"Prepare to die, Tetsuzan!"
―Commander Hedder's final words before his death.

Commander Hedder (ヘッダー指揮官 Heddā Shikikan), also spelled Hedda is the follower of Satan Egos and commands the army of the Cutmen. Near the end of the series he became Hedder Monster (ヘッダー怪人 Heddā Kaijin).

History[]

Showdown with Tetsuzan[]

Commanderhedder

After mastering the martial art of Jashin Style, Hedder attempted to force General Kurama Tetsuzan into fighting him by kidnapping and threatening the lives of his allies Keiko and Masaru Nakahara. Tetsuzan eventually showed up and the two fought. Although blinded, Tetzusen was able to kill Hedder. Tvicon TV STORY-Ep. 50: The Masked Demon Who Aims for the General

Resurrection[]

Hedder was later resurrected by Satan Egos as an Egos Monster with ESP powers. As the newly formed Hedder Monster he still possessed his flail and could regenerate and revive Egos robots. He then resurrected multiple robots to assist him in his fight against Battle Fever Robo. Fortunately for Team Battle Fever, they realized he was controlling the Robos and defeated him, though his eye survived and attached itself to Battle Kenya's boot. It then resurrected itself and went to fight Tetsuzen once again. Hedder revealed he had explosives strapped to his body and threatened to blow them up. Kyutaro, however, revealed a secret freezing spray and froze Hedder Monster. Battle Fever then took the frozen kaijin outside and destroyed him, only for him to escape into Hedder Robot, armed with a flail, a knife, and reinforced armor. With an extra power boost, Battle Fever Robo is able to destroy Hedder, finally killing the Commander once and for all. Tvicon TV STORY-Ep. 51: Egos' Revival Ceremony

Behind the Scenes[]

Portrayal[]

Commander Hedder was initially portrayed by the late Kenji Ushio (潮 健児 Ushio Kenji), who previously portrayed Baron Iron Mask in J.A.K.Q. Dengekitai vs. Gorenger, in the first seven episodes [1] of Battle Fever J. He was replaced by the late Masashi Ishibashi (石橋 雅史 Ishibashi Masashi), who previously portrayed Boss Iron Claw in J.A.K.Q. Dengekitai, for the remainder of the series.

Design[]

  • Commander Hedder were designed by character designer Muneo Kubo.
  • His appears to be based on a Sohei (Warrior Monk).
  • “I first heard that Kenji Ushio was going to play this role, so I drew it based on the image of Ushio's face when he was in a rage. The kesa he wears is a "mechanic's kesa," so to speak, and he fights with a dagger attached to his chest. Later, Mr. Masashi Ishibashi replaced Mr. Ushio as Hedder, and it turned out to be quite a dynamic Hedder. At the end of the film, he fights General Tetsuzan with a key claw. It was a departure from the initial monkish image, but I thought it was a good idea. Mr. Ishibashi's head is not rounded, so the second generation Hedder has the connection between the main wig and the skin of the head covered with a decoration, which was also requested by producer Itaru Orita, and for which I drew a new design" (Kubo)
  • "Before I drew the Money Violence Monster, I had drawn a rough design of a monster with faces all over its body, and that idea was adopted when I made the Hedder Monster. When it came time to make Hedder into a monster, that idea was adopted. So, based on that rough design, I redrew the monster's face to look like Hedder and completed it.” (Kubo)
