Logo-supersentaiThis article is about a set of rangers in the Super Sentai series.

These are the Sentai Sixth Rangers, officially known as Sixth Hero (6人目のヒーロー Rokuninme no Hīrō)[1][2][3][4]. They are a subset of Additional Rangers or Heroes, and on occassion referred to simply as that. After 2 unofficial prototypes, the first Sixth Ranger appeared in Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger. There have been 32 official sixth Rangers, including 1 replacement. They generally debut around the 17th episode of their respective series, but there have been exceptions.

It should also be noted that being a Sixth Ranger is not necessarily a numeric designation (eg, AbareKiller was the fifth member of his respective team) but rather that they serve as a "supplementary" teammate. In series where a Sixth Ranger is absent, an Extra Hero (Kakurangers' Ninjaman, Carrangers' Signalman, Gingaman's Black Knight) will frequently serve in their place. Unlike the Main Rangers, they are dressed uniquely.

Chronological List of Sixth Rangers

Official

  • Yamato Tribe Knight Burai is DragonRanger in Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger, and is the first, fully fledged Sixth Ranger of a Sentai team. The older brother of the Yamato Tribe Prince Geki/TyrannoRanger, his family was broken when the royalty of the Yamato tribe killed his father the Black Knight for Geki's adoption, with Burai going into self-exile for their actions. Awaken from his long sleep by Ryota and the other Zyurangers, he would start as a tremendous enemy for the Zyurangers, with Bandora enflaming his already strong hate and resentment by guiding him to a cursed sword that ramped up his negativity, before joining them. Burai was killed during an earthquake sometime during his sealing, forcing Daizyuzin to intervene by making a deal with the Spirit of Life Clotho to give him an extension to his life in the form of a green candle that burned while Burai was out of the cave, which eventually burned away.
  • Kou of the Howling New Star is KibaRanger in Gosei Sentai Dairanger. A playful young boy who would love to be a hero. His story would develop more when the secret behind the mark on his arm is revealed.
  • Riki is KingRanger in Choriki Sentai Ohranger. The protector of the Princess Dorin. He is the legendary hero who he chased Bacchus off Pangea, 600 million years ago.
  • Yusaku Hayakawa is MegaSilver in Denji Sentai Megaranger. The chief of INET's Space Mega Project. Willing to fight alongside the Megarangers, he stole the prototype of their battle suits in order to help them.
  • Naoto Takizawa is TimeFire in Mirai Sentai Timeranger. The cocky rival of Tatsuya Asami/TimeRed. He rapidly became the leader of the City Guardians, because of the fact he is TimeFire. He would later be mortally wounded by a single Zenit shooting him while outside his transformation. In his dying moments, he relinquished TimeFire's gear to Tatsuya to ensure they were not abused by the City Guardians' higher ups.
    • Captain Ryuya Asami was originally TimeFire, making Naoto technically TimeFire II. Ryuya relinquished the TimeFire gear and sent it into the past after he had discovered a prophecy that TimeFire would die, hoping for someone else to die in his place. While Naoto did in fact die from his wounds, like a Greek prophecy, Ryuya would end up dying too, having only changed the manner of his death: from his own gun when Ayase tried grabbing it from him.
  • Tsukumaro Ogami is GaoSilver in Hyakuju Sentai Gaoranger. He is a 1,062-year-old Gao Warrior from the Heian period. 1000 years ago, he accepted the Wolf Mask curse in order to defeat Ultimate Org Hyakkimaru but was lost to the Wolf Mask curse soon afterwards, taking up the identity of Duke Org Rouki. He has since been freed from his curse.
  • The original Shurikenger of Ninpu Sentai Hurricaneger was a star ninja who sacrificed his identity in order to protect Kagura, and to unite the Ninja Schools of Hayate and Ikazuchi. He was assumed to have died in a self-sacrificial ploy to stop the berserk Sixth Spear, Satarakura for good alongside his mech Tenkujin, but years after Jakanja was defeated, Shurikenger had appeared alive and well.
  • Mikoto Nakadai is AbareKiller in Bakuryu Sentai Abaranger. He is officially a Sixth Ranger, though he is technically the fifth member of his team. He was also an Evil Ranger for the longest time. An absolute medicinal genius but has a pathological need for stimulation and becoming AbareKiller was part of his solution. He would later die after Dezumozorlya's influence was removed from him and the Dino Minder self-destructed soon afterwards.
