- "One! Hating cruel wickedness! S.P.D.! DekaRed!"
- ―DekaRed's role call[src]
Banban "Ban" Akaza (赤座 伴番 Akaza Banban) is DekaRed (デカレッド Deka Reddo) of the S.P.D. and Dekarangers. At the end of the series, Ban was promoted to DekaFire as part of the S.P.D. Fire Squad, granting him new equipment and weapons.
History
Dekaranger

An appointment for Ban.
Banban was a rookie on Planet Chambeena who was assigned to delete the intergalactic jewel thief Diamantian Don Moyaida. However during the pursuit, Banban finds a victim of Moyaida; a boy who admired the Special Police and he makes a promise to the boy that he will became the No.1 Special Police as a way to achieve the boy's dream and a devotion for himself. He then hunts down Moyaida in Pat Striker and, after getting his deletion approved by the Universal Supreme Court, seemingly kills Don Moyaida by running his Heavy Industrial Machine off the road. he is then promoted by his superior to the Earth division of SPD and arrives just as the Earth Dekarangers are having trouble with a Batsuroid. Upon arriving, he morphs and defeats the Batsuroid and its Anaroids but unfortunately destroys the Batsuroid with his D-Magnums instead of taking it in for questioning. Despite this mistake, Doggie Kruger makes Banban the leader of his team though Houji is left in charge during several situations. TV STORY-Episode. 01: Fireball Newcomer
Banban meets Zoinaian Baytonin, whom had met Ban's ancestor but is tricked by Agent Abrella into thinking that the Dekarangers are invaders. He is given Doggie's D-Sword Vega for a moment and defeat the alien as well as convince him that some of people nowadays are trying to protect their historic heritage. TV STORY-Episode. 18: Samurai Go West
The Algolian Gas Drinkers come to Earth to conquer it after turning the entire population of planet Leslie into thier machine slaves and manage to escape the Dekarangers after a short chase. During the investigation, Ban encounters Mary Gold, a nightclub singer who is actually an undercover Dekaranger agent from Leslie who managed to escape the infection. Ban develops feelings for her and is upset when she betrays them to free her planet but becomes enraged when the Gas Drinkers betray her and inject her with the virus used to infect her planet. The Dekarangers summarily delete most of the Gas Drinkers with Ban having a personal fight with the group's leader Algolian Volka who is soon deleted and Mary is saved in time. Although she has to leave to free her planet, she confirms that she too has feelings for Ban before leaving. TV STORY-Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger the Movie: Full Blast Action
During Dynamoian Terry X's attack, he witnesses Houji and Jasmine's recklessness when fighting the Alienizer that had injured Gyoku Rou, Ban's predecessor. Seeing the effect the case is having on the two, Ban tracks down Rou after forcing information on Rou's location from Supreme Commander Horusian Numa-O using unconventional means. Ban and Rou return to Earth and, after being reminded to keep their emotions at bay, Hoji and Jasmine, along with the other members of Earth branch, defeat Terry X. TV STORY-Episode. 47: Wild Heart, Cool Brain
A few weeks later, Gyoku returns to the DekaBase and announces that he intends for Ban to become his successor in the Fire Squad which he accepts although he knows that this will take him away from his team. Before Ban can leave however, he encounters Kulernian Jellyfis who he and his teammates delete but this is a distraction to allow Agent Abrella to invade the DekaBase with a massive army. TV STORY-Episode. 48: Fireball Succession
Although Agent Abrella de-powers the Dekarangers, Ban is able to reach the command console and give back thier powers and stop Numa D from running into a forcefield around the Earth. He then confronts Agent Abrella in the DekaBase control room, overpowering and kicking him out of the window where he lands on concrete alongside his generals. They then do battle, Ban overpowering and crippling Abrella with his D-Magnum combination before judging him for crimes against the universe of which he is found guilty. Abrella screams that defeating him is pointless since all criminals want money but Ban rebuts that everyone has the desire to do good and thus cruelty will never thrive before they delete him with the D-Bazooka. After this, Banban leaves to join the Fire Squad which forces him to leave the Earth Branch's S.P.D but not his bonds with his former teammates. TV STORY-Episode. 50: Forever Dekaranger

DekaRed was the first Sentai Red to have a Hand-Off to his successor at the end of his final episode.

