Synopsis[]

On Tanabata, everyone is having fun, but only Boonboom remembers his bad past with the word "Milky Way". Then, a new Grumer appears, and Taiya is in the biggest trouble ever...!?

Plot[]

The summer holiday of Tanabata is in full swing as the city has fliers for a fair and bamboo decorations and wish talismans are everywhere. Happy people are walking around looking at the festive atmosphere…except for Agent Saibu who laments that her affection for Bun Bun is stuck in a professional relationship because she only sees him while working. She compares it to the tragic romance of Orihime and Hikoboshi, but hopes that they can have lunch together one day. But she snaps herself out of her lovey dovey mood as she knows that as an ISA agent if she openly fraternizes with an alien she would cause panic with the public.

Some children pass by her excited to see a robot, which she sees is Byundi, who is interacting with kids and says he is not a robot while Sakito introduces his partner to the kids. Shirabe panics upon seeing the alien interacting with humans and revealing that he was the giant robot from earlier on the news. Agent Saibu scolds the two as Earthlings and aliens should not be seen together in public, almost letting slip the fact that she is jealous but Sakito and Byundi suddenly collapse from hunger upon seeing her onigiri.

She takes the two to the garage, where they wolf down bowls of Bun Bun’s BoonBoom Curry. Sakito cannot believe how delicious it is and Byundi compliments Bun Bun on the complex flavor of the dish as “wonderfully chaotic”. Bun Bun is happy the two like his cooking as he prepares more curry, while Agent Saibu apologizes to Taiya for dragging the violet duo into the Garage. Taiya is fine with it, as they are members of the team after all, but Agent Saibu gets annoyed when Sakito calls her “Shirabe-Chan”.

Sakito says that since they betrayed the Hashiriyans, he and Byundi have been unable to find work as cleaners and are completely broke. Taiya says that they don’t have to worry about it now and can ask for help anytime, which Sakito gets agitated by because he thinks that Taiya is just being charitable to get information about their enemies. Shirabe is a little shocked but Ishiro says Taiya would never do something like that, but Sakito still doesn’t exactly like the leader of the Boonboomgers, saying he will not fall in line so easily like the others. Ishiro is ready to fight Sakito because of his arrogant attitude but Taiya stops him. However, Sakito will stay on because of Bun Bun’s curry, as he admits that he missed the taste of curry while out in space and had cravings for it for a while. So because they fed him, he coyly says that if he remembers something he will let them know. Ishiro says that today is Tanabata, which Byundi is interested in because of the “chaos” of the holiday, wishes, the tale of Orihime and Hikoboshi and the Milky Way.

Bun Bun hearing “Milky Way” says that just brings back bad memories, with Byundi asking why, which upsets Bun Bun because his former partner/rival doesn’t remember the incident at the Milky Way Circuit. Taiya has never heard about that incident from Bun Bun when Ishiro asks about it and Sakito is curious as well. Byundi suddenly remembered what happened and says that Bun Bun should not be bothered by something like that as it is in the past and should “be left in the rear view mirror”. Bun Bun says he cannot just forget about it and sulks. Sakito breaks the awkward silence by dropping his spoon and thanking Bun Bun for the curry again, telling Byundi that they should head back to their place and he has enough curry for both of them to enjoy later. Bun Bun is clearly angry about something and Taiya is concerned about it.

Elsewhere, Yaiyai is mocking Cannonborg with an impersonation, which Decotrade and Itasha applaud upon his performance concluding. Decotrade calls their captain “Four-Eyes” and a slave driver which the others agree on. The Trio suddenly hear a woman singing about payday as she merrily hops and skips down the stairs. They hide so she doesn’t see them and observe her from a distance, wondering what she is so happy about. They follow her to an ATM and Itasha prevents the woman from making a withdrawal to insert her Ignition Key into the card slot, transforming the ATM into the ATM Grumer.

Back at the garage, Bun Bun finally talks about what is bothering him: The Milky Way Circuit was a qualifier race for the BBG and he was in the lead at the time in the race with Byundi right behind him. The hardest part of the course, the Milky Way, was a split track that gave racers the choice of risking a crash with a jump ramp or taking a safer left turn. Bun Bun chickened out and took the safer route because he was afraid of going airborne, while Byundi, who was always fearless and confident, took the ramp and Bun Bun lost the race as Byundi zoomed past him. He isn’t mad at Byundi and doesn’t blame him, but is angry at his own cowardice even after all these years. This story is interrupted by Agent Saibu getting a call about the Hashiriyans attacking from the ISA.

