Bakuage 24: The Song I Want to Deliver (届けたい歌 Todoketai Uta) is the twenty-fourth episode of Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger.
Synopsis[]
The Boonboomgers came to the after-school daycare facility where Taiya used to attend. There, they learn about Taiya's first love. While they are having a good time talking about their sweet and sour memories, a new Grumer appears, and Taiya and Sakito are put to sleep by a mysterious attack...!?
Plot[]
Taiya is asleep having a dream about his old teacher Mahiro during a December long ago, she was concerned because young Taiya always plays alone but he just finds building his toy model car more interesting than playing games with the other kids. She says that there is another way for it to be even more fun, but he is woken from the dream by Bun Bun, who says that they need to hurry or they will be late for something. Taiya had promised to visit his old daycare and is greeted by one of his old teachers, who says that the children are looking forward to his visit. He gives her a basket with red wrapping and they continue to talk with her asking if he has been eating well as they enter the room and greet the children as they excitedly rush up to the Rangers and teachers.
In an alley, Cannonborg gets a call from the higher ups in the Hashiriyan syndicate, who scold him for his ineffectiveness in stopping the Boonboomgers and not gathering any Ghassolin for them, all the while the Sanseater trio are snickering and laughing about it. Cannonborg says he understands and he will try harder next time. Cannonborg asks Sanseaters why should be so difficult to gather Ghassolin, to which Decotorade and Itasha play dumb saying they don’t know to avoid being punished but Yaiyai blurts out that it is a problem with the chain of command. The two try to tell Yaiyai to keep quiet but that remark draws Cannonborg’s ire and he blames them for his poor performance, summoning a red bolt of lightning from his puppet to painfully zap them. He then stresses about the fact his bosses will not tolerate his blunders and he has no more room for failure. Cannonborg then stumbles upon a blue guitar, placing his Ignition Key into it to transform it into the Akogi Grumer.
Back at the daycare, each of the Rangers plays with the kids except for Ishiro who pleads Taiya for help as he becomes overwhelmed by the enthusiastic group of kids who want to play with him. Mira helps some kids with their math homework while Jyo runs around outside in the playground trying not to get tagged until he throws his back out.
Genba shows off some magic tricks to the children and Mira while Sakito is outside making giant bubbles, though Byundi comments to Bun Bun that it took three servings of his friend’s curry just to convince Sakito to come along with them. Bun Bun says despite that it looks Sakito is having the most fun out of all of them. Both of them are called by a teacher if they are ready yet and both of them say no as they hide in the bush they were standing nearby as the two prepare to play hide and seek with the kids.
Later, everyone gathers around to sing a song with Taiya, who is playing on his guitar. Mira is surprised Taiya can play an instrument, with Bun Bun saying that he does and practices by playing that particular song a lot. The older teacher says that song has a special meaning to Taiya as Miss Mahiro used to sing it to him, she was Taiya’s crush as a boy and even started learning to play the guitar because of her. Byundi wants more details for some reason, which Sakito explains to Ishiro is because Byundi has been making him read romance novels that he makes every night and has become obsessed with romance. The teacher continues, saying that Taiya used to be very shy and bashful but bonding with Mahiro made him open up more with others.
Another flashback occurs, with Taiya visiting the daycare and taking guitar lessons with Mahiro, who encouraged him to play and showed him which chords to use when playing her song. Even after he left the daycare, he would always make time to visit Mahiro. Taiya finished his song and wonders what they were talking about, with his teammates doing some friendly teasing to him about his crush but are excited to meet the woman who stole Taiya’s heart. Taiya says that Mahiro isn’t here anymore and she “moved away”, with Ishiro telling everyone to take the kids outside to play some more and gives Taiya some space for a bit.
As everyone goes on to the playground, Akogi appears and puts several fleeing civilians to sleep with his sinister melodies. Sakito and Taiya shield the kids to give them time to escape with the rest of the team escorting them inside, but Akogi strums up another stream of sleep sound waves and the two jump in front of them to protect the children and go into a deep sleep. Sakito dreams about the day he left Earth as a kid but is suddenly stopped from leaving by his best friend Kakeru. The rest of the team gathers around the two and tries to wake them up with Mira telling Bun Bun to keep going and get the kids inside. Taiya is dreaming about being in the daycare again as a child with Mahiro, asking him what he wants to do today, to which he says he wants to make a model car with her while the adult conscious part of Taiya is shocked to see her again.
