Evil Zords

This article is about a/an series of Zords and/or Megazords in the Power Rangers franchise.

Several times during the Power Rangers series certain villains have piloted Zords or similar vehicles of their own or somehow hijacked, overridden and/or taken control of the Zords belonging to the Rangers themselves. In truth, there is little to differentiate these machines from any other giant robot, however, the word Zord itself summons a feeling that the Rangers are now facing beings in some ways like themselves. This motif has been used in many mediums to introduce increased tension and drama.

The first instance of this occurring was during the first season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers in the "Green With Evil" arc in which the Rangers first fought against Tommy Oliver and his Dragonzord. In this first instance the Zord and Ranger were turned to the side of good - although the Dragonzord would later be used for evil again by Goldar, Pirantishead (who also controlled the Tyrannosaurus Dinozord) and the clone of the Green Ranger. The same idea was reused at the 'culmination' of the first season of Mighty Morphin when Goldar piloted the Warzord Cyclopsis against the Rangers. Lord Zedd also piloted another Warzord called Serpentera which was hugely powerful but never truly able to defeat the Rangers due to it continuously running out of fuel. Serpentera reappeared in the Power Rangers Wild Force team-up "Forever Red" but was destroyed.

The idea of evil Zords was reused several times in later seasons; in Power Rangers Turbo, Divatox and her minions piloted machines called Divazords and an episode of Power Rangers In Space had the Yellow Psycho Ranger take control of the Mega Voyager while the Rangers were in it. Power Rangers Lost Galaxy also introduced the Stratoforce and Centaurus Megazords and Zenith Carrierzord under the control of Deviot but whose inner natures as Galactabeasts allowed them to break free and join the Rangers. The Magna Defender's Torozord was used to fight against the Galaxy Rangers on at least one occasion.

In Power Rangers: Time Force there were several giant robots used by Frax and not addressed as Zords, although in Mirai Sentai Timeranger (the Super Sentai show Time Force came from) one of the robots was named G-Zord. This was the first time the term "Zord" was ever used on a Sentai program prior to the release of Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters which premiered nearly 12 years later. The G-Zord was adapted into the Dragontron robot when the footage was used in Time Force. In Power Rangers SPD and Power Rangers Operation Overdrive a large assortment of giant robots are similarly used by the villains of the series. While mostly not referred to as Zords these are all Zord-like in operation.

There was one villainous Zord in the US version which wasn't really a robot in the original Sentai version. That Zord was the Lothorzord, the Zord Lothor piloted at the end of Power Rangers Ninja Storm. This was done in order to use the final battle footage from Ninpu Sentai Hurricaneger (the Sentai series that Ninja Storm was based on and adapted from) especially since Lothor was a Power Rangers-exclusive villain. This was repeated again in the case of the Zelzord, the Zord Zeltrax piloted from the end of Power Rangers Dino Thunder.

List of Known Evil Zords/Megazords

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

• Cyclopsis - Goldar's Warzord. Destroyed by the Ultrazord twice.
• Serpentera - Lord Zedd's Warzord that was hidden on the moon for years and eventually found by the remnants of the Machine Empire. Ultimately destroyed by Cole Evans and his Wild Force Rider.
• The Copyzord - Created from the Red Dragon Thunderzord by Photomare to combat the Thunder Megazord. Destroyed with its creator by the Thunder Megazord.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie

• Ectomorphicon Titans - Ivan Ooze's personal war machines hidden on Earth uncovered by the brainwashed citizens of Angel Grove. One was destroyed by Tommy and the other by the Ninja FalconMegazord after being merged with Ooze himself.

Power Rangers (Boom! Studios)

• Typhonis - A Warzord created out of pieces from Cyclopsis and the Rangers' older Zords; defeated and taken control of by the Rangers.
• War Golem - A Zord-like monster piloted by Commandant.
• Black Dragon - A remote-control robot made out of Zord and Megazord parts manned by Lord Drakkon but defeated by the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. Later used as battle armor against its creator.
• Gravezord - A Megazord from Drakkon's dimension created from the remains of the Thunderzords piloted by the Ranger Slayer.

Power Rangers Zeo

• Quadrafighters - Attack ships of the Machine Empire piloted by Cogs with a walking mode for landing and surface battles.

