Synopsis[]
Jyo is assigned to watch over the Boonboomgers. He wants to protect people in a cool way, so he says, "Please let me join the Boonboomgers!" However, Taiya refuses, saying, "You can't do it!"
Plot[]
Jyo arrives at the garage in his civilian clothes and salutes the team, saying he is reporting for duty. Ishiro reminds Jyo that he is just the “go-between” and Taiya says that Jyo can just relax for now.
Jyo doesn’t just want to be the contact between the Boonboomgers and the I.S.A., he wants to be part of the team as a Ranger. Jyo’s reason is to protect the people as impressively as they do and he has always looked up to superheroes as long as he can remember. He thinks he will look as cool as they do taking down the bad guys and pleads to help them. Taiya surprises everyone by refusing Jyo’s request, as he is now, Jyo simply doesn’t have what it takes to be part of the team.
At a closed bar somewhere in the city, the Sanseater Trio look at the newspaper and see that the Boonboomgers made the front page again with no mention of them whatsoever. Yaiyai complains again that the photographers didn’t even bother getting a picture of them. Decotrade sits at the bar, throwing a dart at the board, while Yaiyai continues to complain that nobody notices them or asks them for interviews. Itasha wonders if she should have shouted her name more when they were on camera. She throws a dart but misses the board entirely, which Decotrade teases her about how bad she is at this game with him and Yaiyai laughing at her. This angers Itasha and she decides to make the dartboard into her next Kurumaju, placing her Ignition Key into it to create the Darts Grumer.
Back at the garage, Taiya is preparing the modifications to the Boonboom PatoCars with Bun Bun while Mira shows disappointment at Taiya’s decision since it would have meant she was no longer the rookie of the team. Ishiro was surprised by Taiya’s decision, but Taiya seemingly ignores the two and observes the modifications being assembled.
On a bridge over the river, Jyo sulks and looks out at some ducks swimming in the water, wondering what he is lacking to qualify as a Ranger. He speculates that maybe he needs to improve his skills as he sees a duck swimming all alone away from the group. He then hears a scream and races to where it is, seeing a man being forced to play a game for Darts Grumer’s amusement. The old man doesn’t want to play, having seen what happened to the last person who lost, a young man who is now constantly being bludgeoned by toy mallets that actually hurt him, draining his screams into Ghassolin.
The accompanying Nejiretta threaten the old man, who reluctantly agrees to play darts. He is nearsighted and adjusts his glasses to try and make out the target on Darts Grumer’s right shoulder, throwing the dart and missing the bullseye. Darts Grumer gives him a “consolation prize”, a foot massage mat covered in sharp colored stones that hurt the poor old man’s feet causing him to scream in pain and create more Ghassolin. A female office worker is chosen next to as a contestant as Darts absorbs the Ghassolin, with Jyo hiding nearby and calling Taiya on his cell phone to alert the others about the evil dart board. Taiya thanks Jyo for the tip, but tells him to stay clear and out of sight.
Jyo decides to disobey that order when the office worker cries for help, revealing himself and asking Darts Grumer if he can take her place in the game. Darts Grumer agrees and Jyo takes his position and aims, throwing the dart directly into Darts Grumer’s left eye, the monster is blinded and in pain as Jyo uses this as an opportunity to save the civilians from being tortured and held captive. The Nejiretta overreact to their commander’s plight and all come to his aid, which allows the civilians time to escape. Jyo then lures an enraged Darts Grumer away from them as he runs away into an unoccupied warehouse. Darts Grumer blocks Jyo’s way forward and punches him, then picks him up, beating him and tossing him into a set of steel barrels. Darts Grumer is about to finish Jyo off with a deadly dart attack, but the Boonboomger team arrives.
After transforming, Darts Grumer challenges the Boonboomgers to a game of darts and selects Bun Pink to be the first to play. Mira refuses, calling the villain stupid for trying to trick her, but she falls for it once Darts Grumer toys with her emotions by saying that she probably is unsure of her aim and is just pathetic. Mira gets irritated at his teasing and throws the dart, missing the bullseye, with her penalty “prize” being a rainstorm of metal pans continuously falling on her head. Ishiro is up next, understanding what the game is now and trying to shoot Darts Grumer’s bullseye with his Boonboom Handle gun, but Darts cheats by moving, causing the bullet to miss its target. His penalty prize is “snack time”, being constantly bombarded by exploding cream pies. Taiya is the last Ranger standing, with Darts promising to undo the punishments of the others if Taiya hits the bullseye. Taiya manages to hit the target but Darts was lying and chains him up in an electric chair, getting constantly shocked by high voltage that his suit can just barely protect Taiya from being killed. Darts gloats in victory and then decides to give his foes an extra special bonus present of explosive darts. Jyo can’t bear seeing the Boonboomgers suffer, but he hears them them say they will never give up or lose to the evil dartboard, they know the road they take is dangerous but it makes it more interesting. Darts prepares to finish off the Rangers with his signature attack: the Darts Bomber, a giant energy construct of a dart that will kill the Boonboomgers if it hits.
