Brennan Alexander Mejia (pronounced /meh-HEE-uh/) is an American actor and gymnast who portrayed Tyler Navarro/Dino Charge Red in Power Rangers Dino Charge and Power Rangers Dino Super Charge, with his most recent reprisal of the role in Power Rangers Beast Morphers.
Biography[]
Mejia began his career as a model and enjoyed fairly moderate success. However as felt that modeling did not suit him, he decided to pursue acting. While doing both at the same time, he landed his first role as a guest in CSI: Miami. Since then, he has had roles in shows such as iCarly, 90210, American Horror Story, and the indie film Kaboom!.
Mejia began auditioning for Power Rangers in Power Rangers Samurai, receiving multiple callbacks for the role of Antonio Garcia before getting cut. He skipped the auditions for Power Rangers Megaforce and returned to audition for Dino Charge where he ultimately won the role of Tyler. Mejia starred in the series for two seasons and reprised his role in Power Rangers Beast Morphers.
Mejia had also competed on American Ninja Warrior before being cast in Dino Charge and competed again after the end of Dino Supercharge.
Since 2019, Mejia has run his own YouTube channel where he discusses various topics mainly regarding the Power Rangers franchise, including reactions, rankings, reviews and Q&As where he tends to share stories and facts about his career, as well as having started out sharing fitness and acting tips. Mejia has also appeared in several of Kamen Rider Dragon Knight
-star Stephen Ford
's independent film projects.
In 2022, Mejia was Kumail Nanjiani's stunt double in the Star-Wars Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi.[1]
Personal life[]
- His father is from Honduras, with roots in El Salvador and Providence, Rhode Island. His mother is from New York, and is of Italian-German-English-Irish descent.
- Mejia has been married to Katelyn Scholte since 2015. Scholte appeared in as a background character in various episodes of Dino Charge.
- On June 19, 2024, Mejia released a Q&A video to answer the questions he gets asked the most from conventions.[2]
- Mejia based his performance of Tyler off of Jason Faunt's portrayal of Wesley Collins and cites him to be his favorite Ranger as well as Power Rangers Time Force as his favorite show. Mejia had watched Time Force with and on the recommendation of co-star Yoshi Sudarso while filming Dino Charge. He also cited the Gold Zeo Ranger to be his favorite suit design.
- Mejia's favorite episode is "One More Energem" as he was able to work with the stunt team heavily during filming.
- Mejia watched Mighty Morphin Power Rangers as a child. He was an avid collector of the toys and often played Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Fighting Edition with his friend.
- After filming ended, Mejia kept Tyler's Red Energem prop.
- Mejia watched Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger fully and listens to "Vamola! Kyoryuger" during his workouts.
- Mejia has stayed close friends with co-star Yoshi Sudarso since the end of filming.
- On September 25, 2024, Mejia released a video stating his top ten Rangers of the franchise and his reasoning:[3]
- Wesley Collins - Mejia stated that Wes was the embodiment of a hero to him and was who he wanted to be, which ultimately inspired him to emulate Wes' energy in his portrayal of Tyler.
- Tommy Oliver - Although Mejia acknowledged Tommy's future Ranger colors, Mejia was a fan of the Green Ranger's ability to use his Dragon Dagger and summon the Dragonzord.
- Adam Park - Mejia appreciated Adam's overall character.
- Koda - Mejia sympathized with Koda's struggle to adapt to modern-day civilian life, and praised Yoshi Sudarso's performance of the character. Mejia stated that he was impressed with Sudarso's transition from being a in-suit performer for various Power Rangers at meet-and-greet performances to being officially cast as his own unique Ranger and character himself, as well with his dedication and passion for the Super Sentai source material. Mejia noted that Sudarso's Super Sentai knowledge helped with minor stunt work in the absence of the stunt-team.
- Billy Cranston - Mejia praised David Yost's subtle portrayal of a character who was more brains than brawn.
- Jen Scotts - Mejia loved the energy of a Pink Ranger leader and praised Erin Cahill's portrayal of the character.
- Amelia Jones - Mejia found Amelia's character groundbreaking for being the first female Red Ranger and praised Hunter Deno's ability to maintain her athleticism even after filming had ended.
- Zhane - Mejia stated that Zhane's bleached blonde hair had almost made him want to do so as well. He also noted that the Silver Space Ranger's suit was amongst one his favorites.
- Sir Ivan of Zandar - Mejia was impressed by co-star Davi Santos' portrayal of the character and liked his on-screen charisma, while also noting his friendship with Santos' on-set.
- Kimberly Ann Hart - Aside from the fact that Kimberly was a popular choice for a childhood crush, Mejia had likened Kimberly's gymnastics background to his own acrobatics background as the skills required for both were similar.
- Mejia previously auditioned for Power Rangers Samurai.
