This article is about a villainous army in Samurai Sentai Shinkenger. |
The Gedoshu (外道衆 Gedōshū, literally "Heretical Path Masses" or more simply known as "Heretic Party") are a legion of evil spirits who have been opposed for generations by the Shinkengers.
Overview[]
The Gedoshu are malevolent spirits who arise as the result of sin-tainted souls that enter into the Sanzu River within the land of the dead, dependent on its waters for survival, as well as cursed to be in a state between life and death until they are able to let go of the attachment that damned them in the first place. The Gedoshu under Dokoku reside in the Rokumon Junk that sails along the Sanzu River: others spend their time within the River itself until Dokoku or some other powerful being calls them. They are only able to stay in the human world for a few minutes because they then begin to dry up, being forced to return to the River to replenish their water.
Able to enter the living world through cracks and narrow gaps, the Gedoshu, particularly those serving Dokoku set up a plan to terrorize humans in any way possible so that the river overflows to point of flooding into the mortal realm in order for them to invade in full fury. The Gedoshu become powerful during the summer due to Dokoku's rage. In the Buddhist tradition, the holiday Bon Festival, which honors dead ancestors, takes place during the summer.
Though defeated and sealed by the previous generation's Shinkengers, the Gedoshu reawaken in the present time to resume their havoc, only to face the current incarnation of the Shinkengers.
History[]
300 years prior to the start of Samurai Sentai Shinkenger, the Gedoshu, led by their powerful general, Dokoku, laid siege on Japan. The Emperor asked a Samurai Lord and the lord's four retainers who mastered the art of Mojikara, or calligraphy power, to fight back against these demons from Hell. With the samurais' powers of Mojikara and folding gods, the Gedoshu were banished to the Sanzu River. For the next hundreds of years, Nanashi soldiers and the more powerful Ayakashi demons would slowly slip into Tokyo to cause chaos in order to cause the Sanzu River to overflood, which would allow the entire army of Gedoshu to enter the human world without the risk of drying up. Generations of Shinkengers were tasked to fight back against the demons, secretly keeping humans safe.
17 years prior to the series, the Gedoshu army was able to break free of the Sanzu River and attacked the Shiba Mansion with full force. That generation's Shinkengers fought back against the army and all hope seemed lost until the 17th generation ShinkenRed performed a powerful (but incomplete) sealing character on Dokoku (which Dokoku and the rest of the Gedoshu thought was just a powerful attack, and never expected it to be a sealing spell) which destroyed Dokoku's body and sent the entire Gedoshu army back to the Sanzu River. Because of the sealing character, none of the Gedoshu were able to enter the human world. But during the winter of 2008, after 17 years of holding back the Gedoshu, the sealing character's power wore off and Nanashi grunts started making their way back to the human world. After weeks of being fought back by the current, 18th head of the Shiba clan, the Gedoshu were ready to make their first big attack after 17 years of waiting.
Later history[]
Combined Combatant[]
Several Nanashi Company were part of an army of past enemy grunts that were fought by the Gokaigers in Los Dark's ghost dimension which housed the 1500 spirits of the villains defeated by the Super Sentai. After losing some of their numbers in an initial skirmish, the remaining members from each grunt group merged to form the Combined Combatant. Though the stronger opponent, the Combined Combatant proved to be unstable due to internal conflict among the grunts composing him over who got to finish the pirates off. Taking advantage, the Gokaigers used the Battle Fever J Ranger Keys to destroy the Combined Combatant with the Penta Force cannon. TV STORY-Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger the Movie: The Flying Ghost Ship
Super Hero Taisen Z[]
Dokoku, Dayu, and Ayakashi Chinomanako were part of an army of resurrected (mostly Super Sentai) monsters led by Space Raider after the revival of Madou Demon King Psycho. They proceeded to attack the gathering of Kamen Riders and Super Sentai giving them a hard time. The heroes of recent years were in a pinch until the arrival of a force of Sentai and Rider reinforcements, which included the Shinkenger five-man team, led by Akarenger and Kamen Rider #1. The combined forces of superheroes were able to turn the tide against the Madou army. They lined up and used their various finisher attacks to destroy the revived monsters.