Whilst with the Fire Squad, Ban establishes a relationship with Mary off-screen and they apparently get engaged. Around a year after his departure returns to help his old team when Jasmine gets kidnapped though he's on the search for Agent X at the time. During his time with FireSquad, he has gained a upgrade called the DekaRed Battlizer where the modified Murphy becomes a suit of armor and powerful sword for him to use in the fight. He is at odds with Kai Ozu/MagiRed but the two manage to settle their differences and finally take down the agent. Whilst the Sentai teams celebrating their victory, both Ban and Kai show each others' crush with Houji asking him if Ban "popped the question" to Mary. TV STORY-Mahou Sentai Magiranger vs. Dekaranger

Akibaranger

The imaginary DekaRed with Ban's voice encourages Nobuo Akagi.
The unofficial Sentai series Hikonin Sentai Akibaranger starts off with die-hard Super Sentai fan Nobuo Akagi daydreaming that he is Ban, with red duct tape around his legs and the S.P.D. logo taped to the back of his jacket, covering the logo of where he actually works, which ironically has the same acronym (Sasaki Ponpoko Delivery), in an attempt to resemble Ban's uniform. The tape is promptly ripped off by his boss when he walks in, addressing her as Umeko. TV STORY-Ep. 1: Lameness is Power

When Nobuo becomes disillusioned, he sees a DekaRed who speaks to him in signs and snaps him out of it with the same drop kick Ban used to snap Hoji out of it in Dekaranger. What Nobuo didn't know was that the DekaRed he saw was actually a suit actor paid by Hiroyo Hakase. An delusion DekaRed later appears during the battle of Akibarangers and Team Evil Stemer Corporation and encourages Akiba Red. He grants the Akibarangers the Dekarangers' Inordinate Power, transforming into the Deka Wapper, allowing the Akibarangers to defeat Shibuyakouzorinahigenagaaburamushi. Ten years after his battle against Abrella ended, Ban is given another upgrade in his DekaRed suit and wears an entirely new uniform instead of the regular one he used in his early days. This time, his suit incorporates a bulletproof vest similar to SWAT Mode. After his former commander Doggie Kruger allegedly becomes an Alienizer, Ban returns to Earth to investigate the case. Ban, along with Umeko, visits Jasmine who has a son with Hikaru Hiwatari. Ban convinces her to return to work with the case in which she thinks twice. Ban later uses his Fire Squad license to disguise himself as Carrie while the real Carrie is brought to the Dekabase in a remote planet in order to protect her as being witness to her dad's murder. At the same time, he is about to discover the truth about the Neo Dekarangers, Assam Asimov (his replacement as DekaRed) and Mugi Grafton (who replaced Jasmine as DekaYellow) working undercover with an Alienizer. As Carrie, he is being handcuffed by Assam and Mugi and they bought him in a warehouse before Umeko discovers them. By surprise, Ban reveals himself after taking off his Carrie disguise and he, alongside Umeko and the original Dekarangers to battle Assam, Mugi and Kight Reidlich, who reveals to be the mastermind behind the framing of Doggie Krueger and the murderer of Carrie's father. After Tetsu, piloting the Dekaranger Robo, destroys the giant Clone Abrella, Ban and the team proceeds to battle Assam, Mugi and Kight, until Kight uses Assam and Mugi to power himself up. Doggie later shows up to lend Ban his D-Sword Vega and he uses it to destroy Kight once and for all. [1] Afterwards Ban decides to leave before he got too accustomed to being back on Earth, but reminds the others that while they may be apart, their hearts will always be one. Personality
- "Even so, we still believe that... that in every living being in the universe... burns an eternal heart of justice! As long as that exists, evil will never flourish!"
- ―Ban's beliefs stated after Agent Abrella claimed that crime would continue even after his death.[src]
Ban was training in space until he was assigned to the Earth Unit. He has a chaotic, but fiercely loyal and friendly personality. However, ever since his enlistment in the Fire Squad, Ban had become more matured and, on a few occasions, seemed to have a cold outlook. Irritates Houji by calling him "aibou", which translates to "buddy" or "partner". He has a special martial arts technique called Juu Kun Do when he blends his martial arts skills with his dual guns. Ban also has a sword technique called Azaka Style: Raijin-Ken passed down by his ancestor. Ban rides in Machine Doberman with Jasmine when patrolling. In the series finale, Ban joined the S.P.D. Fire Squad as a new elite officer. One of Ban's core beliefs is that everyone inherently has a burning desire (or "heart") to do good and would stop evil as much as possible. In both of the Dekaranger teamups, Ban notably had initial trouble in getting along with the red ranger members Ryouga and Kai from the Abaranger and Magiranger teams at first, which lead to an argument, until they bonded with him seeing how similar their goals were. Ban also called Kai "aibou" in the team-up, his affectionate term usually reserved for Houji, much to the latter's annoyance. When he appeared in Gokaiger, Ban had become more reserved. By 10 Years After, Ban seems to have returned to a much more warm and friendly nature, lacking his previous hostile outlook and his relationship with Houji is much more warm and better compared to their early days, as the two are shown to be on good-on terms with each other.