  • Tekkan Aira is DekaBreak in Tokuso Sentai Dekaranger, although he was technically the seventh Dekaranger to appear. He had stated out as a cocky member of the Tokkyou Unit, along with his superior Lisa Teegel/DekaBright). He would become gentler and learn about true teamwork when working with the Earth Branch Dekarangers.
  • Heavenly Saint Sungel (Hikaru) is MagiShine in Mahou Sentai Magiranger. A Heavenly Saint who fought Raigel, who transformed him into a frog. A kiss from what would later be his future wife Urara Ozu/MagiBlue, would be the only way to undo this spell. Now he teaches everything he knows about magic to the other Magirangers. He is the first non-human Sixth Ranger, as well as the sixth Ranger of the Veteran Sentai.
  • Eiji Takaoka is Bouken Silver in GoGo Sentai Boukenger. Coming from the Ashu Hunter family, the Takaoka, Satoru Akashi/Bouken Red convinced him to become Bouken Silver, to fight against his curse due to his half-Ashu ancestry.
  • The Go-On Wings siblings, older brother Hiroto Suto/Go-On Gold and younger sister Miu/Go-On Silver are both officially considered the sixth rangers of Engine Sentai Go-Onger as well as their own team within the Go-Ongers. From the rich Sutou family, they are also hardcore level sportsmen, who had been chosen by their respective Engines Toripter and Jetras in order to defend Earth.
  • Genta Umemori is Shinken Gold in Samurai Sentai Shinkenger. He is the childhood friend of Takeru Shiba/Shinken Red XVIII. An extrovert, he always walks around the city with his mobile sushi shop but is always there when a shiny Samurai needed.
  • The sentient Groundion Headder became Gosei Knight in Tensou Sentai Goseiger. After the Groundion Headder was lodged within a glacier in a previous battle with the Yuumajuu (under orders by his former master Brajira), Earth gave its benediction to the Groundion Headder because of his indomitable will to defend it, granting the Headder the Knightick Power. Now Gosei Knight, he tries to eliminate every track of pollution on this planet. Gosei Knight is also the first Sentai Ranger who originated as a mecha.
  • Gai Ikari is Gokai Silver in Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger. An extrovert Super Sentai fan, he is chosen by the 3 deceased Sixth Rangers (of the time) DragonRanger, TimeFire, and AbareKiller after a near death experience to become a new strong and intelligent ally for the Gokaigers, with the Gokai Silver powers being crafted by the deceased Sixths as well. With the Ranger Keys he is able to use the powers of the 15 Sixth Rangers before him and combine them into Gold Mode.
  • Masato Jin and Beet J Stag are Beet Buster and Stag Buster. They are officially Sixth Rangers despite them being the 4th and 5th members of Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters. Masato is Ryuji Iwasaki's (Blue Buster) mentor, who was warped in the hyperspace 13 years ago. He managed to create an avatar of himself, to aid the Go-Busters alongside J, his Buddyroid. Masato would later die in a self-sacrificial play to ensure Enter would be stopped for good.
  • Utsusemimaru is Kyoryu Gold in Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger. He was chosen by Wise God Torin and Zyudenryu Pteragordon 400 years ago during the Sengoku era to become Kyoryu Gold, and fought Deboth when they partially resurrected in that time period. He was trapped by Dogold and used as a corporal body for the sentient armor to use before being released by the modern-day Kyoryugers, who taught him how to live in modern Japan.
  • Akira Nijino is ToQ 6gou in Ressha Sentai ToQger. A rain-causing Shadow Monster originally named Zaram, he had worked for Shadow Line before witnessing the beauty of the rainbows. He decides to protect the Rainbow Line alongside the ToQgers since then and rechristening himself after the rainbow.
  • Kinji Takigawa is Star Ninger in Shuriken Sentai Ninninger. From an American Yokai Hunter family, he grew up learning Yoshitaka's Ninjutsu, in order to come back to Japan and avenge his family who were killed by Kibaoni's forces.
