Cyborg Rangers is the seventh episode of Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue. It features the only appearance of the Cyborg Rangers.

Synopsis[]

The higher command of Lightspeed, led by General McKnight, wants to eliminate the human error factor of protecting Mariner Bay. A team of robotic Lightspeed Rescue Rangers, known as the Cyborg Rangers, are dispatched to do the job, when the human Rangers are relieved of duty after failing against the Strikning monster. But thanks to the demon's lightning strikes, the Cyborgs malfunction and turn against their controller! Can the replaced Rangers come out of retirement in time to save the city from its own technology?

Plot[]

In the downtown area of Mariner Bay, Strikning leads the Batlings in an assault, terrorizing civilians with his spikes and electricity. The Rangers arrive to escort the civilians before taking on the demon and the Batlings. Strikning overwhelms the team with his abilities and deems them pathetic against him. Before taking out Carter, Strikning is blasted away by an unknown force. To everyone's shock, the saviors are exact copies of the Rangers but with black boots, black gloves, and antennas. Strikning charges at the copies, only to be overwhelmed by their might and retreats. The Rangers try to thank the new Rangers for their help, but they ignore them and walk towards a vehicle that is owned by Lightspeed personnel. The lead scientist introduces the team to the Cyborg Rangers, using a control panel to move them back into the vehicle and drive off.

Ms. Fairweather tells Captain Mitchell that the Cyborg Rangers were not her doing, making the latter wonder who created them. Then, General McKnight, Mitchell's superior, comes in and reveals that he green-lit the Cyborg Ranger's creation. McKnight deems the Cyborg Rangers more reliable than Mitchell's team due to their robotic nature and says they would never make human errors to defeat the demons. The Rangers arrive and believe that the Cyborg Rangers will help them defeat Diabolico, but McKnight reveals the real reason for the robots' creation: they are meant to replace the team as Mariner Bays' new protectors. Mitchell argues against the idea, but McKnight does not think the team the former formed is strong enough compared to the Cyborg Rangers. The team is relieved of duty, and they reluctantly hand over their Rescue Morphers to the general, who believes that the Cyborg Rangers are the future.

In the Skull Cavern, Loki screams at Impus when the latter is restless, though Jinxer believes he misses his mother: Queen Bansheera. Diabolico hopes that Queen Bansheera returns quickly as, with her power, they can destroy Mariner Bay.

Meanwhile, Ms. Fairweather charges the Cyborg Rangers as General McKnight boasts about their skills. Fairweather argues that the Cyborg Rangers lack a heart and storms out of the room.

In the city, the Rangers ponder their next move as Chad asks Carter if what General McKnight said was true about the Cyborg Rangers. Carter is unsure about the answer. Suddenly, Strikning returns and attacks civilians at a nearby building. The Cyborg Rangers teleport down to attack Strikning as the main scientist directs them through his control panel. At first, the Cyborg Rangers overpower Strikning as McKnight watches with pride in the Aquabase. However, Strikning fires lightning spikes at the Cyborg Rangers’ feet and launches a thunderbolt towards them. The blast knocks the Cyborg Rangers off their feet as Strikning teleports away.

Seeing the battle from afar, the Rangers decide to investigate despite being relieved of duty. The main scientist checks on the Cyborg Rangers, who rise and turn against them. It turns out that Strikning's thunder fried their circuitry, and they are not responding to the control panel. Even the self-destruct function fails to work, as General McKnight laments over the project's failure. The Cyborg Rangers chase after the scientists and eventually surround them, only for the Rangers to rescue them. Before they prepare to fight, Mitchell comes by in the Rescue Rover and tosses the team their Rescue Morphers.

With their Morphers back, the Rangers morph and take on their robotic counterparts. Despite the Cyborg Rangers' durability and superior weaponry, the Rangers manage to take them out individually and deactivate them. Once the Cyborg Rangers are destroyed, Strikning returns and attacks the team. However, they have grown wise to Strikning's tricks and use a combo attack to overwhelm him before destroying him with the Rescue Bird in Unilaser Mode. Jinxer arrives to resurrect Strikning and grow him, forcing Carter to summon the Rail Rescues for the Rescue Zords. They form the Lightspeed Megazord and use the Ladder Arms as conductors to send Strikning's lightning attack back at him when he strikes them with his spikes. Then, they use the Lightspeed Megazord Saber to vanquish Strikning.

Back at the Aquabase, General McKnight apologizes for underestimating the Rangers' abilities and heart, believing that Captain Mitchell made a wise choice. McKnight promises never to interfere with Mitchell's mission again, and leaves with the science team.

Cast[]

Errors[]

  • A human face is seen when the Red Cyborg lowers his visor.
  • The robot Rangers are called cyborgs, when android should have been more accurate as a cyborg is typically half organic and half mechanical.
  • The scene where General McKnight angrily smacks his baton, he starts turning around as he did moments earlier, indicated that the shots had been altered.

Notes[]

  • This episode has a similar plot to Ep. 5: Finish It! This Is an Underhanded Battle from Denji Sentai Megaranger in the sense where the higher-ups of the organization the team worked for attempts to intervene due to the lack of confidence of their ability to defeat the enemy. The only difference is their attempt to gain control of the team's mecha by installing an AI System, which like in this episode, their plan backfires forcing the team to regain control.