Behind the Scenes
Portrayal

Banban "Ban" Akaza is portrayed by Ryuji Sainei (載寧 龍二 Sainei Ryūji). As DekaRed, his suit actor was Hirofumi Fukuzawa (福沢 博文 Fukuzawa Hirofumi).
Design
- He wore red spandex with a large, black "1" on the left side, which extended over the entire left arm, except for the white gloves. His belt buckle held the S.P.D. emblem. His helmet bore the S.P.D. emblem over the Visor, with a rounded single shape in between the two.
- In the Korean dub of Dekaranger entitled Power Rangers S.P.D., which aired in South Korea, Ban is renamed Tan, while his Ranger designation is S.P. Red.
Etymology
His family name contains the kanji "Aka" (赤 lit. "Red"), symbolizing his position as DekaRed. His first name, Banban, is a reference to "bang", the onomatopoeia for gunfire, which also referring to him as a Juu-Kun-Do practitioner.

- "Dekaranger!"

The DekaRed Ranger Key (デカレッドレンジャーキー Deka Reddo Renjā Kī) is Banban Akaza's personal Ranger Key and what became of his powers after he along with the rest of the 34 Super Sentai sacrificed their powers to end the Great Legend War.
This key along with the majority of the Ranger Keys were collected by the Red Pirates and later used by the Gokaigers. The DekaRed Ranger Key was mainly used by Captain Marvelous (Gokai Red), who used it to fight as DekaRed. It was also used by Don Dogoier (Gokai Green) on one occasion and Gai Ikari (Gokai Silver) on two occasions.
- Don became DekaRed as part of an all-red Gokai Change when the Gokaigers traveled to the past and fought against Shitari of the Bones and his Gedoushu during the Goseigers' team-up with the Shinkengers.

DekaRed Zyudenchi
The Super Sentai Zyudenchi (スーパー戦隊獣電池 Sūpā Sentai, Super Squadron Beast Batteries), alternatively named Legend Sentai Zyudenchi (レジェンド戦隊獣電池 Rejendo Sentai Jūdenchi, Legend Squadron Beast Batteries) in the toyline, are a special line of Zyudenchi that contain the likeness of the Sentai teams before Kyoryuger (represented by the main Reds). These Zyudenchi are in the same fashion as the "Legend Rider" lines of Collectible Devices in the Kamen Rider Series.
A Dekaranger Zyudenchi which bears the likeness of DekaRed is part of the Legend Sentai Zyudenchi toyline which can be used in Super Sentai Battle: Dice-O.

Dekaranger Ressha
The Legend Sentai Ressha (レジェンド戦隊レッシャー Rejendo Sentai Ressha) are Ressha based on the mecha, specifically those belonging to the Red heroes, of the ToQgers' preceding Super Sentai teams. They can form a unique combination of ToQ-Oh reminiscent of past Sentai Robos by switching with Red Ressha. The ToQ Changer toy is shown to have sounds for Legend Ressha of all 37 previous Sentai.
Dekaranger Ressha (デカレンジャーレッシャー Dekarenjā Ressha) - Appears as an SG Ressha. The actual ToQ Ressha is likely based off of DekaRed's personal vehicle Pat Striker; should it replace Red Ressha in ToQ-Oh, it would most likely form ToQ-Oh Dekaranger Robo.
The DekarangerSoul (デカレンジャーソウル DekarenjāSōru) as yet only exists as an unused sound in the Ryusoulgers' Ryusoul Ken.[3][4]
