Evil Zords

This article is about a/an series of Zords and/or Megazords in the Power Rangers franchise.

Several times during Power Rangers certain villains have summoned and/or piloted Zords or Megazords of their own or somehow hijacked, overridden and/or taken control of those belonging to the Rangers; some monsters have even taken on forms similar to Zords. In truth there is little to differentiate them from other giant robots; however, the word itself summons a feeling that the Rangers are now facing beings in some ways like themselves. This motif is used in many mediums to introduce increased tension and drama.

The first instance of this is during the first season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers in which the Rangers fight Tommy Oliver and the Dragonzord. In this instance the Zord and Ranger are turned to the side of good although the Dragonzord is later used for evil by Goldar, Pirantishead (who also controls the Tyrannosaurus Dinozord) and the clone of the Green Ranger. The same idea is reused in the same season of Mighty Morphin when Goldar pilots Cyclopsis. Lord Zedd later pilots Serpentera which is hugely powerful but never truly able to defeat the Rangers due to running out of fuel. Serpentera reappears in Power Rangers Wild Force but is destroyed.

The idea of evil Zords is reused in later seasons; in Power Rangers Turbo Divatox's Crew pilots machines called Divazords and Power Rangers In Space has Psycho Yellow take control of the Mega Voyager. Power Rangers Lost Galaxy introduces the Stratoforce and Centaurus Megazords and Zenith Carrierzord under the control of Deviot but whose inner natures as Galactabeasts allow them to break free. The Magna Defender's Torozord is used to fight the Galaxy Rangers on at least one occasion.

In Power Rangers: Time Force there are giant robots not addressed as Zords although in Mirai Sentai Timeranger one is named the G-Zord. This is the first time the word is used on Sentai prior to Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters; the G-Zord is adapted into the Dragontron in Power Rangers Time Force. In Power Rangers SPD and Power Rangers Operation Overdrive giant robots are similarly used by villains. While mostly not referred to as Zords they are all Zord-like in operation.

There is one villainous Zord in PR which isn't a robot in Sentai which is the Lothorzord from Power Rangers Ninja Storm. This is done in order to use footage from Ninpu Sentai Hurricaneger since Lothor is a PR-exclusive villain. This is repeated in the case of the Zelzord from Power Rangers Dino Thunder.

List of Zords/Megazords Turned Evil

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

• Dragonzord - Used by Tommy Oliver and later Pirantishead, Goldar and his clone. After being awakened from the waters near Angel Grove and later sent back by Tommy's clone it never appeared again.
• Tyrannosaurus Dinozord - Brainwashed by Pirantishead but returned to normal by a signal jammer. Destroyed when Zedd sends it into a rift full of lava but is rebuilt as the Red Dragon Thunderzord.
• White Tigerzord - Forced to fight the Thunder Megazord after Rita Repulsa steals Saba. Returned when Tommy gets him back but destroyed along with the Mighty Morphin' Thunder Megazord after being overloaded by Rito Revolto.

Power Rangers (Boom! Studios)

• Alpha 1

Power Rangers Zeo

• Zeo Megazord - Sabotaged and taken control of by Cog Changer.
• Super Zeo Megazord - Taken control of by Impursonator.

Power Rangers Turbo

• Robo Racer - Piloted by the brainwashed Blue Senturion. Returned when a wishing coin is used to make him good again and goes with him to Eltar although its fate from then on is unclear.
• Turbo Megazord - Captured by General Havoc and piloted by Crosspatch. Reclaimed by the Rangers but destroyed by Goldgoyle.

Power Rangers in Space

• Delta Megaship - Hit by Astronema's Evilizer. Reclaimed when forming the Astro Delta Megazord but destroyed by Ecliptor.
• Mega Voyager - Taken over by Psycho Yellow but purged. Destroyed by Tankenstein.

Power Rangers Lost Galaxy

• Torozord - Fought the Rangers at the behest of the Magna Defender before his redemption and death. Sacrificed along with his powers by Mike Corbett to help Terra Venture escape the Lost Galaxy.
• Stratoforce and Centaurus Megazords and Zenith Carrierzord - Brainwashed by Deviot before being freed although the former two are destroyed by Trakeena's Stingwingers through a suicide attack.

Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue

• Omega and Lifeforce Megazords - Both hijacked and destroyed along with their respective pilots.

