Bakuage 21: Flaming Delivery (炎の届け物 Honō no Todoke-mono) is the twenty-first episode of Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger. It features the debut of the Zoonzoom Shokablaster and Bun Red 119.
Synopsis[]
A series of unexplained fires have been burning down the town, and the people seem to be in trouble. Genba, who has become a "detective", deduces the cause...!? Eventually, the culprit of the fires is discovered, and Taiya changes into his new form, "Bun Red 119," and takes a stand against him!
Plot[]
At Hando Manor, Mira and Bun Bun are downstairs cleaning and dusting a storage basement along with the rest of the house. Ishiro explains to Mira when she complains about the many rooms she has to clean that Taiya spends most of his time at home in the basement garage so dust gathers in the various other rooms. Bun Bun accidentally knocks over a box while dusting, which contains Taiya’s childhood drawings, one of which is a fantasy of him as a firefighter.
At an alley, the Sanseater Trio sit fanning themselves and complain about the muggy Japanese summer heat until Yaiyai overheats and his exhaust spews flames. Itasha hot potatoes him over to Decotorade, who gets burned a couple times and falls over knocking a fire extinguisher out of an abandoned storage locker when he hits his head on it. Curious about the object, Itasha thinks because it is bright red it will burn hot and puts her Ignition Key into it, transforming it into the Shokaki Grumer.
Meanwhile at ISA HQ, Agent Saibu has called Jyo in for some iced coffee and to speak with him about a possible case that the Boonboomgers could work on, mysterious fires are breaking out around the city but they stop before they get too dangerous and no trace of where the fires started could be found. She suspects that the Hashiriyans could be involved, but wants Jyo to use his investigative skills as a police officer first to confirm this before assigning the Rangers to the case and give a report on his findings. Jyo acknowledges her orders and gets to work.
Back at the garage, Taiya is working on the BoonBoom Cars until Bun Bun runs in and asks him what his dream really is, not the dream he shares with the him about the Big Bang Grand Prix. Bun Bun wants Taiya to open up about it since they are friends and just say what his real dream is, but he gets a bit too excited and accidentally damages the monitors on the maintenance control panel, which Bun Bun blames on Taiya for not being honest with him and walks off in a huff.
Jyo is out on patrol but is stumped on how exactly he is going to prove that a Hashiriyan is the arsonist. Genba just happens to be nearby and overheard Jyo’s frustration, offering to help him as “The Candy Detective” and wearing an appropriate costume. Jyo says that doesn’t matter as he still recognizes him but Genba is fully in character and denies that he is Genba. The Candy Detective says that they should investigate a crime scene and “glaze it over” to find clues, which Jyo corrects him by saying that he meant “glancing over”.
The two begin their investigation at an office, asking a woman who was a witness to recount the events that led to the fire. She was going over the financial records of her company, which was in the red for the quarter and suddenly she saw a fire behind her and panicked. The Candy Detective understands the situation, thanks the office worker for her cooperation and gives her a lollipop before leaving. Jyo is confused as to what his partner has figured out and goes after him.
They next ask a pet owner about his incident with fire and he says that his dog was starting to chew some leather shoes and he scolded the dog saying he would not get any treats if he did not stop and then a fire broke out.
A college student said that a fire broke out in her apartment after she said that living on her own was a “trial by fire” after doing chores. As they walk down by the river, Jyo asks Genba how long he is going to interview people, only to be corrected again that he is the Candy Detective and that he may have enough pieces of the puzzle to solve the case. They confirm that the Hashiriyans might be behind the arson attacks when they see the Sanseaters dressed up as firefighters crossing a bridge and decide to tail them to see what they are up to.
On a rooftop, Bun Bun is sulking about his mistakes from earlier and worries that Taiya is now mad at him. Sakito and Byundi walk onto the roof and upon seeing Bun Bun, figure out he had “a fight with Red” and laughing at how chaotic that sounds. After Bun Bun explains why he feels down, he admits that despite being friends with Taiya, he knows very little about him. Sakito finds that ridiculous, but Bun Bun says that he really is friends with Taiya and wants to get to know him better and make Taiya’s dreams come true. Sakito is a bit envious of what Taiya has while Byundi doesn’t see a problem, if Bun Bun really is Taiya’s friend then he has the means to make those dreams a reality. Realizing what Byundi means, Bun Bun gets cranked up and runs back to the garage while Sakito is still a bit envious of how simple things are for the others.
Meanwhile, The Trio ring the doorbell of a kind old lady, who claim to her that they are from the Fire Department and as part of Fire Prevention Week they going around and giving away free fire extinguishers to aid the neighborhood community in giving them the means to prevent fires. The old lady graciously accepts the gift and the Trio politely say goodbye and thank her for her cooperation and to stay safe. Once the door closes, the Trio run, looking both ways before crossing the street and then make a break for it once it is safe to cross.