Jyo finds the will inside him to get up and stop Darts, saying that he understands what he was lacking now, he just wanted to look the part of a hero by being cool. He continues to try and stop Darts from executing the Boonboomgers despite the beating he is taking, he remembers he is just a police officer but a real hero doesn’t do their deeds for glory, they do it to keep people safe and protect them. Despite getting blasted by exploding darts, Jyo keeps getting up and vows that the Boonboomgers will always be safe by his side. Taiya hears this and appreciates Jyo being sincere about his intentions. Genba arrives with a package for Jyo, a new type of changer made for him attached to an axe. Taiya says that Jyo should be able to use it now, with Jyo wiping the blood off his lips, getting up and transforming into the fourth Boonboomger, Bun Black.
Darts Grumer panics and tries to use the Darts Bomber attack to destroy the new Ranger and the other three all at once, but Jyo deflects the giant dart with his Axe and stands in front of the Boonboomgers to shield them. Darts is sent flying by his own attack sent right back at him, which allows Jyo time to check and see if everyone is okay. Ishiro thinks Jyo is crazy but Mira loves the idea of a police officer who protects superheroes and Taiya loves Jyo’s dedication, making it official that he is part of the team. Genba tells the four to go have fun and leaves, while Darts is outside and helped up by the Nejiretta. The four Boonboomgers do their first roll call together, adding a bit of nostalgic flair to the pose at the end, which irritates Darts who orders the Nejiretta to shoot them with their guns. After the group makes some quick work of some of the grunts, Darts tries to attack Taiya from behind, only to be foiled by Jyo who reminds the dastardly dart thrower that he will always protect them. After dragging Darts to the quarry, Jyo pushes his Axe into his foe’s belly and uses his boot wheels to hurl Darts forward. After dealing with some more Nejiretta, Jyo slices an oncoming Darts Bomber in half and charges at Darts, remembering that the monster has a weak spot on his face, deflecting three Darts Bombers with his Axe changed into a sword and sending them back at Dart’s face. He then finishes Darts off with his attack: the Bakuage Rod Drive.
Yaiyai comes and grabs the Gassholin, going into Highway Space again. Taiya gives Jyo his own mini Boonboom Car to summon Boonboom Patrol Car 1 and Ishiro and Mira want to use Boonboom Patrol Car 2 to get payback for being humiliated. Taiya calls Bun Bun to get ready as the two vehicles head out and Decotrade and Itasha take a rest and watch the race. Yaiyai doesn’t last long though as Jyo uses a virtual trap to create illusions of the PatoCars, which Yaiyai runs from and ends up in a spiked stinger trap that punctures his tires and sends him off the edge of the road. Yaiyai ejects the Gassholin and revives Darts, with the Boonboomger team deciding to try out a new combination, becoming the dual Magnum gun wielding Boonboomger Robo Police.
Darts tries to bombard them with explosive darts, but Boonboom Police under the driving control of Jyo is able to shoot them down and dodge them. Darts is eventually headbutted and tries to rapidly fling multiple darts at Boonboom Police, but Jyo uses the Bakuage Magnum: Unlimited Fire attack to destroy them all. The colliding projectiles create fireworks in the night sky and Darts is distracted by how pretty they are, allowing the team to finish the demented dartboard off with the Bakuage Magnum: Boonboom Crash finisher, which disables his ability to throw darts and the damage inflicted causes him to explode.
Back at the garage, Agent Saibu is given a report on the recent development of Jyo becoming a Boonboomger. Mira is happy not to be the newbie anymore while Ishiro says that a police officer who takes his duties a bit too seriously is another odd addition to the team. Bun Bun decides to celebrate Jyo being on the team with another Curry Party, which Agent Saibu gets excited for but has to yet again recompose herself, but she cheerfully smiles and claps her hands quietly with joy at the thought of eating more Boonboom Curry while facing away so no one sees her smiling.
