Bakuage 43: Powerful Handle (豪快なハンドル Gōkaina Handoru) is the forty-third episode of Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger. The episode is a crossover with Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger, featuring the return of Joe Gibken, as portrayed by Yuki Yamada. It also features the apparent betrayal of Ishiro Meita.

Synopsis[]

Unexpected betrayal by Ishiro! He points a gun at Taiya and tells him to disband the Boonboomgers. Just then, the legendary space pirates, the Gokaigers appear...!?

Plot[]

At the Boonboomgers' base, Mira showcases her calligraphy skills while writing signs to decorate the base for a new year party. As Taiya, Bundorio and Genba compliment her, Jyo comes in with a box full of scallops that his grandfather fished. The Boonboomgers ponder on what to eat, so Mira suggests curry as usual, but Bundorio gets an idea for a meal while looking at the scallops.

Meanwhile, Shirabe is talking with Maimi Baisu at the ISA HQ. Maimi lies to Shirabe that she didn't notice anything suspicious while investigating the upper brass of the ISA. Shirabe suggests that the documents Maimi checked might've been altered, but Maimi tells her to not think of it too much and have some faith in the ISA.

At Waruido Spindo's mansion, Grantu Risk warns his boss that Eiichiro Tokoyari might be planning something against the Hashiriyans. Spindo assures him that their collaborators on the planets they conquer always try to act against the Hashiriyans, but he'll always end up with the upper hand over them.

Back at the Boonboomgers' base, the Boonboomgers (minus Ishiro and Sakito) and Shirabe are eating a meal to celebrate the new year. Bundorio presents his new scallop curry, which he shaped to look like a treasure boat. Mira says it looks more like a pirate ship, but he tells her that it's not really different. As the Boonboomgers enjoy the curry, Sakito and Byun Diesel come in. Bundorio offers them his curry, but Sakito tells him that they'll eat later, surprising the other Boonboomgers. Taiya figures out that the cleaners have some bad news about the Big Bang Grand Prix.

The Sanseaters also celebrate the new year with the meal, wishing each other that this year they'll collect a lot of Ghassolin, impress Spindo and becomes big shots. They then prepare to exchange gifts between each other, as they do every year, but suddenly a Kurumaju - Takarabako Grumer - falls from the ceiling and steals their presents. The Sanseaters are depressed as Itasha says that she didn't create this Kurumaju.

Back at the base, Sakito and Byun-D reveal to the Boonboomgers information that they gathered from a fellow cleaner: The Hashiriyans have a tight grip over the BBG, which they use as a source of Ghassolin by fixing the races. They also reveal that Genba's father, King De Livery, has been accused for more crimes and had his sentence lengthened, likely as retribution for Disrace's death. Genba is visibly stressed upon hearing the news about his father, but he tells a worried Taiya that he'll be okay. Shirabe and Byun-D note that the Hashiriyans can bend the rules to their liking, and as a result none of the Boonboomgers' efforts to reclaim the BBG and prove Genba's father's innocence will work. Bundorio says that if they defeat Spindo himself, the Hashiriyans will collapse without him. Sakito asks Shirabe if she found out anything about the ISA, but as she didn't get any information from Maimi, she changes the subject and asks Taiya if Ishiro's investigation have bore fruit. Taiya says that he didn't hear from him for a few days. Just as he says that, Ishiro contacts him through his Boonboom Changer and alerts him over a Kurumaju on the loose, but when he hangs up the call, it's revealed that he's on the car with Eiichiro Tokoyari, who tells him that they can now proceed forward.

Takarabako Grumer goes around stealing people's favorite belongings, such as a woman's guitar, another woman's purse and even two men's designer clothes, leaving them in their underwear. As he collects the treasures and locks them in his chest head, the Sanseaters wonder if Grantu Risk was the one who made him, though Yarucar is still deflated about the Kurumaju stealing their presents. The Boonboomgers sans Ishiro arrive to fight the Kurumaju, but mistake him for a Scallop Grumer because of the scallops decorating his body. After Takarabako Grumer corrects them that he's themed after a treasure chest, the Boonboomgers transform to fight him. As they're fighting, a mysterious man in blue watches the battle from afar and recognizes the Boonboomgers.

Takarabako Grumer proves to be a tough fighter as he manages to block all of the Boonboomgers' attacks and detransforms them. He tries to find the Boonboomgers' treasure, but Ishiro arrives in front of them. To the Boonboomgers' surprise, Ishiro throws his Boonboom Changer at the Kurumaju, who locks it in his chest! The Boonboomgers ask Ishiro what the heck did he just do, but he tells them that he did that on purpose. Maimi, who watches from afar, recalls as Ishiro made a deal with Tokoyari to join the ISA's side. To prove his loyalty, Tokoyari asked him to give away his Changer to the Kurumaju who steals what people treasure the most. Tokoyari tells him that he's not a hero, but a denizen of the underworld. Spindo, who somehow sensed the betrayal from his mansion, exclaims that betrayal never gets boring.