Power Rangers Turbo

• Elgar's Vehicle Fleet - A group of battle machines deployed by Elgar. Destroyed by the Turbo Megazord.
• Metallosaurus - A Zord developed by General Havoc. Destroyed by the Rescue Megazord.
• Terrorzord - A Zord used by Elgar. Turned into a camel by one of Divatox's monsters by accident.
• Divazords - Three Zords piloted by Divatox, Rygog and Porto. Destroyed by the Rescue & Turbo Megazords.

Power Rangers In Space

• Velocifighters - Small ships normally piloted by Quantrons employed by Dark Specter's forces.
• Sphinx Ship - A spacecraft commanded by Astronema destroyed by the Astro Megazord.

Power Rangers Lost Galaxy

• Scorpion Stinger - A large spaceship used by Scorpius and Trakeena's Army to attack Terra Venture and various other locations. Destroyed by the Astro Megaship when it self-destructed.

Power Rangers Time Force

• Tronicon - Frax's first monster, a powerful Zord-like creature deployed to destroy the city after Izout critically damaged the Time Force Megazord.
• Dragontron - A Zord-like robot created and remote-controlled by Frax. Destroyed by the Time Force Megazord riding the Quantasaurus Rex.
• Doomtron - A Zord-like robot created and piloted by Frax after he was brainwashed by Ransik. Destroyed along with its pilot by Wesley Collins & the Quantasaurus Rex's lasers.

Power Rangers Ninja Storm

• Zurganezords 1, 2 and 3 - A trio of nearly-identical Zords created and piloted by Zurgane. All Zurganezords could fire blasts of electricity, Zurganezord 2 had a Lightning Mode similar to the Storm Megazord while Zurganezord 3 could scan data of the Rangers' Megazords. All destroyed.
• Hyper Zurganezord - A Zord created by Zurgane from data collected by Zurganezord 3 on the Storm Megazord, Thunder Megazord and Samurai Star Megazord. Also has a Power Sphere of its own, the Hyper Sword. Destroyed along with its weapon by the Hurricane Megazord, Mighty Mammothzord and all of the Power Spheres.
• Kaprizord - A Zord piloted by Kapri. Destroyed by the Hurricane Ultrazord.
• Marahzord - A Beevil lookalike Zord piloted by Marah. Destroyed by the Samurai Storm Megazord.
• Shimazuzord - A Zord piloted by Shimazu. Destroyed by the Samurai Thunder Megazord.
• Lothorzord - A Zord piloted by Lothor himself. Destroyed along with its pilot and the Storm Megazord.

Power Rangers Dino Thunder

• Aerial Assault Craft - An airborne vehicle piloted by Zeltrax in Mesogog's first attack on Reefside and later rebuilt to draw out the Rangers. Destroyed the first time by the Thundersaurus Megazord and the second time by a fight between its pilot and Tommy.
  • Terra Assault Craft - A vehicle deployed from Zeltrax's attack craft when used the second time. It was able to overpower and defeat the Brachiozord before succumbing to the Mezodon Rover.
• Replicantzord/Blizzard Force Megazord - An evil clone of the Thundersaurus Megazord created by Mesogog. Destroyed by the Thundersaurus & Mezodon Megazords.
  • Arctic Pterazord - A green version of the Pterazord, Kira Ford's personal Biozord only seen in the toyline with a recolored Blizzard Force Megazord.
• Zelzord - A Zord built and piloted by Zeltrax and the Triptoids. Destroyed by the Thundersaurus & Mezodon Megazords by self-destructing.

Power Rangers S.P.D.

• Troobian Empire Robots - Zord-like machines sold by Broodwing to Emperor Gruumm used to battle the Rangers. All destroyed.
• Gigabot - A robot with an unstable reactor core power source created by Professor Mooney which managed to take out the Deltamax Megazord. Destroyed by the S.W.A.T. Megazord.
• Omni The Magnificence - Gruumm's hidden master who was able to assume a massive robot form once the Troobian Empire gathered the materials necessary to construct a body for him which included diamonds, gold, iridium, asteroid chunks and Hemotech Synthetic Plasma. Destroyed by Anubis Cruger and the S.W.A.T. Megazord.
  • Terror Spacecraft - Gruumm's warship which was later converted into a head for Omni's body and lost with Omni himself.

