Bakuage 20: Yesterday Once More (イエスタデイ 椀ス モア Iesutadei Wansu Moa) is the twentieth episode of Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger.
Synopsis[]
Mira's ex-boyfriend Norio unexpectedly reappears! And he is with the Hashiriyan for some reason...!? Norio's "Wonderful Revenge Drama" begins in order to get his beloved Mira back from the Boonboomgers...
Plot[]
Sakito places a sign on Byundi, hoping to advertise their cleaning services to get some income. They walk around town with their sign and flag, shouting out the details of their business to potential customers as Ishiro hides and observes them from the entrance to a bathhouse. He is annoyed how obnoxious they are being and wonders what they are doing, waits for them to pass by and makes a break for it so they don’t see him.
As dusk falls, Mira’s old boyfriend Norio is in a pathetic state at a restaurant, crying and wondering what he did wrong for Mira to reject him. Surprisingly, Decotrade serves him some complimentary food and tries to cheer him up. Norio says that he and Mira were going to run away together to New York City, but she suddenly wanted to leave him to do something else. Itasha thinks Mira is a horrible girlfriend and Yaiyai says that maybe she just wasn’t into Norio, which angers Norio who believes that these Boonboomgers she went along with are shady individuals who tricked her into joining them and took her from him. The Trio are surprised that he mentioned the Boonboomgers as Norio cries again about Mira, debating whether or not to exploit Norio, but Cannonborg appears to make the decision for them as he tells Norio that he should steal back his girlfriend from the Boonboomgers. He offers his services to assist in the endeavor, placing his Ignition Key in the soup bowl and upsetting Itasha again for taking her job. The bowl becomes the Owan Grumer and Cannonborg gives Norio his latest invention, the Owan Wheel, a steering wheel device that allows humans to control the Kuramaju, which also drains Ghassolin from Norio and causes him to become more evil upon holding it.
Norio tests the device, steering Owan to spin left and then right. Satisfied, he promises to get Mira back and help Cannonborg gather more Ghassolin.
At the garage the following afternoon, Mira collapses on the couch from exhaustion because of all the shifts of her part time jobs she had to work yesterday and today, too tired to even move. Bun Bun offers her some curry, but she is so stiff that she just lies on the couch and says she will have it later. She tells Genba when he checks on her that she is done moving around for today, only to get a call from one of her employers who tells Mira that he threw his back out and needs her to cover for him and she perks right back up and agrees to help. Genba commented that taking multiple shifts for a day is surely tiring, with Mira replying that someone had to do it while eating her curry. Ishiro snarkily remarked that Mira is just letting her good nature be taken for granted, with Taiya agreeing with him. Suddenly, the Boonboomgers received a report from Jyo that a Hashiriyan appeared.
Owan Grumer starts attacking civilians to provoke Boonboomgers to come out, and to bring Mira alongside them, much to Jyo’s confusion. When the rest of the Boonboomgers appear, Owan Grumer is quick to notice Mira, much to her confusion. Mira had no clue to the Grumer’s motives, so she decides to confront the Grumer and transforms alongside her team mates.
After seeing the Boonboomgers doing another nostalgic roll call, Norio activates the Owan Wheel and orders Owan Grumer to capture Mira. Owan obeys and points at Mira, who is still confused as to why the monster knows her, only to get trapped in a giant bowl that gets shrunken down and taken by Owan. Mira is too relaxed to try to escape, as the miso soup broth that is inside the bowl feels like being in a hot spring. The boys try to rescue her from Owan by shooting the sinister soup bowl, but he turns around and uses his hard ceramic shell to negate the effect of the attack.
Norio then orders Owan to destroy the Boonboomgers now that Mira is within his grasp, Owan calls forth some Neziretta to aid him and Norio steers Owan to engage in combat. The Trio cheer on the jealous boyfriend to rid them of their enemies, until Yaiyai realizes that if Norio succeeds in eliminating the Boonboomgers, they will be out of a job.
During the battle, Taiya notices the antenna on Owan and splits from the group to search for who is controlling him. Genba tries to get Mira back while Taiya is working on his plan, which proves difficult and he almost gets trapped in a bowl too if not for Ishiro’s quick shooting stopping Owan and then shooting the bowl containing Mira off Owan’s shoulder. Jyo catches it and despite burning his fingers at first, he tries to pry the lid off to free Mira, but it won’t budge and Owan kicks away the bowl to retrieve it. Ishiro says that the heat of the miso inside the bowl and the ambient temperature creates a pressure variable that makes the lid hard to remove, which makes Jyo think of the dinner bowls at fancy inns he visited that have the same problem.
Norio shouts at Owan to quit screwing around and defeat the Rangers already, trying to steer him only to be interrupted by Sakito, who figured out what is going on. Norio tries to run but Sakito uses his super speed to block his way with the intention of attacking him, but Taiya stops Sakito and recognizes Norio from way back. Norio tries to ram Taiya like a bull but misses, blaming him for Mira leaving him by tricking her into joining the Boonboomgers because she is so easily influenced by others. She never would have left him if it wasn’t for Taiya, flashing back to when the two were together, working on decorations for a baby shower and a date at a fancy restaurant, where he surprised her with the news he had finally got a transfer to New York City that he requested from his job. He thought it would be fine, making the decision for her that they will go together and then proposes to Mira, who does not give a response.
