The Boonboom Controller (ブンブンコントローラー, Bunbun Kontorōrā) is the main transformation device and sidearm of Bun Violet.

History

The Boonboom Controller was created by Bundorio Bunderas during his time as a racer in the Big Bang Grand Prix as a way to make himself faster. Due to its power being too hard to control, he would dispose of it and the device would later be found by Sakito Homura.

The Boonboom Controller is designed similarly to that of a video game controller, with a D-Pad (▲, ▼, ◄, ►) on the left side and four colored buttons (red, blue, green, pink) on the right side.

The Boonboom Controller has two forms, Controller Mode (コントローラーモード, Kontorōrā Mōdo) and Bowgun Mode (ボウガンモード, Bougan Mōdo).

To initiate his transformation, Sakito presses the red, blue, and green buttons. He then presses the red button three times before pulling the cross trigger. It then shoots energy arrows that release lightning that forms lasers to create the suit. The controller then returns itself to Sakito's hand and the Bakuage Tire is attached to his head, completing the transformation.

Alternatively, instead of Purple Lightning, the Boonboom Controller will release a purple energy ball that circles around Sakito, creating the suit. After the controller returns to Sakito's hand, a Bakuage Tire will be attached to his head, forming the Helmet.

To summon Byunbyum Mach, Bun Violet presses the ▲, ▼, and pink buttons. Byun Diesel then enlarges himself and changes into Byunbyum Mach.

To initiate the Bakuage Fire attack, Bun Violet presses the red, blue, and ▲ buttons, then pulls back and releases the trigger. To initiate the ByunByum Finish, Bun Violet presses the ►, green, and ◄ buttons, then presses any button on the controller three times.

Behind the Scenes

Portrayal

The Boonboom Controller is voiced by Natsuki Hanae (花江 夏樹, Hanae Natsuki) who also voices Byun Diesel in the series.

Design

While the Boonboom Handle is based on a steering wheel crossed with tools a pit crew uses in racing, the Boonboom Controller is based off of a video game controller and a Formula race car steering wheel.

Etymology

The weapon’s name comes from byun byun, an onomatopoeia that can be used to describe the rev of an engine and the English word Controller, alluding to the video game controller theme and steering wheel functionality of the device.

Notes

• The different functions of the Boonboom Controller are activated by a sequence of button presses on the controller, which harkens back to retro games that had secret codes by inputting the buttons in a certain sequence. (Ex. the Konami Code)
• In the DX version, the various buttons are instead two separate buttons. As such, the different functionality depends on the order of the two buttons pressed.