Power Rangers Wild Force

• Dark Wildzords/Predazord - Piloted by Zen-Aku. Defeated by the Wild Force Megazord and cleansed for Merrick Baliton. Destroyed by Master Org but revived.
• Elephant, Giraffe and Bear Brothers Wildzords - Also brainwashed by Zen-Aku they are freed but destroyed by Master Org and revived.
• Wildzords - All brainwashed by the Lion Tamer Org they are freed by Animus and destroyed by Master Org but revived.

Power Rangers Time Force

• Quantasaurus Rex - Goes beserk upon activation before being controlled by Eric Myers. Rebuilt into the Q-Rex Drill to be used by Orion.

Power Rangers Ninja Storm

• Ninja Thunderzords/Ninja Thunder Megazord - Piloted by the Thunder Rangers and destroyed along with Vexacus.

Power Rangers Dino Thunder

• Biozords - The Thundersaurus Megazord's components under Mesogog's control before being tamed by the Rangers. Destroyed along with the Zelzord and Mezodon Megazord by self-destructing.
• Dimetrozord - Turned evil by Elsa before being tamed by Tommy and reprogrammed alongside the Cephalazord by Trent Fernandez-Mercer but freed.
• DinoStegazord - Converted to evil by Trent and later his clone but freed.
  • Dragozord - Hatched by Trent before being controlled by his clone but later freed.
  • Stegozord - Reprogrammed by Trent and controlled by his clone before being freed.
• Cephalazord - Reprogrammed by Trent along with the Dimetrozord but freed.

Power Rangers SPD

• Delta Command Crawler/Delta Command Megazord - Used against the Rangers twice, once by Wootox who is thwarted by Sky Tate and again by Broodwing but it is deactivated by Kat Manx. The base remains in Newtech City and its Megazord mode is presumed to have been restored soon after.

Power Rangers Jungle Fury

• Shark Animal Spirit - Taken control of by Crustaceo but freed.

Power Rangers RPM

• Road Attack Zord - Goes rogue upon activation before being controlled by the Rangers.
• Paleozord/PaleoMax Megazord - Goes rogue before being reprogrammed by Doctor K. Is controlled by the Generation 16 Hyper Bot before being reclaimed by the Rangers but deleted from the Bio-Field by the Venjix Virus.

Power Rangers Samurai/Super Samurai

• TigerZord - Under Madimot's mind-control after being lost while fighting against Master Xandred but reclaimed by Jayden Shiba.
• BullZord - Goes on a rampage after young Guardian Cody breaks the seal keeping it imprisoned in a mountain where Crustor and Moogers attempt to capture it as ordered by Serrator. It is tamed by Cody and Jayden.

Power Rangers Megaforce/Super Megaforce

• Turbo Falcon Zord - Goes rogue upon being released by Professor Cog but tamed by the Rangers. Later sent back to Corinth by the Armada.
• Robo Knight - Brainwashed using Orion's energies by Vrak. Destroyed in Vrak's underwater base but later shown to have survived and participated in the Legendary Battle. He presumably goes back to storage afterwards.

Power Rangers Dino Charge/Dino Super Charge

• Ankylo Zord - Goes berserk after being hit by Stingrage before Shelby Watkins removes the stinger.
• Ptera Zord/Ptera Charge Megazord - Originally under Fury's control but claimed by Sir Ivan of Zandar. Controlled by Lord Arcanon's Crew before also being reclaimed.
• Plesio Charge Megazord Pachy-Rex Formation and Dino Charge Megazord Tri-Stego Formation - Controlled by Arcanon's Crew and reclaimed.

Power Rangers Ninja Steel/Super Ninja Steel

• Robo Rider Zord - Remote-controlled by Cosmo Royale until freed by Levi Weston.

List of Known Evil Zords/Megazords

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

• Cyclopsis - Goldar's Warzord sent to defeat the Rangers. Destroyed by the Dino Ultrazord twice.
• Serpentera - Lord Zedd's Warzord that is hidden on the moon and eventually found by the remnants of the Machine Empire. Ultimately destroyed by Cole Evans and the Wild Force Rider.
• The Copyzord - Created from the Red Dragon Thunderzord by Photomare to combat the Thunder Megazord. Destroyed with its creator by the Thunder Megazord.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie

• Ectomorphicon Titans - Ivan Ooze's war machines uncovered Angel Grove's citizens. One is destroyed by Tommy and the other by the Ninja FalconMegazord after merging with Ooze himself.