Norio continues to blame Taiya, believing that Mira is weak and can’t handle being a Boonboomger, but Taiya says taking the wheel away from others leaves Norio’s unattended. Sakito is annoyed, knowing another goodie two shoes lecturing is coming. Norio screams for Taiya to shut up and tries to hit him in the face with his Owan Wheel, only to be restrained and left waggling the wheel and making Owan go out of control. Mira is snapped out of her relaxed state from being spun around and furiously begins punching and kicking the bowl demanding to be let out, with the force of impact causing Owan’s shoulder and right arm to move around uncontrollably. Taiya shows Norio this, saying that is the Mira he knows, but Norio will not accept that, saying he just wants her back and she should stop resisting. His rage creates more Gassholin which overloads the Owan Wheel and causes it to explode when it tries to absorb it. The Trio are disappointed, thinking that Norio was useless after all and Owan’s antenna explodes, causing him to short circuit while Mira manipulates his arm trying to pry open the bowl. Cannonborg is furious, he had hoped to gain more refined Gassholin from a single Earthling with his experiment but all this resulted in was another failure, leaving the restaurant with the owner finally stumbling out of the closet the Hashiryans locked him in.
Owan is completely out of control, shooting lasers from his eyes at his former master, which Sakito deflects right back at him with an energy shield generated by the Boonboom Controller. He then chastises Norio for his selfish behavior, saying he tried to take the wheel away from Mira and in turn the Hashiriyans used him, asking how it felt to not be in control. Norio just hangs his head in shame, so Sakito decides to be nice and help “clean up” since Norio seems sorry for what he’s done. Sakito changes into Bun Violet and after a few strikes, shoots Owan with his Gatling crossbow to break the bowl off of Owan’s shoulder.
Ishiro grabs the bowl and breaks the fourth wall, telling the viewer that the best way to open a miso bowl when it is stuck is to apply pressure to the sides to release air, depressurizing the lid, which will then allow one to lift the lid off the bowl. He does this to the bowl and Mira is freed, which is a relief to everyone, but Mira is furious and is set on revenge, racing towards Owan and doing a flying kick that sandwiched him between her rotating boot wheels for maximum damage. Sakito tries to flirt and compliment Mira for that amazing attack but gets shoved aside by the peeved Pink who then draws her weapon and begins violently thrashing Owen with her blade. Norio is surprised by this side of Mira, as he never saw her like that before. Taiya says she is the team’s best driver and no matter what happens, once she takes the wheel of her own destiny, she will never let go. Meanwhile, Mira continues her curbstomp of Owan with a downward boot wheel kick and then chases the now terrified monster to continue the fight.
Norio suddenly remembers that during the baby shower decorating, he complained that they would not be able to get done in time and they should reduce the number of decorations for the shower, but Mira was laser focused on the task at hand and said that she promised that they could finish and she will do it. Norio realizes that he was the only one who thought Mira could not handle things on her own as he watches her fight.
Owan is weakened and dizzy from the absolute beating he took, but Sakito tries to steal away Mira’s victory by attempting to finish off Owan Grumer. Mira has absolutely none of it, grabbing Sakito before he could charge up his crossbow and then executes her Boonboom Twist Drive finisher, although Sakito still manages to pull off his Byunbyum Arrow Drive, with the two attacks connecting and destroying Owan Grumer. Mira finally calms down after everyone else cheers for her victory, but Yaiyai enlarges Owan as Decotrade and Itasha make puns about bowls. Fired up again, Mira summons Bun Bun and plans on using Builder to smash Owan to pieces and he should be prepared to be “dished out more punishment”, taking charge of the team in her fury.
The team forms Boonbomger Robo Builder while Sakito changes Byundi into ByunByum Robo Mach. Sakito tries to shoot Owan with the Bakuage Charger, but his hard ceramic shell once again negates projectile attacks. The Robo duo hit as hard as they can but Owan is still sturdy enough to withstand their attacks. Owan summons a giant bowl in an effort to trap the pair, but Mira prevents the lid from closing with the Bakuage Hammer and Byundi and Sakito blast the lid to pieces while Bun Bun smashes the bowl. Owan panics but tries throwing more bowls, which get swatted away and Bun Bun piloted by a really ticked off Mira creates a ground shockwave with the Bakuage Hammer to weaken Owan enough for a dual finisher of the Byunbyum Finish and the Bakuage Hammer: Boonboom Crash to crack the crooked chinaware once and for all. Mira celebrates another win for her with her team as the two Robos fist bump in victory.
As the sun sets, Norio is dropped off by Taiya at Narita Airport to go back to New York. Taiya asks Norio if he is sure he doesn’t want to see Mira. Norio says it is fine, Mira is a sweetheart and easily influenced but knows once she makes her mind up there is no stopping her. Norio admits that trait is what he loved most about her, now coming to terms with the end of their relationship as he goes into the airport to board his flight.
Elsewhere, Mira is working at her florist job and hands a customer a bouquet. The episode ends on a bittersweet moment as Mira is excited that her shift is almost over and unaware that Norio is flying overhead in his plane heading for America.