Back in the real world, Akogi tries to put the remaining Rangers to sleep by throwing sound infused guitar picks, Ishiro transforms into Bun Blue and uses his sharpshooter skills to destroy them, telling the others that he will buy them some time to figure out how to wake up Taiya and Sakito. Mira wonders how in the world are they going to do that, with Genba showing up with a wagon full of items he procured to use to wake them. They move them to a park bench and use loud instruments, banging pots and pans and a megaphone to no avail, with the tired group stumped on what they should do next. They then are horrified to see Ghassolin coming out of Taiya and Sakito as they dream, which the Trio observes from afar and praise Akogi’s efforts.
Cannonborg gloats in his alleyway that draining away human bio-energy from sleep and converting it into Ghassolin is his most brilliant idea and even better is that no one can wake the victims up from the outside, potentially giving him unlimited energy in their eternal slumber.
Inside Sakito’s dream, Kakeru tries to convince him to stay on Earth with him forever and space has nothing to offer Sakito since he will never change. Sakito then sees through the illusion and says he doesn’t regret the choices he’s made, breaking free from the dream and waking up. He explains to the others that the dream traps a person in a moment from their past, marching towards Akogi as using the likeness of his friend for a trap has angered him severely and he changes into Bun Violet to help Ishiro. After a few coordinated attacks, he instructs Ishiro to get Taiya somewhere else and find something from his past that will pull him out of the dream, he will stay behind and keep Akogi busy. Akogi summons some Nejiretta to back him up and surround Sakito, who mutters that this help will cost the Boonboomgers later.
The others have carried Taiya into the classroom, who is starting to struggle breathing as he becomes more upset about his dream and calling out for Mahiro and radiating out more Ghassolin. Ishiro hears him talking in his sleep and starts thinking about what to do.
The illusion Mahiro asks Taiya if he likes her, which he says yes he does, the illusion Mahiro then gets more sinister by taking his hands and saying that she will be all that he will ever need, hugging him and saying that they will stay together forever. Taiya agrees to this, completely unaware of the danger he is in. His teammates outside are starting to worry, with Genba saying that they can only hope Taiya can wake up on his own but Jyo can’t accept that and asks if there’s anything else that they can do. Ishiro thinks and looks around the room, then sees the lyrics for the song that Taiya was singing earlier on the dry erase board. He suggests that they all try to sing the song to help Taiya wake up, since it is connected to Mahiro and hearing it will help him realize he is in an illusion. Bun Bun asks the kids to help them wake Taiya up by singing along with them.
As they all sing, Taiya starts to hear them from his dream and snaps out of it, walking away from the fake Mahiro. He remembers what the real one said to him all those years ago from his dreams from earlier: that when you are with people who shine a different color than you and join with them, you make the world more colorful and bright and more fun to be in. The fake Mahiro tries to grab Taiya, but he thanks the real Mahiro for showing him the way with her teachings and tearfully reassured her that he has a lot more fun now in the present. The fake Mahiro lets go of him and Taiya wakes up, apologizing to his team for making them worry and is helped up by Bun Bun, he thanks everyone for the song that pulled him back with the kids cheering.
Taiya says that he is cranked up and the team goes outside to engage Akogi. Sakito is getting tired out and almost gets hit by Akogi’s picks, but they are blasted by the team’s guns. Sakito is happy but also annoyed that Taiya “finally dragged his butt out of bed” and most of the team gets to work on clearing out the grunts while Sakito and Taiya fight Akogi. The evil acoustic guitar tries to execute a new melody attack, but Taiya changes into 119 and he and Sakito clear the evil sounds with Gatling arrows and Hose Impact attacks, which sends Akogi flying into a fountain and then gets decimated by the Zoonzoom Overdrive.
Yaiyai enlarges Akogi with the Highway Beam and the team form Boonboomger Robo, but Akogi uses Bun Bun’s mindfulness of traffic safety against him by generating illusions of red traffic lights to halt his progress and the traffic lights become lasers that hit Bun Bun. Taiya bypasses the issue by summoning Leo Rescue, as the law states that emergency rescue vehicles are allowed to cross through red lights to perform their duties, ramming Akogi as he races towards Bun Bun. The team forms Boonboomger Robo 119 and quickly tunes out the malicious melody maker with the Bakuage Rescue: Zoonzoom Finish.
The Rangers say goodbye to the kids as their time with them ends, but Mira hears a guitar outside. She finds Taiya playing and singing his Rainbow song in the spot where he and Mahiro used to practice and can’t help but join in along with Jyo, Genba and Ishiro. Soon Sakito, Bun Bun and Byundi join in and everyone sings in unison, with Taiya having a somewhat bittersweet smile on his face.
The episode ends with an image of what was in the basket placed on a windowsill, a colorful bouquet of roses, implying that Mahiro had passed away some time ago and Taiya had trouble moving on, something that he now can do with the help of his friends and honoring her memory by playing her song.