ATM uses his Hashiriyan Bills to “check the balance of humans”, literally crushing victims under the weight of money. Sakito arrives and becomes Bun Violet to deal with the Nejiretta and Mira, Jyo and Genba help the civilians by removing the Hashiriyan Bills from their faces so they can move and escape from danger. Taiya and Ishiro meet up with the others and they all transform, doing a less than stellar roll call because Sakito interrupts and cuts in and their timing is off. The team argues about it, which leaves them open for ATM to use his Hashiriyan Bills, which hits Mira and she gets crushed by the weight of money.

Ishiro figures out that the attack affects people who have received money or have hidden amounts of cash, as Mira got her paycheck yesterday. Knowing this, Ishiro orders Taiya to fall back and “deliver himself to safety”, as the billionaire would very likely be crushed to death by the weight of his wealth if one of those bills attached to his face. Ishiro will take charge of the team and Sakito is willing to help given he owes them for the curry earlier. ATM tries to attack again but the Boonboomgers shoot him before he can fire more of his evil currency at them. Bun Bun and Agent Saibu are surprised to see Taiya back at the garage, who doesn’t feel great about leaving his team to fend for themselves and is forced to just wait around.

Back at the fight, ATM uses coin bombs to blind the Rangers long enough to fire his bogus bills at them. Ishiro orders the team to hide behind Jyo as a shield, with the attack not affecting him because Jyo is flat broke today after buying expensive exercise gear. Jyo is upset that Ishiro knows that but he replies that he is an information broker so it is part of his job to know everything about his team. Sakito is amused, saying he and Jyo are “brothers in being broke”, which Jyo says is only temporary until he gets paid again.

Sakito weakens ATM with his Gatling attack and the team finishes off the terrible automatic teller with the Bakuage Handling Drive, but not without a bit of bickering with Sakito who interrupts to try and steal the spotlight. Sakito eventually joins in and uses the ByunByun Arrow Drive, their combined effort defeating ATM.

Yaiyai enlarges ATM with the Highway Beam and the team rolls out with ByunByum Mach Robo and Boonboomger Robo without Taiya. Byundi gets the advantage with his speed and flying ability, but that is soon taken away as ATM fakes a money jam and waited for Byunbyum Mach to get close to hit him. Byundi is crushed, who confesses to Sakito that he had a hidden nest egg of cash saved up (presumably for retirement), with Sakito become outraged that now of all times he learns about this. ATM is too strong for Bun Bun to handle and Byundi is pinned down and struck by coin bombs, Bun Bun shields him from another bombardment and boosts to get him out of harm’s way by hiding behind some tall buildings.

The Rangers can’t get near ATM with his powers and ranged attacks, so Byundi suggests that Bun Bun take his wings and fly to attack ATM from the air. Bun Bun admits he is still scared to be off the ground, but Byundi encourages him by saying he isn’t alone this time, he has a great team of friends to rely on so he has nothing to be scared of. Taiya speaks to Bun Bun from the garage, saying there is nowhere that they can’t reach together and flying for the first time is the most cranked up thing ever to experience as everyone encourages Bun Bun not to give up. He finally summons the courage and asks Byundi to give him his Mach Wing, combining with it to take to the skies and calling himself Wing Boonboomger Robo.

Wing Boonboomger Robo's First Appearance

The first flight is a bit rough as Wing Boonboomger dodges thrown coin bombs while the Rangers deal with struggle of jet fighter like G-forces while flying. They use Burundi’s crossbow to shoot ATM in the head. Byundi admires Bun Bun, saying that is the racer he knew, someone who races on a course and then masters it by focusing to stay ahead of everyone else. Taiya is in awe at the new combination, one born from friendship, but then has an idea of how to destroy ATM. He changes into Bun Red and boards the cockpit, ordering Bun Bun to be right above ATM. The Grumer hits Bun Bun with his Hashiriyan Bills, only to realize too late that the attack sped up Bun Bun’s fall towards him and Taiya destroys the cash creep with the improvised “Flying Total Asset Slash”, with the weighed down blade ripping ATM in half and causing him to explode. Byundi is freed from the weight of money and the two aliens celebrate with a fist bump.

Later that evening, Bun Bun is feeling good after conquering his fear, eager to take on the Milky Way Circuit again when the time comes to qualify for the BBG. Mira comes with tanzaku so they can write down and hang their wishes on the bamboo tree in the garage. Ishiro doesn’t want to participate, but Mira will not accept that and tries to get him to come be part of the celebration. The episode ends with the viewers seeing all the wishes of the Rangers and their friends on the tree.