Power Rangers (Boom! Studios)

• Typhonis - Created out of pieces from Cyclopsis and the Rangers' older Zords; defeated and taken control of by the Rangers.
• War Golem - A monster Zord piloted by Commandant.
• Black Dragon - A remote-control Megazord made out of Zord and Megazord parts manned by Lord Drakkon but defeated by the Rangers. Later used as battle armor against its creator.
• Gravezord - A remote-control Megazord from the World of the Coinless created from the Thunderzords piloted by Ranger Slayer. Loaned to the Rangers when Drakkon's spell is broken.

Power Rangers Zeo

• Quadrafighters - Attack ships of the Machine Empire piloted by Cogs with a walking mode for landing and surface battles.

Power Rangers Turbo

• Elgar's Vehicle Fleet - Battle machines deployed by Elgar. Destroyed by the Turbo Megazord.
• Metallosaurus - Developed by General Havoc and able to capture the Turbo Megazord before being upgraded by it. Destroyed by the Rescue Megazord twice.
• Terrorzord - A Zord used by Elgar that is turned into a camel by accident.
• Divazords - Three Zords piloted by Divatox, Rygog and Porto. Destroyed by the Rescue & Turbo Megazords.

Power Rangers In Space

• Velocifighters - Ships normally piloted by Quantrons employed by Dark Specter's forces. All destroyed.
• Sphinx Ship - A spacecraft commanded by Astronema. Destroyed by the Astro Megazord.

Power Rangers Lost Galaxy

• Scorpion Stinger - A spaceship used by Scorpius and Trakeena's Army to attack Terra Venture and other locations. Destroyed with the Astro Megaship through self-destructing.

Power Rangers Time Force

• Tronicon - A monster Zord deployed after Izout critically damages the Time Force Megazord.
• Dragontron - A Zord created and remote-controlled by Frax. Destroyed by the Time Force Megazord and Quantasaurus Rex.
• Doomtron - A Zord created and piloted by Frax after being brainwashed by Ransik. Destroyed along with its pilot by Wesley Collins and the Quantasaurus Rex.

Power Rangers Ninja Storm

• Zurganezords 1, 2 and 3 - A trio of nearly-identical Zords created and piloted by Zurgane. All can fire blasts of electricity, Zurganezord 2 has a Lightning Mode similar to the Storm Megazord and Zurganezord 3 can scan the Rangers' Megazords. All destroyed.
• Hyper Zurganezord - Created from the data collected by Zurganezord 3 on the Storm, Thunder and Samurai Star Megazords. Also has its own Power Sphere called the Hyper Sword. Destroyed along with its weapon by the Hurricane Ultrazord and other Power Spheres.
• Kaprizord - A Zord piloted by Kapri and destroyed by the Hurricane Ultrazord and Power Spheres.
• Marahzord - A Beevil lookalike piloted by Marah and destroyed by the Samurai Storm Megazord.
• Shimazuzord - A Zord piloted by Shimazu and destroyed by the Samurai Thunder Megazord.
• Lothorzord - A Zord piloted by Lothor himself. Destroyed along with its pilot and the Storm Megazord.

Power Rangers Dino Thunder

• Aerial Assault Craft - An aircraft Zord piloted by Zeltrax in Mesogog's first attack on Reefside and later rebuilt to draw out the Rangers. Destroyed the first time by the Thundersaurus Megazord and the second time by a fight between its pilot and Tommy.
  • Terra Assault Craft - A centipede or millipede Zord deployed from Zeltrax's attack craft when used the second time. Able to overpower and defeat the Brachiozord before being destroyed by the Mezodon Rover and Triassic Megarover.
• Replicantzord/Blizzard Force Megazord - A clone of the Thundersaurus Megazord created and remote-controlled by Mesogog and powered by Ugly Monster. Destroyed by the Thundersaurus & Mezodon Megazords.
  • Arctic Pterazord - A green version of Kira Ford's Biozord only seen in the toyline with a recolored Blizzard Force Megazord.
• Zelzord - A Zord built and piloted by Zeltrax and the Triptoids. Destroyed by the Thundersaurus & Mezodon Megazords through self-destructing.

Power Rangers S.P.D.