  • Misao Mondou is Zyuoh The World in Doubutsu Sentai Zyuohger. A human captured by the Deathgaliens and selected by Ginis, Misao underwent experiences under his "care" that led to the Zyuman Power of 3 captured Zyumen were fully infused within him at the expense of their lives. This allowed Misao to become the Extra Player for Ginis' game, with the explicit goal to combat the Zyuohgers. However, the Zyuohgers persuaded him to believe in himself rather than in Ginis once he broke free, making him their ally.
  • Tsurugi Otori is Houou Soldier in Uchu Sentai Kyuranger. A human from Earth who was the first to venture into outer space and was the leader of the first Kyurangers thousands of years in the past. He is formerly immortal and takes great pride in himself, regarding himself as "the legendary savior".
    • Much like the Beetle Busters, Houou Soldier's status as the season's Sixth Ranger despite being the 12th/final Kyuranger on the team is shown in Twokaizer × Gokaiger ~June Bride is Tanuki Flavor~, where he is included on the Gokai Cellular's Gokai Tsuiker Unit, as well as two separate interviews with Tsurugi and Shou Ronpo's actors being firm of Houou Soldier being the 6th.
  • Noël Takao is both Lupin X and Patren X at the same time in Kaitou Sentai Lupinranger VS Keisatsu Sentai Patranger. A GSPO French branch officer and the adoptive son of Arsène Lupin striving to complete the Lupin Collection to revive the slain Phantom Thief Arsène Lupin after the Gangler takeover, Noël is the first Sentai Ranger to have two Ranger forms to match his duality motif, with Lupin X being a Silver Ranger for the Lupinrangers and Patren X being a Gold Ranger for the Patrangers.
  • Canalo is RyusoulGold in Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger. Leader of the Sea Ryusoul Tribe and something of a penny pincher, Canalo looks for a bride to repopulate it, both at his own volition due to his tribe's low population and the urging of his people's guardian Kishiryu, MosaRex, who had initially been wary of the land Ryusoul tribes due to past civil wars mentally scarring the Kishiryu.
  • Takamichi Crystaria is Kiramai Silver in Mashin Sentai Kiramager. The adoptive Prince of Crystaria, older brother of Muryou Hakataminami, and a treasure hunter. He actually is seeking the Kanaema Stones in order to revive the destroyed Crystaria, and teamed up with the Kiramagers to reach their common goal. His age was slowed down dramatically as a result of treatment to prevent Takamichi from being subsumed by a Monstone, resulting in his younger brother aging ahead of Takamichi.
  • Zocks Goldtsuiker is Twokaizer in Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger. A World Pirate from Kaizokutopia, who was inspired by the Gokaigers. He and his younger sister Flint actually seeks a way to give back their little brothers Ricky and Cutanner their initial appearance after they were altered by SDtopia. Despite being on friendly enough terms with the Zenkaigers, the Goldtsuiker family never truly affiliated themselves with the Zenkaigers.
  • Jiro Momotani and Dangerous Jiro are Don Doragoku and Don Torabolt in Avataro Sentai Donbrothers. After being sent to earth as a baby, Jiro's inner voice and interactions with another hero inspired him to train himself, to become a self-proclaimed natural hero. However, this meeting actually created an additional personality, suppressing the original "dangerous" personality who wants to take down Taro and replace him as the leader of the Donbrothers. Dangerous Jiro was eventually separated from Doragoku Jiro.
  • Jeramie Brasieri is Spider Kumonos in Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger. The storyteller of the King-Ohger legend and was born from the forbidden love between a Human and a member of the Bug Naraku. He remains neutral during conflicts between the King-Ohgers and the Bug Naraku, with the goal of one day achieving peace between them. • Mashiro Kumade is GozyuPolar in No.1 Sentai Gozyuger. The previous contractor of the GozyuWolf Ring and the winner of the first Battle of the Rings and the ultimate savior during the climax of Universe War against the Abyssal Calamity Cladis 20 years prior to the start of the series. Following the war, Mashiro was petrified as a stone statue, rested in within a pocket in the Robo Graveyard where time flowed at a greater pace, making him experience 10,000 years. He later returns from his slumber after Queen TegaJune reset the world, remodeled it, and created GoodeBurn. He now seeks to win the second Battle of the Rings with GoodeBurn to become a god and take TegaSword's place, having decided that TegaSword had failed to uphold his end of the bargain of ensuring a peaceful world.