Power Rangers Mystic Force

• Catastros - Used by Koragg, The Knight Wolf against the Rangers. The Centaur Megazord was first seen as its own Megazord while the Centaurus Wolf Megazord was first seen as a fusion of Koragg and Catastros. Neither was seen again after Leanbow became the Wolf Warrior.
• Black Lance's chariot horses.

Power Rangers Operation Overdrive

• Bombardo - Turned into a Zord-like form by the Eye of the Sea. Reverted to normal by the Shovel Driver and destroyed shortly after as a giant.
• Moltor's Zord - A robot built and piloted by Moltor. Destroyed by the Super DriveMax Megazord.
• Dragonizer - A dragon-like robot built by Moltor first piloted by the Lava Lizards and later on by Flurious. Destroyed by the Super DriveMax Megazord.
• Lavadactyls - Pterosaur-like Zords piloted by the Lava Lizards. Destroyed by the DriveMax Ultrazord and BattleFleet Zord.
• Flurious' Robot - An unnamed Zord built by Flurious and stolen by the Fearcats. Destroyed by the Flash Point Megazord.
• Jet Robot - Used to attack San Angeles. Destroyed.
• Mig & Benglo's jet
• Commando Robot - Originally one of the Fearcats' normal robots, it was powered up by the Super Armor but still destroyed.
• Centurion Robot - Used to release the powers of the Centurion Torch  but was still destroyed.
• Cybernetic Rex - A Tyrannosaurus rex-like Zord piloted by the Lava Lizards. Destroyed by the BattleFleet Megazord.
• Agrios - Created from combining multiple relics into the Octavian Chalice, Agrios was controlled by the Fearcats after fusing it with a jet. Destroyed.

Power Rangers Megaforce/Super Megaforce

• Yuffo - Was able to assume a Zord-like state by splitting himself into multiple flying saucer-like segments. Destroyed by the Gosei Great Megazord.
• Hisser - Assumed a temporary Zord-like form after being enlarged by the Zombats. Destroyed by the Lion Mechazord.
• Bruisers - Footsoldiers of the Armada able to assume Zord-like fighter jet and motorcycle configurations for battle. All destroyed.
• Armada Megazord - Prince Vekar's personal Megazord built by his father Emperor Mavro. Destroyed along with its pilot by the Ultimate Legendary Megazord.
• Levira Megazord - Levira's personal Megazord. Destroyed by the Legendary Megazord.

Power Rangers Dino Charge/Dino Super Charge

• Vivizords - Enlarged groups of Vivix footsoldiers that assist Sledge's Crew and his outlaws in battle.
• Fortress - Heckyl and Snide's personal Megazord created and trained by Wrench. Destroyed by the Dino Charge Ultrazord.

Power Rangers Ninja Steel/Super Ninja Steel

• Foxatron - A Megazord created and piloted by Madame Odius using the Galactic Ninjas' Ninja Medallions which was able to defeat the Ninja Steel Megazord, Bull Rider Megazord and Lion Fire Megazord and burn the Ninja Steel Rangers' Ninja Power Stars almost beyond repair. Destroyed by the Ninja Blaze Megazord.

