Bakuage 22: Lion's Flaming Fury (炎の獅子奮迅 Honō no Shishi Runjin) is the twenty-second episode of Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger. It features the debut of Boonboom Leo Rescue, Boonboom Shobosha, and Boonboom Leon.

Synopsis[]

Summer! Camping! Tent Grumer!? Tent Grumer interferes with children who are enjoying camping in the mountains. Then, Taiya and the others challenge the newly born "Boonboom Leon" to a battle!

Plot[]

At Lightning Tech, Raita Naito has called Taiya again for a favor, overjoyed to know that he is Bun Red. Taiya says he really wasn’t trying to keep it a secret from Raita, but the latter is fine with it as the Boonboomgers are protecting Earth’s future. Raita then gets down to business, he wants to hire Taiya to deliver fireworks to his nephew Senji’s campground as Bun Red so he can have happy memories of summer. Wanting to see Senji’s smile, Taiya accepts the request.

At the campsite, the kids are gathering around with their teacher to prepare their lunch, only to have the Sanseater Trio crash their camping activities and Itasha uses her Ignition Key on a tent to create the Tent Grumer. Tent scares the campers and then entraps them in individual tents with only Senji and his teacher managing to avoid the tent trap. Tent absorbs the terror of the trapped children to create Ghassolin and delights in mocking the kids and their predicament.

Decotorade thinks that this was a brilliant plan to gather Ghassolin out in the sticks since the Boonboomgers are in the city and will be unaware of their activities, so they can terrify as many humans as they want to collect unlimited amounts of Ghassolin. Senji’s teacher tells Senji to run away and get help, with Tent trying to stop them by capturing the teacher and seemingly going after Senji.…after letting him get ahead from his maniacal laughter and monologue about how hopeless it is to resist him much to the chagrin of the Trio.

Back at the garage, Jyo says good morning to his team, who are gathered around the computer to watch Ishiro design the software for a new BoonBoom Car. Ishiro and Bun Bun are designing this new mecha to complement Taiya’s new 119 form. Jyo tries to put in a request for his own upgrade, having a fantasy about being Bun Black 110, with tactical armor, guns and a riot shield. Ishiro says that if anyone gets an upgrade after Taiya it should be him as Bun Blue 007, with a James Bond fantasy of his Ranger suit in a tuxedo. Genba enters the garage with the item he procured at Ishiro’s request, an advanced A.I. control chip that was created based on the data accumulated from working on Safari and Marine with an updated algorithm installed. Bun Bun thanks Genba for his services, while Ishiro takes the chip and continues working on the software. Jyo still wonders whether he will get his 110 upgrade, which Bun Bun only jokes about.

Out in the woods, Senji is running for his life as Nejiretta catch up to him when he trips. Sakito and Byundi are out camping, with the former boiling water for ramen while Byundi tries fishing, asking Sakito when they are going to go house hunting. Sakito says that sleeping outside isn’t so bad especially when camping is involved. He then hears Senji’s cry for help and quickly goes to his location to knock around the grunts and tells Senji to run, transforming into Bun Violet. Senji is surprised to see a real Boonboomger.

Taiya arrives at a parking area for the nature trails and gets out of his car, getting the package of fireworks out only to see Sakito fighting Nejiretta, he races towards Senji only to be confronted by Tent Grumer. Tent Grumer tries to trap the two in a tent, but Sakito pushes them out of the way and gets himself trapped by the tent. Taiya wants to help him, but Byundi says he will try to save Sakito so Taiya and Senji can run to somewhere safe. Taiya thanks Byundi and runs, with the latter trying to rush to Sakito only to get captured in a tent trap right next to him.

Taiya tries to get to his car, but stops Senji when he sees Itasha taking pictures of Decotorade and Yaiyai posing next to the Boonboon Supercar and guarding it from anyone trying to take it. Taiya has no choice but to walk out of the forest since he has to keep Senji safe from harm by going over the mountain to lose the enemies pursuing them. Itasha is too busy taking selfies on her phone next to Taiya’s car to notice their enemies were just a few yards away from them in plain sight.

Taiya contacts Ishiro to alert the team to the activity of the Hashiriyans, with the team ready to head to Taiya’s location, but not before Bun Bun asks Ishiro to deliver the new mini BoonBoom Car to Taiya. He will finish tuning the actual vehicle in the garage to get it ready for deployment, which Ishiro agrees to.

Back in the woods, Taiya walks with Senji, who asks what Taiya is doing out here anyways. Taiya shows Senji the gift of fireworks that his uncle wanted to be brought to his nephew. Senji is grateful but says that seems like a lot of trouble coming all the way here just for that, but Taiya says that adults just love to see children happy and he will understand that when he becomes one someday.