Ishiro points a gun at the Boonboomgers, telling them that the ISA and the Hashiriyans are working together, and that there's nothing the Boonboomgers can do to stop their invasion. The Boonboomgers are shocked at Ishiro's sudden betrayal, and hopes that he's just acting up as part of a plan. Ishiro orders Taiya to disband the Boonboomgers, or else they'll be branded as enemies of the world, something that he doesn't want to happen. An enraged Sakito runs at Ishiro to attack him, but Ishiro shoots a warning shot right before his feet. Taiya, however, refuses to disband the team, telling Ishiro that they'll continue following their path of heroism no matter what, because that's what being a Boonboomger means. Ishiro walks away as Takarabako Grumer resumes his fight with the Boonboomgers and summons Nejiretta.

The Boonboomgers transform and start fighting the Nejiretta as the man in blue, Joe Gibken, pulls out his Ranger Key and Mobilates and transforms into a Gokai Blue. Just as Takarabako Grumer is about to attack the Boonboomgers, he gets shot out of nowhere by the Ranger. As the blue pirate begins fighting the Nejiretta, Bundorio and Byun-D recognize him as one of the Gokaigers, a group of space pirates whose names were once known all around the universe. During the fight, Taiya and Joe seemingly recognize each other as they fight together, though they brush it off. Joe throws his Gokai Saber into Takarabako Grumer's keyhole and rotates the saber, opening the Kurumaju's chest and freeing all of the belongings that he stole, including Ishiro's Boonboom Changer. Joe transforms the changer into a Bun Blue Ranger Key, which he uses to Gokai Change into Bun Blue. The Boonboomgers are shocked, and Takarabako Grumer summons more Nejiretta. Joe borrows Jyo and Genba's Boonboom Change Axes, and uses them in their rod modes to fight the Nejiretta. He returns the Change Axes to their owners before performing his Final Wave finisher alongside the Boonboomgers, destroying the Kurumaju.

Joe returns the Bun Blue Ranger Key, which transforms back into the Boonboom Changer, back to the Boonboomgers, so they could get Ishiro back to the team. Taiya wonders who's the Ranger who just fought alongside them, but Yarucar enlarges Takarabako Grumer to get the Sanseaters' presents back. Bundorio and Byun-D transform into Boonboomger Robo and Byunbyum Mach Robo to fight the giant Kurumaju. Joe, who's watching the battle from the background, is impressed from Mach Robo's skills, so he decides to lend him his help and inserts the Gokai Galleon Key to his Mobilates. In response, Mach Robo is Gokai-Changed into GokaiOh, to Sakito and Byun-D's surprise. After Sakito replaces the handle with his Boonboom Controller, he begins fighting the Kurumaju with his new giant robo. The two robos fight the Kurumaju before using their finishers on him and destroying him.

After the battle, Taiya goes to confront Joe and asks him why he joined their fight. Both of them detransform as Joe explains that Taiya's resolves of continuing to fight no matter what reminds him of his captain. He also gives Taiya a special necklace. He tells Taiya that a princess who likes to have her hands on her wheel asked him to deliver it to the Boonboomgers. Joe then says goodbye to Taiya and leaves.

Back at Tokoyari's car, the ISA director tells Ishiro that he's now proved that he cut ties with the Boonboomgers. Ishiro doesn't like the fact tha Tokoyari enjoys this. After asking him to leave, Tokoyari asks Maimi to keep an eye on Ishiro, since he still doesn't completely trust him. He then calls Raita Naito and tells him to continue with his plans.

At the Boonboomgers' base, Mira recognizes Nicola's pendant and remembers their adventure together. Genba thinks this is some sort of a message, but Sakito reminds the Boonboomgers that there's no time to worry about that since Ishiro just betrayed them. Mira and Genba are saddened when they remember that, and Jyo even slams his fist on the table in anger. Shirabe also worries about Ishiro framing the Boonboomgers as enemies of the world. As if things couldn't get any worse, Bundorio arrives and shows Taiya that ownership of all of his bank accounts has been transferred to Lightning Tech. Taiya figures out that Raita Naito has also betrayed him!

  • Mid-Credits PSA: The heroes encourage the viewers not to use their phones when walking especially during the New Year.

Yuki Yamada Boonboomger Jacket

The peeling is visible on the jacket.

  • For the episode, Yamada wears the exact same blue jacket he wore for Joe in Gokaiger 14 years prior. The jacket, however, had seen some visible tear and peeling since then. Though a substitute was made for production, Yamada opted to wear his original jacket instead because it felt nostalgic.
  • Ishiro does not appear transformed in this episode. Joe instead uses Bun Blue's powers via a Gokai Change.
  • Due to Ishiro's betrayal in this episode, his appearance during the first half of the ending dance sequence is covered with a bubble of Sakito and Byun Diesel.