• Troobian Empire Robots - Zords supplied to Emperor Gruumm and others by Broodwing to battle the Rangers. All destroyed.
  • Mega Drill - Used by Praxis to attack Newtech City and later by Broodwing to assault and seize control of Delta Base. Destroyed the first time by the Delta Squad Megazord.
    • A-Squad's Megazord - Created from the second Mega Drill and piloted by the A-Squad Rangers. Destroys the Delta Squad Megazord and disables the Omegamax Megazord before being destroyed itself by the S.W.A.T. Megazord.
  • Sinuku's Ninja Robot - Piloted by Sinuku to destroy the Rangers. Was able to evade them once before being destroyed by the Delta Squad Megazord.
  • Marato - Stolen Shrines made by Broodwing able to defeat the Delta Runners but destroyed by the Delta Command Megazord. An identical Zord was used by him again but also destroyed by the Delta Command Megazord.
  • Robot of Destruction - Piloted by Morgana to summon Devastation and Devastation himself to destroy the Rangers. Defeated the Delta Squad Megazord before being destroyed by it while riding the Omegamax Cycle. An identical Zord is used by Slate but destroyed by the Delta Squad Megazord on its own.
  • Gigabot - Powered by the unstable Helios Generator created by Professor Mooney which manages to take out the Delta Max Megazord. Destroyed by the S.W.A.T. Megazord.
• Goradon - A massive robotic alien sought out and initially controlled by General Valko using S.O.P.H.I.E. Destroyed by the Delta Command Megazord.
• Omni The Magnificence - Gruumm's hidden master who assumes a massive robotic form once the Troobian Empire gathers the materials necessary to construct a body for him which includes diamonds, gold, iridium, asteroid chunks and Hemotech Synthetic Plasma. Destroyed by Anubis Cruger and the S.W.A.T. Megazord.
  • Terror Spacecraft - Gruumm's warship which is later converted into a head for Omni's body and destroyed with Omni himself.

Power Rangers Mystic Force

• Catastros - Used by Koragg, The Knight Wolf against the Rangers. The Centaur Megazord is first seen as its own Megazord while the Centaurus Wolf Megazord is first seen as a fusion of Koragg and Catastros.
• Black Lance's chariot horses - Destroyed.

Power Rangers Operation Overdrive

• Bombardo - Turned into a Zord form by the Eye of the Sea. Reverted by the Shovel Driver and destroyed as a giant.
• Moltor's Zord - A Zord built and piloted by Moltor. Destroyed by the Super DriveMax Megazord.
• Dragonizer - A dragon Zord built by Moltor first piloted by the Lava Lizards and later by Flurious. Destroyed by the Super DriveMax Megazord.
• Lavadactyls - Pterosaur Zords piloted by the Lava Lizards. Destroyed by the DriveMax Ultrazord and BattleFleet Zord.
• Flurious' Robot - A Zord built by Flurious and stolen by the Fearcats. Destroyed by the Flash Point Megazord.
• Jet Robot - Used to attack San Angeles. Destroyed.
• Mig & Benglo's jet
• Commando Robot - Originally one of the Fearcats' normal Zords powered up by the Super Armor but still destroyed.
• Centurion Robot - Used to release the powers of the Centurion Torch but still destroyed.
• Cybernetic Rex - A Tyrannosaurus rex Zord piloted by the Lava Lizards. Destroyed by the BattleFleet Megazord.
• Agrios - Created from combining relics into the Octavian Chalice and controlled by the Fearcats after fusing it with a jet. Destroyed.

Power Rangers RPM

• Venjix Drones - Insect-like aerial and ground attack vehicles piloted by Grinders. Venjix even has a personal drone for combat. All destroyed.
• Doomsday Machine - An Attack Bot created and controlled by Venjix. Reprogrammed and modified by Doctor K into the Whale Jumbo Jet but deleted by its creator.

Power Rangers Samurai/Super Samurai

• ScorpionCreature - A Zord for Deker only seen in the ZordBuilder toyline.

Power Rangers Megaforce/Super Megaforce

• Yuffo - Is able to assume a Zord-like state by splitting himself into flying saucer-like segments. Destroyed by the Gosei Great Megazord.
• Hisser - Assumes a temporary Zord-like form after being enlarged by the Zombats. Destroyed by the Lion Mechazord.
• Bruisers - Armada footsoldiers able to assume fighter jet and motorcycle configurations. All destroyed.
• Armada Megazord - A Megazord built by Prince Vekar's father Emperor Mavro that took out the Legendary Q-Rex Megazord. Destroyed along with its pilot by the Ultimate Legendary Megazord.
• Levira Megazord - Levira's personal Megazord created by herself. Destroyed by the Legendary Megazord.