Meanwhile, the Trio are stealing food from the campsite and preparing to cook it until Cannonborg arrives. They panic and Decotorade says that they sent Tent Grumer to search for Bun Red so he doesn’t alert the other Rangers. Cannonborg has a better idea of bringing Bun Red to them using the captured campers as bait for a trap.

After an undetermined amount of time walking, Taiya and Senji make it out of the forest to see the city limits. Senji sees the captured campers being violently assaulted by Nejiretta at a factory warehouse. Cannonborg uses his puppet as a megaphone to urge Bun Red to come out of hiding, threatening to further harm the humans he has taken hostage if he doesn’t show up. Taiya gives Senji his fireworks and tells him to wait here until he gets back as he runs to rescue the hostages.

Taiya confronts Tent at the factory and Sakito somehow managed to free himself from his tent prison to assist him. The two Rangers transform and Tent shoots hot charcoal from his face at them, which the Rangers dodge. Taiya and Sakito fight at a brisk pace and avoid getting into another tent trap, but Tent then uses Excitetong to shoot fireballs and eventually hits Sakito, who goes down from getting burned. Tent tries to finish off Taiya, barraging him with charcoal and deploying a tent trap, but Sakito recovers and shoots arrows to destroy the tent and then steers the arrows towards Tent Grumer knocking him on his back. Sakito says that Taiya owes him for the save after wincing in pain, which Taiya thanks him for and then changes into his 119 form.

Tent tries to use his coals to do a flamethrower attack, but Taiya slides under the attack and shoots him point blank with the Shokablaster, sending the Grumer flying backwards. Taira then boosts to get behind his target, generating a tire to give Tent a hard kick in the back to send him flying forward and falling onto the ground. He effortlessly dodges Tent’s punches and kicks him to the ground again, enraging the crooked camper to set himself on fire and try to ram Taiya. He is repelled by Taiya’s Hose Impact, using his boot wheels to keep him stabilized from the recoil and Tent is sent flying into the air only to be hit by the Zoonzoom Overdrive at the right time before he hits the ground. Tent is destroyed and then revived by Yaiyai’s Highway Beam and Cannonborg adds another nasty surprise with his latest invention, Big Nejiscrews, specially designed screws that enlarge the Nejiretta to fight the Boonboomger’s mechas.

Cannonborg then decides to “liven up the camping experience” by creating a structure of gas pipes around a wrecked building and teleports the hostages inside, with Tent declaring that he will “make a campfire” by igniting the gas emitting from the pipes. This sets the structure ablaze and the hostages are at risk of burning to death as the villains dance merrily dance around the “campfire”. Taiya worries about the hostages until his team shows up and Ishiro gives him the BoonBoom Leo Rescue Car to summon his new mecha that the team built for him. Bun Bun finishes his work on the vehicle and immediately deploys it to Taiya, who uses the high pressure hose to destroy the Nejiretta and uses the BoonBoom Sonoshi docked into the fire ladder to reach the hostages and puts out some of the flames to clear a path. Tent tries to stop Taiya by attempting to knock the building over but he, the kids and their teacher escape before he flattens the structure. Taiya drops them off, but can’t reach Tent because of the debris blocking his path. Bun Bun says that is not a problem for Leo Rescue’s true function, uploading a transformation program that allows Leo Rescue to change from a fire engine into a Lion robot called Boomboom Leon.

Leon climbs up the hill of debris and jumps through Tent’s flaming Campfire Rings, shooting the Grumer with its tail cannons and then furiously pouncing and scratching Tent’s face followed by further shots from his cannons. The rest of the team decide to step in to help, combining their mecha with Leon to become Armored Leon and quickly end the terrible tent’s terror once and for all with the Bakuage Scramble finisher. The kids reunite with Senji and celebrate Leon’s victory, amazed how cool the robot is and shout their thank to Taiya for saving them, with the hero relieved that everyone is alright. Sakito and Byundi are happy to see kids smiling and not screaming in fear, though Sakito tries to put on a tough act from his burns and insists he can walk home fine on his own. Byundi can see right through his act and teases him about it, but Sakito just tells him to shut up.

Back at the garage, Bun Bun has made a special curry, BoonBoom Curry 119, a mildly spicy curry with fried chicken on top. He then sees that everyone is looking at Leon who is tired after his first outing and is about to take a nap. Taiya calls Mr. Naito, who thanks him for successfully making the delivery and making his nephew Senji the happiest he has ever been with digital pictures sent to him of his nephew having fun at camp. Taiya says that Boonboom Leon deserves most of the credit, seeing the large cat bot yawning and drifting off to sleep.

    • The scene for how his form looks parodies James Bond's gun barrel sequence, an iconic staple in the franchise.