Unofficial

There are several Rangers and other Heroes that could be counted as Sixth Rangers, though they aren't officially classed as such. These normally appear in Sixth Ranger-less series, being the closest thing the series has to a Sixth Ranger.
  • Shota Yamamori is Magne Warrior in Chodenshi Bioman. He only appeared for two episodes and is the first of two test characters for later full-fledged Sixth Rangers.
  • Ryo Asuka is X1 Mask in Hikari Sentai Maskman. He only appeared in Episode 39 and is the second and final two test characters for later full-fledged Sixth Rangers.
  • Hyuga is the second Black Knight in Seiju Sentai Gingaman, the successor of original Black Knight, BullBlack. With Hyuga, his status is in limbo, as official material seems to be rather indecisive in confirming him as a Sixth Ranger or an Extra Hero. (see below in Notes)
  • Atsushi Domyoji is Green Hippopotamus, the Sixth Ranger of Doubutsu Sentai Go-Busters, an alternate-reality version of Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters. During a later "episode" in the reality of Doubutsu Sentai Go-Busters, Atsushi would be mortally wounded, dying in Yoko Usami/Yellow Rabbit's arms, as a tongue in cheek reference to Burai's death. In this case, it's not his status as the sixth ranger that's unofficial, but rather his team.
  • Hyuma Oura is GinHero in The High School Heroes. In this case, it's not his status as the sixth ranger that's unofficial, but rather his team.

Notes

  • As of Boukenger, the term 'Sixth Ranger' was officially used. It was used to refer to Bouken Silver during one of the 30 Sentai Encyclopedia segments highlighting all the previous Sixth Heroes.
  • From Magiranger to Donbrothers, Sixth Rangers would typically be either gold or silver, barring three notable exceptions, with other-colored Sixths becoming commonplace again beginning with King-Ohger. Following gold and silver, white would be the third most commonly used color amongst Sixth Rangers across Sentai history.

  • For years, there had been debates and discussions over whether Shou Ronpo (Ryu Commander) or Tsurugi Otori (Houou Soldier) were the Kyuranger Sixth Ranger. The debate was put to rest after Houou Soldier was officially confirmed to be Kyuranger's Sixth Ranger. This confirmation is supported by:
    • Hiroshi Kamiya (Shou Ronpo) and Keisuke Minami (Tsurugi), as they both gone on record during separate[5] interviews[6] declaring Houou Soldier as the Sixth Ranger.
    • Super Sentai Large Gathering! Find Your Hero!, where Houou Soldier is included along with other Sixth Rangers in the game.[7]
    • Twokaizer × Gokaiger ~June Bride is Tanuki Flavor~, where Houou Soldier's helmet appears on the Gokai Cellular's extender attachment Gokai Tsuiker Unit, as well as his inclusion and appearances on various legend sentai devices featuring Sixth Rangers.
    • Interestingly, Ryu Commander was once stated to be the Sixth Ranger of Kyuranger by Shin-ichiro Shirakura, an early advisor for Kyuranger[8] and was also included in a promotional poster for a hero meet and greet featuring Sixth Rangers.[9]

  • Black Knight (Hyuga)'s status as an official Sixth Ranger has been historically contradicted and up for debate.
    • Various older pictures and events show Black Knight alongside other Sixth Rangers.[10]
    • The 30 Sentai Encyclopedia segments on Sixth Rangers does not show Black Knight.
    • In Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger, Black Knight is not on the Gokai Cellular, nor does he appear on Gokai Silver's Gold Mode armor. He is instead categorized as an Extra Hero. Despite this, Hyuga personally gave Gai his Ranger Key, and Gai has used this Ranger Key along with the other Gokaigers when they changed into the Gingamen.
    • He appeared in the Toei Hero PhotobookIcon-crosswiki with the other Gingamen, unlike other Extra Heroes.[11]
    • When the Gingaman Gear is used in the Geardalinger, which has only ever summoned Additional and Sixth Rangers, Black Knight is summoned. Tvicon TV STORY-No. 22-kai! Let's Have a Bullfighting Party!
    • The Super Sentai - Gakken Encyclopedia released for the 45th Anniversary lists Black Knight on the same page as the other Gingamen, rather than being listed with the other Extra Heroes.[12]
    • The DX Zanglassword flashes purple (representing black), as opposed to the alternating gold and silver for teams with no Sixth Ranger or Additional Rangers, when the Gingaman Gear is read in the Tiguardora.[13]
    • For Gingaman's page on the Super Sentai Friends website, Black Knight is included as a ranger alongside his team. (Extra Rangers and Extra Heroes are not included on these ranger lists)[14]
    • Black Knight is included alongside his team in the trailer for the All Super Sentai Exhibition[15] and is displayed together with his team in the official team gallery accompanying said exhibition[16], as with all other Sixth Rangers (Extra Rangers and Extra Heroes are not counted). He is also classified as an Additional Ranger for the exhibition's "Dream Greeting" calendar.[17]
