This article is about an episode in Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger. |
Bakuage 8: Runaway and Divide (暴走と分裂 Bōsō to Bunretsu) is the eighth episode of Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger. It features the debut of Boonboom Racing, Boonboom Off-Road Ghost, and the combination of Boonboomger Robo Puncher.
Synopsis[]
The formation of the Boonboomgers was originally for Taiya's dream, not to fight against the Hashiriyan. Mira and Jyo are dissatisfied with Taiya for not telling them about it... Then, all of the other Boonboomgers except Taiya are locked in the Sanseaters' cage...!?
Plot[]
The Boonboomgers are in Highway Space racing each other and testing out two new Boonboom Cars on the track, the Off-Road Ghost and Boonboom Racing.
Taiya tests the latter and activates its Bakuage Burner nitro boost function, speeding along until the controls start to short out from the power boost, forcing him to hit the brakes and drop out of the race. Ishiro wins the Bakuage Speed Test race, with Taiya disappointed about his vehicle’s mechanical problems but tries to be optimistic and is satisfied that Off-Road Ghost works. Still, he thinks he has a lot of work to do to get Boonboom Racing functioning properly.
In the alley, Madrex fumes about the Sanseaters continuously losing to the Boonboomgers, smashing things, saying he can’t face his superior Waruido Spindo like this. He vows that he will make the Earth into the gang’s territory and he will destroy Bun Red for his humiliation. Maxrex revs up so intensely that he becomes a blazing inferno, with the Trio freaking out at how furious their boss looks and Itasha predicting that the next fight with the Boonboomgers will be a nasty one.
The three then try to quietly sneak off to give Madrex time to cool down but he notices and shouts for them to come to him. He finally stops his flames and asks them to capture Bun Red, the Trio ask how they can do that, but Madrex simply stares and lets out an evil chuckle.
Back at Hando Manor, Taiya is laying atop his sofa in pain, as the whiplash of going full speed and stopping made his back sore. Bun Bun puts a lidocaine patch on him and then offers to make him curry.
Down in the garage, Mira is worried about Taiya and asks Ishiro if he thinks he’s alright. Ishiro says that Boonboom Racing has some serious power that is in a league of its own. Even with his protective suit, Taiya’s body cannot handle the strain and using the vehicle will take a toll on him. Still, the test of Off-Road Ghost went without a hitch. Genba says it is a prototype made with parts he procured, it can create temporary tangible duplicates. Jyo is impressed and Mira asks where he got the parts from, Genba says that is his little secret.
Agent Saibu enters the garage and is hiding a gift bag behind her back, asking why Genba chose now to become a Boonboomger. He calls it a shift in perspective, while Ishiro explains that Taiya wanted him on the team, she seems satisfied with that answer for now. She then asks where Bun Bun is, with Mira saying he’s gone out for now and will be back later. Agent Saibu sadly says she wanted to give him a present, a Belora CD, Mira offers to deliver it to him but Shirabe cries that she wants to do it herself and then recomposes herself stoically saying she will handle it.
Ishiro wonders if that was the only reason that the ISA agent had for coming to the Garage, to which Agent Saibu says that isn’t true as she wants to discuss the arsenal upgrades that they will need to fight the Hashiriyans. Genba is confused as the Boonboomgers were formed to participate in the “BBG”. Everyone else except Ishiro is confused as to what Genba is talking about, to which he asks Ishiro if Taiya ever told them. Ishiro isn’t surprised Taiya would keep it a secret, with Mira remembering that Taiya is working towards some kind of dream and Jyo asks Genba what that could be. Genba says that the BBG stands for Big Bang Grand Prix, an intergalactic race featuring competing drivers from all across the universe. Mira tries to imagine what a space car race would look like and thinks that sounds awesome.
Jyo on the other hand doesn’t take this well, having assumed that the Boonboomgers were heroes made to defend the Earth and the Boonboom Cars were their arsenal to aid in their mission. Ishiro says that the Boonboom Cars were created solely to race in the BBG, but were modified to fight against the Hashiriyans in the meantime. Agent Saibu also doesn’t take the revelation well, believing that she was deceived and the Boonboom Cars were only made for Taiya’s amusement and the team has been used by Taiya for his own benefit. Taiya had eavesdropped on the conversation and enters, saying it is understandable that someone would see things that way. Mira asks him why he would keep the race a secret, while Jyo starts to get angry and asks what the team really are to him. Before he can come up with any answer, an alert goes out as the Hashiriyans are on a rampage in the city, with Taiya saying they will talk about it later. The team heads out, but Jyo and Mira hesitate a bit before coming along and Agent Saibu is mulling over what to do next.
The Sanseater Trio are coordinating the attack, which oddly only has Nejiretta assaulting and chasing after civilians. Decotrade instructs over his microphone for the lackeys to make the humans scream, which works as Gassholin comes out. Itasha tells Yaiyai to get to work, with the little car going around gobbling up all the Gassholin that is being created. Though they notice that Yaiyai seems calmer and doesn’t have his red eyes like he usually does when gobbling up the Gassholin, which they find odd.
Taiya kicks a Nejiretta and fights more off as the others try to rescue civilians, only for the Trio to order their grunts to fall back. Jyo, Ishiro, Mira and Genba chase after them and enter a warehouse, they find two unconscious high school students with Jyo going to help the young boy and Mira tries to help the girl. Ishiro notices something is off and tries to warn both of them that this is a trap. But he is too late as the two are revealed to be Itasha and Decotrade and cages fall down from the ceiling, trapping all four of them.
