Cardiatron was the heart of the Hatchasaurus who served as the true main antagonist of the episode "Birds of a Feather."

History

The Hatchasaurus is initially within an egg and Goldar mentioned that this monster once defeated the Dragonzord, though he didn't leave the Rangers any chances.

A few days later, the Hatchasaurus hatches and attacks the countryside near the Angel Grove Power Plant where it gets destroyed by the Tyrannosaurus Dinozord but Cardiatron makes him reform so they deploy in the Megazord. Then they again encounter the monster and use the Power Sword to get the same result.

Cardiatron resurrects and enhances the Hatchasaurus who easily overwhelms the Power Rangers. To defeat the Hatchasaurus, the Rangers has to get inside the Hatchasaurus and destroy Cardiatron. Jason gets into the monster but Cardiatron wraps him up in his tentacles and renders him helpless. However, Jason quickly summons the Dragon Shield which lets him break free and empower the Dragonzord (which was restrained by Rita earlier) to break free and drill into the monster's stomach, throwing Cardiatron and Jason out of the monster and onto the fields below.

Jason tries to run him down but was blasted off of his feet yet Jason remains resolute. He then charges faster than Hatchasaurus can react and Jason uses the Power Sword and Dragon Dagger to destroy Cardiatron with a devastating green and red energy slash which makes him explode into tiny red energy. Hatchasaurus is then finally destroyed by the Ultrazord. TV STORY-Birds of a Feather

Around a year later, the Hatchasaurus and by extension Cardiatron are resurrected by the Terror Blossom to distract the Power Rangers whilst he plants seeds to bud into new versions of himself. This time around, he possesses the capability to speak and is initially human sized instead of being giant by default whereas Cardiatron does not have a single line and only appears extremely briefly. Like the first time, the Rangers had to destroy Cardiatron, before they could destroy the monster completely. To defeat it the first time, they merely sprayed him with smoke from the Thunder Megazord and immediately declare victory.

Lord Zedd laments the defeat although it has distracted the Power Rangers but Cardiatron has survived the destruction of the Hatchasaurus and quickly starts to reassemble the monster.

Zordon tells the Power Rangers to destroy Cardiatron to prevent the Hatchasaurus from returning but Zedd realizes that it is still alive and blasts it with his lightning, allowing the heart to reassemble the monster much faster so the Rangers are forced to fight the Hatchasaurus once again.

The second time around, Hatchasaurus survives the Thunder Saber but the blow apparently destroys Cardiatron for good despite him still being inside of the Hatchasaurus. With his heart gone, the Hatchasaurus is enraged and charges but the Power Rangers permanently destroy him with the White Tigerzord. TV STORY-The Ninja Encounter

Personality

Cardiatron spoke in an arrogant and confident, but aristocratic and intellectual manner but was intensely loyal to Rita and (presumably) Lord Zedd. However, he was also an incredible coward since he cowered at Jason charging at him instead of attacking to try and hold him off.

Powers and Abilities

Powers

• Reassembling: Cardiatron could resurrect the Hatchasaurus every time he was destroyed.
  • Enhancement: Cardiatron would also make him progressively stronger in the process. The only way to stop the monster from becoming unbeatable due to his strength was to disconnect and destroy Cardiatron.

Abilities

• Strength: Cardiatron could hold a struggling Jason in his tentacles as well as thrown him across a field with one swing.
• Durability: Cardiatron withstood the destruction of the Hatchasaurus by the Tyrannosaurus Dinozord, Dino Megazord, and Thunder Megazord.

• Tentacles: Cardiatron had long orange tentacles that he can use to throw around his enemies like toys as well as whip them.
  • Energy Blast: Cardiatron could fire large red energy blasts from the tips of his tentacles that were powerful enough to take down Jason in one hit.

Portrayal

• Cardiatron was voiced by Richard Cansino in its first appearance but didn't speak in his second and wasn't even shown aside from stock footage of it reforming the Hatchasaurus.

Notes

• Cardiatron was given a name whereas his direct counterpart was just Dora Anteus' heart. He could also speak unlike his counterpart who remained completely silent.
• How Cardiatron actually resurrected the Hatchasaurus was inconsistent. The first time that it is shown, after the Tyrannosaurus slew the beast, he can be seen sucking the pieces of the monster towards him but in the second, after being destroyed by the Megazord, just rises into the air and the monster reforms around him from orange energy.
  • It is entirely possible that there was no real way that Cardiatron resurrected the monster and it was just situational. The reformation was used for when the monster has just been blown apart and the energy reformation may be used if he was vaporized.
