the trio in the process. Even with the six Rangers attacking Frightwing, the monster is able to handle them with ease until Andros lands a powerful kick to knock him down.

Astronema orders the Satellasers fired on Frightwing, growing the monster into a giant. Andros calls for the Mega Voyager, but cables from the ground trap the Megazord and leave the Rangers defenseless against Frightwing's attacks. After Andros inputs a massive power boost to the arms, they manage to free themselves, but Frightwing says he is not done yet. As he attacks with flight, the Rangers cannot lock on with the Mega V3 Missile. Zhane launches the Mega Winger from its hanger and flies to counter Frightwing. Then, Zhane transforms the Mega Winger to its Megazord mode and attacks Frightwing with the Wing Blaster. Seeing that he was outmatched, Frightwing flies away from the battle. However, Zhane reveals a new trick the Mega Winger can do: detaching the wing from its back and attaching it to the Mega Voyager. This forms the Winged Mega Voyager, allowing the Rangers to fly and catch up with Frightwing. With a clear shot, they fire the Mega V3 Missile at Frightwing, destroying the monster.

With Frightwing destroyed, the Rangers meet up with Bulk, Skull, and Professor Phenomenus. The trio thank the Rangers for saving them, and they receive a lift back home on the Galaxy Gliders, Bulk with Zhane on the Silver Cycle in Glider mode, Skull with T.J. and Phenomenus with Andros. Meanwhile, Darkonda warns Astronema that with Zhane’s return and the debut of the Mega Winger, the balance of power is now in favor of the Rangers. Darkonda suggests adding more power to their fleet, but Astornema banishes Darkonda from the Dark Fortress. Darkonda takes his leave but warns Astronema that he still has multiple lives compared to her one.

On the Astro Megaship, D.E.C.A. has completed her analysis of the device on Karone's face. The cybernetics are suppressing her emotions, and she's no longer in control of her body. Zhane says he's never met a computer program that didn't have a glitch in it somewhere. However, Andros swears that he will get Karone back from Dark Specter no matter what.

Cast[]

Zords[]

Errors[]

  • Professor Phenomenus refers to General Norquist as "Commander Norquist".
  • For some reason the Rangers didn't try using the Megazords to stop the asteroid before sacrificing Karone.
  • For some reason the Rangers didn't morph up and head over to the Dark Fortress together to stop the asteroid.
  • It's strange why Karone didn't try to teleport herself out from the Dark Fortress when she was caught inside by Ecliptor.
  • During the attempt to move the asteroid, Andros is shown in the Astro Megazord's cockpit when he was actually piloting the Mega Voyager.
  • Unusually there is a payphone in the middle of the desert.
  • The shuttle is missing in the Megaship during the first scene.
  • When Frightwing flies around the Mega Voyager wires can be seen moving him in the air.