Power Rangers Dino Charge/Dino Super Charge

• Vivizords - Enlarged groups of Vivix that assist Sledge's crew and his outlaws.
• Fortress - Modified from an outlaw trained by Wrench to counter the Rangers' Megazords and piloted by Heckyl and Snide. Destroyed by the Dino Charge Ultrazord.

Power Rangers Ninja Steel/Super Ninja Steel

• Foxatron - Created from the Foxbots and piloted by Madame Odius using the Ninja Medallions. Able to destabilize the Ninja Steel Ultrazord and defeat the Ninja Steel, Bull Rider and Lion Fire Megazords thus burning their Ninja Power Stars almost beyond repair. Destroyed by the Ninja Blaze Megazord.

Power Rangers Beast Morphers

• Gigadrones - Zords created by Scrozzle that can be combined with the data of Robotrons.
  • Cycledrone - Created by combining the data of Cycletron with a Gigadrone Alpha Model sent to steal Morph X from the Morph-X Tower Network but is destroyed by the Racer Zord Battle Mode.
  • Needledrone - Created by combining the data of Needletron with a Gigadrone Beta Model sent to steal Morph X from the Morph-X Tower Network but is destroyed by the Wheeler Zord Gorilla Mode & Racer Zord Battle Mode.
  • Shoveldrone - Created by combining the data of Shoveltron with a Gigadrone Beta Model sent to steal Morph X from the Morph-X Tower Network but is destroyed by the Racer Zord Battle Mode.
  • Slicerdrone - Created by combining the data of Slicertron with a Gigadrone Type Gamma sent to steal Morph X from the Morph-X Tower Network but is disabled by the Racer Zord Battle Mode and taken into custody by Grid Battleforce. Rebooted by Roxy's avatar but destroyed by the Beast-X Megazord.
  • Meltadrone - Created by combining the data of Meltatron with a Gigadrone Beta Model sent to destroy Devon Daniels and prevent him from saving his friends but is destroyed along with Slicerdrone by the Beast-X Megazord.
  • Gigatronics - Gigadrone versions of Tronics deployed to assist other Gigadrones.
  • Raildrone - Created by combining the data of Railtron with a Gigadrone Alpha Model. It attempts to destroy the Rangers with the aid of Gigatronics but is destroyed by the Beast-X Megazord.
  • Vacuudrone - Created by combining the data of Vacuutron with a Gigadrone Gamma Model sent to steal Morph-X from the Morph-X Tower Network but is destroyed by the Beast-X Megazord.
  • Antennadrone - Created by combining the data of Antennatron with a Gigadrone Alpha Model. It attempts to destroy the Rangers with the aid of Gigatronics but is destroyed by the Racer Zord Battle Mode.
  • Drilldrone - Created when Scrozzle combines data from Drilltron with a Gigadrone Alpha Model. It attempts to destroy the Rangers but is destroyed by the Beast-X Megazord.
  • Tooldrone - Created by combining the data of Tooltron with a Gigadrone Gamma Model. It attempts to destroy the Beast Morphers Rangers with the aid of a new Gigadrone Delta Model but was destroyed by the Beast-X and Striker Megazords.
  • Clonedrone - Created from the data of Clonetron to destroy the Rangers. Destroyed by the Beast-X Megazord.
  • Tubadrone - Created from the data of Tubatron and sent to destroy part of the Morph-X Tower Network using its sonic blast. Destroyed by the Beast-X Megazord.
    • Tubadrone 2.0 - Created from Tubatron 2.0 to get revenge for previous defeats. Destroyed by the Racer Zord.
  • Burnerdrone - Created from the data of Burnertron and sent to melt part of the Morph-X Tower Network and steal the Morph X. Destroyed by the Striker Megazord.
  • Turbodrone - Created from the data of Turbotron and sent to blast part of the Morph-X Tower Network and suck the Morph X using its fan. Destroyed by the Racer Zord being thrown upwards by the Wheeler Zord.
  • Blaze's Megazord - Created by Evox and Scrozzle from a Gigadrone and piloted by Blaze's avatar to protect part of the Morph-X Tower Network sent to the Cyber Dimension. Destroyed along with the tower, Evox's body and its pilot by the Racer Zord Battle Mode.
