Commander Aya Odagiri (小田切 綾 Odagiri Aya) is the commander of Jetman.

History[]

Aya Odagiri was the developer of the Jetman project. She hand - picked Ryu Tendo and his girlfriend Rie Aoi, alongside three other members of Skyforce to become Chojin Sentai Jetman. As soon as Ryu finished receiving his Birdonic Wave, Vyram's battleship appeared, attacking the Skyforce's orbital base, and Rie was sucked into space as a consequence. The remaining amount of Birdonic Wave escaped to Earth, striking four random civilians there. Aya took Ryu back to their planet and exaplained to him his responsibility as the Jetman's field leader Red Hawk. Insisting that her subordinate must remain strong, Aya ordered him to go out to find and recruit the four remaining Jetmen.

Once the full team assembled, Aya took it upon herself to train Raita Oishi, Kaori Rokumeikan and Ako Hayasaka in martial arts. She also taught all five of them how to use their Jet machines and combine them into giant robo Jet Icarus. Due to the friction resulting from their wildly differing personality traits and backgrounds, however, Aya had considerable difficulty when instructing them.

In a plot to expose the Jetman's weaknesses, the Vyram created Vending Machine Dimension, which transformed Ryu into a lazy bum, Gai a more straightforward hero, Raita a playboy, Ako an overly sensitive girl, and Kaori a spoiled materialist. Aya personally had to bring Ryu back to normal, which succeeded when she threw him down from her helicopter , crashing straight into the monster, deactivating its ability and saving her team.

When the warriors from the Back Dimension arrived, Aya worked hard with them and her team to combine their Mecha - Bird Garuda - with Jet Icarus, so that they could beat Radiguet's Destruction Beast Semimaru. All the hard work paid off, the team's most powerful robo - Great Icarus - was born and successfully destroyed Semimaru.

Seeing that battles against Vyram were only going to get more and more intense, even with Great Icarus's assistance, Aya designed another new robo - Tetraboy - and built it together with her team. This was not a peaceful period for her, though, as tensions between Gai and Ryu reached the boiling point, driving the former to leave the team with Kaori. Ryu also had a mental breakdown after learning the truth behind Maria's identity, further complicating matters. Aya pushed on with Raita and Ako, eventually completing Tetraboy. After defeating the Majins, the team reunited, much stronger and more unified than before, to Aya's delight.

At one point after this, Vyram's Sticky Cockroach rendered the Jetman's Fire Bazooka unusable, and was too durable for their other weapons to completely destroy. Aya introduced the Beak Smasher to the team, but she had not completed its design yet due to missing blueprints. She sent Ryu to contact Dr. Aizawa for the rest of the documents. Despite some initial difficulties with the scientist's daughter Mika, Aya was able to retrieve the remaining blueprints and perfect the Beak Smashers, allowing her team access to another powerful weapon.

Aya later took the Jetman on a vacation as rewards for their hard work. Their vacation was not an entirely happy one, though, as Vyram's monsters still attacked them while off - duty. She even had to bear witness to the advent of Emperor Tranza, who showed off his superior power to her team, nearly killing Ryu. Due to infighting between him and Radiguet, however, she was able to save Ryu.

Radiguet wanted to usurp Tranza, so he created Meteor BEM, which rendered the Jetmen powerless and unable to transform. It was at this point that Aya's superior Supreme Commander Akira Ichijou entered the picture. Bringing the Neo - Jetman with him, Akira relieved all five of her team of their duty against their wishes, in favour of his own squad. Knowing this was only a personal attack on her, Aya requested to be discharged as well, but Akira turned her down out of spite. Aya ultimately had to retake command, even over her superior's Neo - Jetman, due to his callousness and poor leadership towards them.

During one of the Jetman's training sessions, Aya received some flowers from an unknown source. Leech Drill was hiding among the flowers when she smelled them, thus it got inside her body and took control of her. Under the monster's influence, Aya sabotaged the Jetman's weapons, tortured the Jetmen under false pretenses, and even attempted to destroy their Cross Changer. Once her team had driven Leech Drill out of her body, Aya piloted the Jet Garuda into battle, finishing off the monster by herself.

In due time, Tranza released his ultimate creation - Majin Robo Veronica - in an effort to destroy the Jetmen for good. The robo proved to be more powerful than even the Great Icarus, forcing Aya to make adjustments to Tetraboy as a countermeasure. Her work allowed Tetraboy to ride Great Icarus's Bird Maser beam in an attack that pierced through Veronica, destroying it.

After Tranza's defeat, Radiguet managed to grow more powerful than him and seized control of the Vyram. In the Jetmen's final battle with Radiguet's monster form Raguem, Aya piloted the Jet Garuda and joined them in person. Following a tough fight, which resulted in the destruction of Tetraboy and Bird Garuda, Raguem was finally vanquished, ending the Vyram's threat permanently. Aya noted that their victory was the beginning of a new era of peace.

Some time later, she attended Ryu and Kaori's wedding alongside the other Jetmen. She was given Kaori's bridal bouquet.

Personality[]

She is both caring and strict to the Jetman. Like Ryu, but to a greater extent, she believes that warriors under her should always put duty before their personal issues. She does not tolerate indolence, personally training the more inexperienced members in how to fight and use their gear effectively, so that they can contribute instead of becoming the load. As a stern commanding officer, Aya is willing to discipline her team by force should the need arise. By her own admission, she can be very scary, something which her team agrees with.

Despite Aya's tendency to be tough, if somewhat harsh, towards the Jetman, the most important thing to her is the life of her subordinates, so much that she is willing to fight in the line of fire if necessary. She also critical of senseless sacrifices. Aya never forces her team to fight to the death, instead always ordering them to retreat to make new plans whenever a battle becomes too tough. This earns her the trust of not only the Jetman, but also that of their opposing faction - the Neo - Jetman - once they see how she values their lives. Her stance on the matter naturally puts her at odds with her superior, Supreme Commander Akira Ichijou, who only sees the warriors as nothing more than expendable soldiers. Aya is ready to challenge her senior officer to protect her (and even his own) squad.

Although Aya requires her team to be fully committed to their duty, she can be quite understanding. She has spent time talking to Ako's high school friend Kyoko, showing her the necessity of Ako's work as Blue Swallow so that the two would not lose their friendship. When Ryu has a mental breakdown once aware of Maria's identity, she does not force him to resume fighting as Red Hawk immediately. In fact, whenever not in training or on active duty, she mostly allows the Jetmen to carry on with their personal lives and habits. She supports Gai and Kaori's relationship, only scolding them when it makes them arrive late to aid the team. On one occasion, she even takes the Jetman on a short vacation for them to fully relax and rest after a long period of fighting.

Her subordinates call her "Chōkan".

Powers and Abilities[]

Abilities[]

She is good at martial arts, able to train the inexperienced Jetmen Ako, Raita and Kaori, who have essentially become superhumans already, thanks to the Birdonic Waves.

Proficient with the Jetman's gears and mecha, Aya has invented the Tetraboy and Beak Smashers, both of which have proven essential to their success against Vyram's monsters. She is capable of making adjustments to the robot, so that it can combine with the Great Icarus to perform a powerful attack, which allows the team to destroy Tranza's ultimate creation - Majin Robo Veronica.

Besides upgrading and maintaining, Aya can also pilot the team's mecha rather well. She has once controlled Bird Garuda to fight and defeat Leech Drill on her own. She has even personally joined the Jetman in their last fight against Raguem, and played a part in the villain's final defeat.

Arsenal[]

She pilots the Jet Garuda when necessary such as in the final battle.
