Billy Cranston is the Blue Ranger of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and the second-in-command to Tommy Oliver . An armored warrior, The Blue Ranger had the power of the Triceratops channeled through his Power Morpher and Power Coin.
When the Command Center was destroyed, the Rangers were forced to teleport to Phaedos in order to retrieve the Great Power with the last remaining power of the Command Center, to the dying Zordon's protests.
Once there, he and the other rangers meet Dulcea, who once learning of their mentor Zordon's plight, helps them tap into the power of the Ninjetti, where Billy learned that in him is an animal spirit waiting to be released - his being the Wolf. As Ninjetti, he and the rangers travel to the Monolith in order to retrieve the Great Power. Though waylaid by the Gatekeepers, Billy and the others manage to access the Monolith, which also bore the Wolf symbol among its many creature emblems. It's here where Billy gained the power of the Wolf Ninjazord. The zords return the rangers' powers and Billy finds himself clad in his familiar ranger armor with the Wolf's symbol emblazoned on his chest.
He returned to Angel Grove with the other Rangers to battle Ivan Ooze and emerged victorious. With his Ninjetti power, he, along with the other rangers managed to revive the dying Zordon, reconstruct his plasma tube and return the Command Center to a fully-functioning state.
Blue Ranger
Dino Charger
As part of NYCC 2015, Bandai released an exclusive Dino Charge Mighty Morphin' Movie Charger set with each Dino Charger depicting four pictures.[1] In Mighty Morphin' Blue's case, it featured his Ranger form, the Stega Stinger, the Wolf NinjaZord, and the MMPR Movie title.
Differences with TV version
- Billy serves the team as their technical genius, however it's unknown if he was like that in the movie.
- He doesn't wear glasses, meaning he either wore contact lenses or had perfect eye sight. (Although in the later episodes of the TV series, he mentions wearing contact lenses so it's possible he's already wearing them).
Notes
- Like the TV series, Billy's costume design was based on the Zyurangers, like the rest of the Rangers. Specifically, Billy's costume was based on TriceraRanger. However it bore the chest symbol, unlike the show, but much like the Power Rangers toyline figures and early promotional art.
- His 'new' Wolf powers and zord were based from the TV show Ninja Sentai Kakuranger.
- In 2017, vinyl toy company The Loyal Subjects produced a series of Action Vinyls based on the 1995 film, with blind boxes containing either a figure, or a Zord with a corresponding minifigure.[2][3] Each vinyl toy also came with a corresponding profile card. For Billy's card, he is described as a "useful asset to the Rangers" due to his "clever mind, and knack for creating gadgets." If this is considered canonical then it means Billy is a technical genius similar to the TV version.
- Additionally, movie Billy's Loyal Subjects profile card describes him as "one of the core members" of the Power Rangers. The only other movie Ranger in this set described as a core member in the profile cards is Kimberly. Based on the limited info provided by the cards and the film, it could either be seen as saying Billy and Kimberly are important to the team, or implying that they were two of the original Power Rangers on the team (similar to the TV show).