Power Rangers Beast Morphers

• Cycledrone - Created when Scrozzle combined data from Cycletron with a Gigadrone Alpha Model sent to Earth to steal Morph X from the Morph-X Tower Network but was destroyed by the Racer Zord's Battle Mode.
• Needledrone - Created when Scrozzle combined data from Needletron with a Gigadrone Beta Model sent to Earth to steal Morph X from the Morph-X Tower Network but was destroyed by the Wheeler Zord's Gorilla Mode & Racer Zord's Battle Mode.
• Shoveldrone - Created when Scrozzle combined data from Shoveltron with a Gigadrone Beta Model sent to Earth to steal Morph X from the Morph-X Tower Network but was destroyed by the Racer Zord's Battle Mode.
• Slicerdrone - Created when Scrozzle combined data from Slicertron with a Gigadrone Type Gamma. It is sent to Earth to steal Morph X from the Morph-X Tower Network but is shut down by the Racer Zord's Battle Mode and commandeered by the Grid Battleforce. Rebooted by Roxy's avatar to destroy the Beast Morphers Rangers but destroyed by the Beast-X Megazord.
• Meltadrone - Created when Scrozzle combined data from Meltatron with a Gigadrone Beta Model sent to Earth to destroy Devon Daniels and prevent him from saving his friends but was destroyed by the Beast-X Megazord.
• Raildrone - Created when Scrozzle combined data from Railtron with a Gigadrone Alpha Model. It attempted to destroy the Beast Morphers Rangers with the aid of the Gigatronics but is destroyed by the Beast X Megazord.
• Vacuudrone - Created when Scrozzle combined data from Vacuutron with a Gigadrone Gamma Model. It is sent to Earth to steal Morph-X from the Morph-X Tower Network but is destroyed by the Beast X Megazord.
• Antennadrone - Created when Scrozzle combined data from Antennatron with a Gigadrone Alpha Model. He attempted to destroy the Beast Morphers Rangers with the aid of the Gigatronics but is destroyed by the Racer Zord Battle Mode.
• Drilldrone - Created when Scrozzle combined data from Drilltron with a Gigadrone Alpha Model. He attempted to destroy the Beast Morphers Rangers but is destroyed by the Beast X Megazord.
• Tooldrone - Created when Scrozzle combined data from Tooltron with a Gigadrone Gamma Model. He attempted to destroy the Beast Morphers Rangers with the aid of a new Gigadrone Delta Model but was destroyed by the Beast-X and Striker Megazords.
• Clonedrone - Created by Scrozzle from the data of Clonetron to destroy the Rangers. Destroyed by the Beast X Megazord.
  • Tubadrone-Created from the data of Tubatron. Sent to destroy part of the Morph-X Tower Network using its sonic blast. Destroyed by the Beast-X Megazord.
  • Tubadrone 2.0 - Created from the successor to the previous Robotron sent to get revenge for the previous two defeats. Destroyed by the Racer Zord.
• Burnerdrone - Created from the data of Burnertron and sent to melt part of the Morph-X Tower Network and steal the Morph X. Destroyed by the Striker Megazord.
• Turbodrone - Created from the data of Turbotron sent to blast part of the Morph-X Tower Network and suck the Morph X dry using its fan. Destroyed by the Racer Zord being thrown upwards by the Wheeler Zord.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

• Dragonzord - Used by Tommy Oliver, the evil Mighty Morphin' Green Ranger and later Pirantishead and his clone.
• Tyrannosaurus Dinozord - Brainwashed by Pirantishead. Returned to normal by the signal jammer but was destroyed when Zedd sent it into lava. Turned into the Red Dragon Thunderzord.
• White Tigerzord - Was forced to fight the Thunder Megazord after Rita Repulsa gained control of Saba. Returned to the side of good when Tommy used the Mega Magnet to get him back.

Power Rangers (Boom! Studios)

• Alpha 1

Power Rangers Zeo

• Zeo Megazord - Sabotaged and taken control of by Cog Changer.
• Super Zeo Megazord - Taken control of by Impursonator.

Both remain in storage in thier hangars.

Power Rangers Turbo

• Robo Racer - Piloted by the brainwashed Blue Senturion. Returned to the side of good when the third wishing coin was used to make him good again and it went to Eltar with him although it's fate from then onwards is unclear.
• Turbo Megazord - Captured and taken control of by General Havoc and later piloted by Crosspatch, reclaimed by the Turbo Power Rangers and later destroyed by Goldgoyle.

Power Rangers in Space

• Delta Megaship - Turned evil by Astronema's Evilizer. Became good again when they formed the Astro Delta Megazord but later destroyed by Red Ecliptor .
• Mega Voyager - Taken over by Psycho Yellow but was later purged. Destroyed a little later on by Tankenstein.

Power Rangers Lost Galaxy

• Torozord - Fought the Rangers at the behest of the Magna Defender before his redemption and death, later sacrificed along with his powers by his successor Mike Corbett to help Terra Venture escape from the Lost Galaxy.
• Stratoforce Megazord, Centaurus Megazord and Zenith Carrierzord - Also known as the Galactabeasts, they were brainwashed by Deviot before being freed although the former two were destroyed by Trakeena through an orchestrated suicide attack.

Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue

• Omega Megazord and Lifeforce Megazord - Both hijacked and later destroyed along with their respective pilots.

Power Rangers Wild Force

• Dark Wildzords - Zords piloted by the Duke Org Zen-Aku. Defeated by the Wild Force Megazord and cleansed of evil to later be used by Merrick Baliton, the Lunar Wolf Ranger. They were destroyed by Master Org but later revived.
• Elephant Wildzord, Giraffe Wildzord and Bear Brothers Wildzords - Also brainwashed by Zen-Aku, they were freed but later destroyed by Master Org and revived.
• Wildzords - All brainwashed by the Lion Tamer Org, they were freed by Animus and eventually destroyed by Master Org but revived later on.

Power Rangers Ninja Storm

• Ninja Thunderzords/Thunder Megazord - Piloted by the brainwashed Ninja Thunder Rangers Hunter and Blake Bradley and later destroyed along with Vexacus.

Power Rangers Dino Thunder

• Biozords - The components of the Thundersaurus Megazord under Mesogog's control before being tamed by the Rangers, they were later destroyed along with the Zelzord and Mezodon Megazord by self-destructing.
• Dimetrozord - Turned evil by Elsa but tamed by Tommy and later reprogrammed by Trent Fernandez-Mercer, the White Dino Thunder Ranger.
• DinoStegazord - Converted to evil by Trent Fernandez-Mercer and later his evil clone but eventually freed. It's componants presumably remain stored behind thier waterfall.
• Cephalazord - Reprogrammed by Trent. Presumably remains stored in the Brachiozord .

Power Rangers SPD

• Delta Command Crawler/Delta Command Megazord - Used against the Rangers twice, once by Wootox who was quickly thwarted by Sky Tate and again by Broodwing but it was later deactivated by Kat Manx. The base remains in New Tech City and it's Megazord powers are presumed to have restored soon after.

Power Rangers Jungle Fury

• Bat, Shark and Elephant Animal Spirits - Brainwashed under the orders of Dai Shi but later freed.

Power Rangers RPM

• Doomsday Machine - A former Attack Bot created and controlled by Venjix. Reprogrammed and modified into the Whale Zord but later deleted by its own creator.
• Road Attack Zord - Went rogue before being successfully controlled by the Rangers.
• Paleozord/PaleoMax Megazord - Originally went rogue upon activation before a successful reprogramming by Doctor K, was later controlled by General Shifter and the Generation 16 Hyper Bot before being reclaimed by the Rangers but the first thing deleted from the Bio-Field by Venjix.

Power Rangers Samurai/Super Samurai

• TigerZord - Was under the Nighlok Madimot's mind-control powers after being lost in the last battle against Master Xandred. It was reclaimed by Jayden Shiba.
• BullZord - Went on a rampage after a young Guardian named Cody broke the symbol power seal keeping it imprisoned in a nearby mountain where Crustor and a group of Moogers were attempting to capture it as ordered by Serrator. It was tamed by Cody and Jayden.

Power Rangers Megaforce/Super Megaforce

• Turbo Falcon Zord - Went rogue upon being released into Corinth City by Professor Cog but was tamed by the Rangers. Later destroyed by the Armada Fleet.
• Robo Knight - Brainwashed using the energies of Orion by Vrak. Destroyed in Vrak's underwater base but later shown again. He presumably went back to storage after the series.

Power Rangers Dino Charge/Dino Super Charge

• Ankylo Zord - Went berserk after it was hit by one of Stingrage's stingers before Shelby Watkins removed it.
• Ptera Zord/Ptera Charge Megazord - Originally under the control of Fury after being found by him but claimed by the Rangers, later controlled by Lord Arcanon's Crew before also being reclaimed by the Rangers.
• Plesio Charge Megazord Pachy-Rex Formation and Dino Charge Megazord Tri-Stego Formation - Were controlled by Lord Arcanon's crew and both reclaimed by the Rangers.

Power Rangers Ninja Steel/Super Ninja Steel

• Robo Rider Zord - Personally remote-controlled by Cosmo Royale until freed by Levi Weston.