Jyo thinks that they should go after them, but the Candy Detective says that preventing another arson should come first, wanting to check the old lady’s apartment. The old lady is thinking about making dinner when the fire extinguisher shakes and a blinking light indicating a timer activates. The boys burst into the apartment and Jyo quickly grabs the extinguisher and gets on the ground, pointing the nozzle away from anything flammable as it activates, releasing a stream of flames until it stops, comically charring himself and getting an afro perm from the heat. The Candy Detective now had his theory proven, the extinguishers activate and create a fire upon anyone speaking about something related to flames or heat, which triggers them to go off. The old lady says that she did mention wanting to fry some marlin for dinner.
Jyo confiscates the flaming extinguishers from the apartment complex and The Candy Detective says that they need to scour the city and collect the rest of the evil extinguishers before something really bad happens, calling up Mira to help, who tells citizens that the extinguishers have been recalled and are defective.
Those that they have not collected yet have gone off, with the terrified screams of people creating Ghassolin that Taiya sees flying overhead in the sky, alerting him to the Hashiriyans and he races to where they are.
Bun Bun finds the garage is quiet as everyone else is out, overhearing the radio comms as Mira reports that she has finished collecting the extinguishers and Taiya says in that case the team needs to rendezvous to where the Ghassolin is converging. Knowing everyone is working hard to stop the villains, Bun Bun says he needs to pitch in too, confident he can because of the bonds he made with Taiya and the others as he drafts up a schematic of a gun based off of a fire extinguisher on the computer. Bun Bun is determined to make Taiya’s childhood dreams come true.
Somewhere outside of the city, Shokaki Grumer is absorbing Ghassolin with the Trio cheering him on and Decotorade says that giving away fake extinguishers from door to door was totally worth the effort given how much Ghassolin they have collected. Taiya arrives and his teammates soon after, The Candy Detective says that he solved their method of arson while Jyo and Mira show the villains that they collected all the phony fire extinguishers. The team transforms and does a quick roll call, while Shokaki summons some Nejiretta to try and stop the Rangers. The grunts are unable to do that task so Shokaki steps in and uses his flames to push the team back. Jyo uses his back tires as a shield to block a stream of flames from hitting the others but his shield breaks and he gets burned a little from the attack. Shokaki then creates a ring of fire that traps the heroes and the heat is more than the BoonBoom Suits can withstand, with Ishiro saying that the suits can’t hold out much longer at this rate. Decotorade and Itasha are both watching from a distance, giddy in anticipation that today they might actually win for a change and cheering for Shokaki.
Taiya worries that if the team doesn’t do something soon they’ll be barbecued. Fortunately, Sakito and Byundi arrive with Bun Bun, who is here to ”deliver Taiya’s dream to him”, tossing a red steel briefcase to him. Taiya opens it to find a new gun inside called the Zoonzoom Shoukablaster, which Bun Bun says he made for him to make his dream a reality. Taiya thinks for a minute what Bun Bun meant saying that and remembers his crayon drawing from his childhood, then with determination he activates the Shoukablaster to change into Bun Red 119, extinguishing the surrounding flames during his transformation. Jyo and Mira are amazed that Taiya can change forms, while Bun Bun is excited to see his latest creation works perfectly.
Shokaki tries to roast Bun Red 119 with his flames but gets put out by Taiya’s Hose Impact attack, but he is undeterred by this and tries to blast Taiya with fireballs. The firefighting Red sharpshoots the volleys of flames, putting them out and then uses the pressure stream of his Shoukablaster to shoot a wave of extinguisher foam to knock Shokaki off balance. Taiya then powers up the Shoukablaster, running and dodging fireballs and leaping on top of Shokaki to fire his finisher at point blank range: the Zoonzoom Overdrive. The blast of the gun sends Taiya shooting upwards like a rocket and then landing safely away from Shokaki’s explosion.
Yaiyai fires the Highway Beam, reviving and enlarging Shokaki, Taiya powers down his 119 form and calls for the BoonBoom Cars, with the team selecting Marine and Safari while Sakito and Byundi head into battle. The Rangers form Boonboomger Robo Monster and Byunbyum Mach Robo, with Bun Bun struggling to fight Shokaki and gets trapped in the flames that Byundi easily avoided with his wings. Sakito decides to help, with Byundi tossing Bun Bun his wings, which creates the new combination Wing Boonboomger Robo Monster to go airborne. The team ends the fiendish fire extinguisher with a high speed spin Bakuage Finish.
Unsurprised by being beaten again, the Trio treat it as just another work day, thanking the Boonboomgers for their efforts and each other before going home and calling it a day.
Later at the garage, Bun Bun apologizes to Taiya about damaging the monitors, but Taiya is not upset about it and thanks him for making his childhood dream come true today. Bun Bun is so overjoyed to hear this that he hugs Taiya a little too hard, who tries his best to politely get him to stop. Jyo and the others are looking at Taiya’s childhood drawings and he notices that not all of them are about being a firefighter, with one particular drawing showing Taiya riding a lion. Mira says Taiya had a lot of dreams as a kid, which Ishiro says sounds just like Taiya now.
The Candy Detective closes the episode out breaking the fourth wall by telling the viewers that he had deduced that with the help of friends, dreams can come true someday.
