Plot[]

"Five stars, shining in the heavens! Gosei Sentai Dairanger!"
―Team roll call[src]

Over 8,000 years ago, the Daos civilization flourished in Southern China. The Daos Empire consisted in three tribes: Dai, Shura (ancestors of today's humanity) and Gorma who lived harmoniously. However, one day the Gorma Tribe tried to take over the Empire. Thus began the war between the Gorma and the Dai Tribe. The battle continued for 5,000 years, led by the Gorma Triumvirate. The Mythical Qi Beasts appeared to oppose the Gorma, whose magical powers had increased to the point where they could turn themselves into monsters. Five Dai warriors' Qi powers had increased to the point where they could control the Mythical Qi Beasts. The war ended with the disappearance of both the Dai and Gorma Tribes. In 1993, the Gorma Tribe, one of the Daos' two missing branches, revived to take over the world. To counter them, Master Kaku assembled a team of five youths with high levels of Qi. They became the Dairangers of present time.

Use in Power Rangers[]

With the popularity of the first season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the series moved forward with a second season. Due to all Zyuranger footage having been used up, Haim Saban chose to adapt Dairanger and was given all of its footage. However due to the Zyuranger suits being at the height of its popularity, he decided to not adapt the Dairanger suits, instead commissioning Toei for Zyu2 footage, in which Japan shot footage of the Zyuranger suits fighting Dairanger monsters and piloting Dairanger mecha. The only exception to the un-adapted Dairanger suits is KibaRanger, who was fully adapted into the second season and beyond as Tommy Oliver's second Ranger identity, the White Ranger.

Though Saban had the footage to Dairanger, they tried for years to find a way to use it as late as Power Rangers Lost Galaxy, but eventually they gave up. [3] There were rumors that the suits were to be adapted as "ancient Rangers" serving as the predecessors to the Galaxy Rangers, though plans likely changed due to Valerie Vernon's leukemia diagnosis.[Citation needed] Despite the non-usage of the suits, the Aura Changer was repurposed as the Magna Defender Morpher, used by Mike Corbett to morph into the Magna Defender. The costume for Gorma XV was used for Master Org in Power Rangers Wild Force.

The Dairanger team logo was seen amongst Tommy's files in the Power Rangers Dino Thunder episode "Bully for Ethan".

During early-production of Power Rangers Super Megaforce, which was an adaptation of Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger, early casting sides for the show used the Dairanger characters and gave them the name Power Rangers Star Force. Though the name was never used in the show, the suits were adapted as the Squadron Rangers through Gokaiger footage as one of the Mega Rangers' "New Powers", establishing the Dairanger and all the pre-Zyuranger suits as Power Ranger teams not from contemporary Earth. The origin of the Squadron Rangers were later faithfully explored in the Boom! Studios comic series Power Rangers Universe, with their lore being closely related to Morphin Masters and the Emissaries Three.