Itasha and Decotrade are unable to get their school uniforms off and Taiya arrives and criticizes one major flaw in their plan: How are they going to get out of the cage? The two finally get their disguises off and realize that they are trapped inside the cages with their intended prey and start to panic as they don’t know how to get out. Decotrade immediately asks Genba for help getting out, which he doesn’t know how to do. Jyo suggests that they transform and break the bars, which the four Rangers attempt, but the cage is outfitted with an anti-transformation sensor that generates an electric field that shocks its occupants upon attempting to utilize their Boonboom Changers. The two villains get shocked too and mock their efforts as when you order custom Hashiriyan goods, you get quality products, with Itasha briefly pinned down by Ishiro going limp from the shock.
Mira begs Taiya to help them, but he says he is going to be preoccupied at the moment as Madrex enters the warehouse. Taiya realizes this was all just to draw him out to fight the commander, agreeing to battle as the lives of his teammates are on the line. Taiya changes into Bun Red as Madrex demands that both of them go all out and charges towards him. The two clash their weapons and then try to overpower each other with a boost, which results in their attacks missing and causing a massive explosion. The two manage to slash each other’s bodies which douse the flames and stand still for a moment.
Madrex is really impressed with his foe’s fighting skills and offers Taiya a spot on his crew. He says that he can tell that Taiya is looking for someone who can fire him up and all he manages to find are those “chumps in the cages”. He offers to let Taiya race across the universe with him, Taiya takes that as a compliment. Madrex says he is being generous and thinks even Wyald Spinder would like Taiya if he joined. Taiya asks if the big boss is stronger than Madrex, to which he says that Waruido Spindo is and “too big for even the universe itself”. Taiya says that sounds interesting, he shoots Madrex and proposes that if he defeats him he can be his boss. Madrex loves the sound of that proposal and accepts, with both resuming their fight. Jyo is in disbelief that Taiya would say something like that but Ishiro tells him and Mira to calm down and trust Taiya. Mira is not sure she can and the other three are starting to have their doubts as well.
Madrex powers up his Hot Deathrod to maximum for his drill attack, but Taiya powers up his blade and jumps to avoid it, then generates the tires on his back to attach to his sides like a gyro to do a fast aerial sideswipe for a Bakuage Finish. Madrex falls and Taiya declares himself the winner, but the hot blooded commander refuses to go down and says that if Taiya won’t join him then he will scrap him. He then enacts the second phase of his plan, calling out for Yaiyai to give him the Gassholin he collected, hitting the little subordinate with his weapon and then forcibly squeezing the Gassholin right out of him. Itasha and Decotrade are horrified to see their friend be brutally tortured as Madrex absorbs it all to power up and grow into a giant. Bun Bun is alerted to the rampaging Mad Rex and prepares to sortie the Boonboom Cars. The collapse of the building breaks opens the cages, freeing everyone, with Itasha worrying about Yaiyai and Decotrade in disbelief that their boss would be so cruel to one of their own.
Mira is hesitant to save the day, but Jyo says for now they must stop Madrex. The four Rangers suit up and the team tries using Boonboomger Robo Police to take care of Mad Rex, but the commander transforms his Hot Deathrod into a motorized unicycle and runs circles around them. He also uses the drill part to ram Bun Bun and cause a lot of damage, with Genba thinking that if they can’t outrun him they can overpower him with Builder.
The team switches to Boonboomger Robo Builder, but Madrex changes his Hot Deathrod back to its default state and wails on Bun Bun, knocking away his hammer. They try to use the default Boonboomger Robo, but Madrex attacks Boonboom Wagon before it can dock and the resulting damage sends Mira and Jyo falling out of the mecha and hard onto the ground. Both are knocked out of their transformations and are now too injured to fight. Taiya desperately tries to keep up with the rampaging Madrex by switching to Boonboomger Robo Nitoryuu, which seems to work for only a second as Madrex engulfs his weapon in flames and fires another drill projectile, critically damaging Bun Bun’s chest, shorting the controls and breaking Boonboom Off-Road’s screwdriver blade which has to disengage its Attack Mode.
Madrex gloats that this is the true strength of a commander of the Hashiriyans. Jyo is in disbelief as they didn’t even make a dent on Madrex, Mira pleas for Taiya to retreat as his opponent is too strong. Ishiro asks if they should fall back but Taiya refuses, opting to use Boonboom Off-Road Ghost, Genba isn’t sure that is a good idea since it is a prototype but Taiya says that the tests were fine so they need to use it. The Car electrocutes Genba and Ishiro and ejects them outside as it attaches itself to the bare right arm of Boonboomger Robo. Bun Bun feels good about this new combination and decides to call it Boonboomger Robo Puncher. Madrex tries to ram Bun Bun again on his motor unicycle but gets hit by an uppercut and sent flying. The two combatants charge at each other, unleashing powerful hook punches that connect, but the fight ends in a stalemate as Bun Bun takes more damage and Off-Road Ghost is snapped off of his arm while Madrex is sent flying.
Bun Bun is badly injured and struggles to his feet with Taiya equally worn out and hurt. Madrex retreats for now, promising to finish their fight later. The team find Bun Bun limping but carrying a very weak Taiya, they carry him for Bun Bun and their leader shrugs off his injuries as if they were nothing. Mira is upset that Taiya did something so reckless, wondering why he would risk his own life so carelessly and theirs as well. Taiya stands to his feet, as if to answer her, but suddenly passes out from his injuries. Bun Bun tries to keep him conscious but Taiya isn’t responding as he lies on the ground.
