This article is about a list of monsters in Avataro Sentai Donbrothers. |
The Hitotsuki (ヒトツ鬼 ) are monsters in Avataro Sentai Donbrothers that are born from human desires and can be created by the Noto. The Hitotsuking (ヒトツ鬼ング Hitotsukingu) are their giant forms.
Overview[]
As a human (or spirit) is gradually consumed by their desire, they are prone to mutating into a Hitotsuki. Although the mutation can happen naturally, a Noto General can forcefully activate it on a person with strong obsession. However, the mutation can be negated if a victim does not fall completely into their desire, and have full control over their actions as shown with Mizuho Ijuin/Kagakuki. TV STORY-Don 28: Secret's Secret When a host completes their desire, the Hitotsuki's power will leave their host to search for another host. TV STORY-Don 31: Doggie Face Reveal According to Sonoi, it is impossible for a member of the Noto people to spawn a Hitotsuki, although they are not invulnerable to being possessed by one should they build up enough desires. To allow this to occur, however, a Hitotsuki must be harvested from a human before reaching maturity, at which point it can be transplanted onto a Noto member. TV STORY-Don 37: I and Ni and Za and Shi
If a Hitotsuki is defeated by a Noto General, they disintegrate and appear to die permanently. TV STORY-Don 1: Avataro However, when Hitotsuki are defeated by the Donbrothers instead, they are capable of evolving into Hitotsuking. Once the Hitotsuking is defeated, they drop a Sentai Gear or an Avataro Gear and turn back to their normal human self. The Gear from a Sentai-themed Hitotsuki is automatically dropped in front of Kaito Goshikida if slain by the Noto this way. TV STORY-Don 3: Light Thief In some occasions, some Sentai-themed Hitotsuki directly turn back into a human after being defeated by the Donbrothers without becoming a Hitotsuking, although their Gears still appear in front of Kaito. TV STORY-Don 4: Onigiri Oni
It was later revealed that anyone who is defeated by a Noto General, including Hitotsuki, are not dead but get transported to a dimension where they are unconscious and imprisoned in cube-shaped energy constructs. Any individual who steps within range of the "slain" Hitotsuki will get transported along with them as well. In said dimension, the hosts appear in their human forms and are put to sleep, with their desires temporarily repressed. However, if the host of a Hitotsuki were to be freed from imprisonment, their greed would immediately resurface causing them to revert back into their Hitotsuki form. TV STORY-Don 15: Welcome Back Taro In addition to that, it is also revealed that the true way of setting any and all of the imprisoned Hitotsuki free without said victims ever reverting back into their Hitotsuki forms is to use an item called the Ring of Forgiveness which is located somewhere in the Juto's Forest of Slumber. TV STORY-Don 46: A Natsumi Night's Dream
A number of people, such as Tsuyoshi Kijino, immediately remember what they did as a Hitotsuki after being defeated, though this is not always the case.
While humans are typically only capable of generating 1 Hitotsuki, there are a number of humans that have been able to become more than one at a time, a notable example being Minoru Ono, who managed to spawn 5.
While all Hitotsuki are monstrous in both their normal and Hitotsuking forms, some Hitotsukings, such as Resshaking, lack a humanoid appearance altogether, and as such resemble abominable monsters with large mouths and cycloptic eyes. Because they are somehow connected to the Sentai Gears, many Hitotsuki have quirks, abilities or physical attributes that connect them with their respective Sentai team. For example, Kyukyuking takes on the form of a dark and twisted version of GoGoV’s GoLiner and can change into the Beetle Mars-like Victory Form.

Behind the Scenes[]
The Hitotsukis/Hitotsukings are designed by artist Tamotsu Shinohara.
Notes[]
- The more distinct Hitotsuki are themed after past Sentai, while their Hitotsuking forms are themed after the Sentai's corresponding Mecha, not unlike the Negative Syndicates from GoGo Sentai Boukenger.
- They are similar to the Another Riders from Kamen Rider Zi-O which are also monsters themed after past heroes from its franchise.
- The Sentai-themed Hitotsuki use the lower bodies of either Benitsuki and Shisotsuki for their under suits.
- "Hitotsu" means "one".
- The Hitotsuki share the same Japanese name of Honedge from the Pokemon franchise.
- Although, their spelling is different.
- When a Hitotsuki is defeated and is about to turn into a Hitotsuking, they are sealed off by a barrier that reads "蟾ィ螟ァ蛹". This is a character encoding change from Shift_JIS to UTF-8 of "巨大化", meaning "to become huge".
- Likewise, when somebody is transformed into a Sentai-based Hitotsuki, they are surrounded by an energy circle that reads the encoded name of the relevant Sentai team, with a matching logo on certain parts:

- Later Hitotsukings, starting with Kyoryuking, reuse the head from their Hitotsuki counterpart.
